Every family that rides the boat on the Canadian side has the same three questions afterwards: why did nobody mention the shoes, why did the line take longer than the boat, and how do we get back up the hill with a wet five-year-old. This post answers all three before you go. Niagara City Cruises is the official Niagara Parks boat tour, and its Voyage to the Falls carries you past the American and Bridal Veil Falls and into the mist of the Horseshoe Falls. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives guests to and from the dock every season, so what follows is the reservations-desk version: drop-off point, timing, ponchos and the dry-clothes plan.
Where does the Niagara City Cruises boat leave from?
Niagara City Cruises boards from its Ticket Plaza at 5920 Niagara Parkway, at the foot of Clifton Hill, about 2.5 km (1.5 mi) and 5–10 minutes by car from the Fallsview hotels. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drops you at the plaza and collects you at a set time; book the ride and see the fixed fare in the online booker.
Look for the large white sails beside the Zipline to the Falls tower. That is the Ticket Plaza. From there, elevators reached by an accessible ramp take you down to the Lower Landing, where the boats load. Niagara City Cruises has no parking lot of its own, which is the first reason a car with a driver is easier than a rental here. The operator's own directions page sends drivers to nearby paid lots such as the SkyWheel lot on Clifton Hill, the Falls lot at Table Rock and the Bird Kingdom lot on River Road. Locals and some hotel directions call this riverside stretch River Road; the official address is on the Niagara Parkway.
With a chauffeur, the car pulls in at the plaza, you step out with tickets on your phone, and you never circle a lot.
The drop-off and pickup, step by step
The short version of a cruise day by car looks like this:
- Hotel lobby or porte-cochère. From the Fallsview district the drive is about 2.5 km down the escarpment to the river. Allow 15 minutes on a summer weekend, when Clifton Hill and the Parkway fill with walkers and buses.
- Set-down at the Ticket Plaza. Your chauffeur stops as close to the sails as traffic allows and confirms the pickup time and the meeting spot before you walk away.
- Your cruise window. Allow about an hour from drop-off to coming back up the elevator in summer, less in spring and autumn. The boat itself is about 20 minutes.
- Pickup. Either the same point, at an agreed time, or a quick message when you are back at the top. On an hourly booking the car stays close; on a point-to-point booking you fix the return time in advance.
If you plan to carry on to the Niagara SkyWheel or dinner on Clifton Hill afterwards, you can skip the return car entirely. The foot of the hill is a short walk from the plaza.

How long the whole visit really takes
The boat is the short part. The variables are the line and the season.
Niagara City Cruises uses timed tickets: you pick a date and a time slot online and are asked to arrive just before or inside that window. The operator's FAQ is honest that from June to Labour Day, lineups at the Lower Landing can push your actual departure outside the slot you bought. Its own ticket page names 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. as the busy stretch of the day.
That gives you two simple strategies:
- Go early. The first sailings of the morning are calmer, the light on the Horseshoe Falls is softer, and you are back at the hotel before the midday rush on Clifton Hill.
- Go late in the afternoon. After 6 p.m. in high summer the queues ease, and you can roll straight into an evening on the hill.
Spring and autumn are quieter at any hour. The season runs April to November, and the operator lists December sailings as weather-permitting. The 2026 season opened on May 1 after a late spring on Lake Erie, which is a reminder that opening day depends on the ice. Check the booking calendar before you set a date.
Ponchos, shoes and what actually gets wet
Every passenger receives a complimentary recyclable mist poncho, and you will be glad of it. The poncho covers your head and torso. It does not cover your shoes, the lower half of your trousers, or anything you are holding in your hand.
Niagara City Cruises puts it plainly on its know-before-you-go page: this is an outdoor experience and you will get wet from the mist. It recommends waterproof or quick-drying shoes and a waterproof phone case. Here is the practical kit list we give guests:
- Shoes you do not mind soaking, or sandals with a heel strap.
- A zip bag or waterproof pouch for phones and passports.
- A light layer to put on afterwards, because the gorge is cooler than the hotel district.
The dry-clothes plan. This is where the car earns its keep. Leave a small bag in the vehicle with dry socks, a spare top for each child and a towel. If your chauffeur is waiting on an hourly booking, you swap shoes and tops in the back seat, and nobody walks up Clifton Hill squelching. On a point-to-point booking, tell the reservations desk you want the return pickup straight after the cruise, so the bag is in the car when you come up.
Bags, strollers, wheelchairs and security
The operator screens all guests and bags. Small backpacks up to 16 by 20 inches are allowed; large bags, luggage, coolers and oversized backpacks are not. That matters if you are going straight from the airport, so check suitcases at the hotel first, or keep them in the car with the chauffeur. Outside food and drink are not permitted.
Small and mid-size infant strollers are allowed and are parked in an unsupervised area before boarding. Every rider needs a ticket, infants included.
For wheelchair users, the accessibility page says the vessel's interior is designed for wheelchairs and strollers, and ramps and elevators serve guests with mobility challenges. Service animals are welcome. Our booker has a wheelchair option and the accessible transportation page explains how to request it.
The Fireworks Cruise after dark
There is also an evening sailing. The Falls Fireworks Cruise is about 40 minutes and runs on select evenings from spring through fall. You see the illuminated Falls from the water and the fireworks above the gorge. The mist is lighter than on a daytime cruise, and you still get a poncho. One rule to note: gates to the Lower Landing close 20 minutes before your time slot, so a late dinner reservation and a tight drop-off do not mix.
The Niagara Parks fireworks series in 2026 ran at 10 p.m. nightly from May 15 to October 12. A night cruise pairs well with an evening car, as covered in our Falls night tour page, and a pre-booked pickup at the plaza after the fireworks is far easier than finding a taxi on Clifton Hill at that hour.
Tickets, refunds and the cost of the boat
Tickets are sold online and at the Ticket Plaza. The Niagara Parks attraction listing shows, as of 2026, CA$47.95 for adults (13+) and CA$32.95 for children 3 to 12, plus 13% HST, with infants 2 and under free. The operator accepts US Visa and Mastercard online and US cash at the plaza.
Payments are generally non-refundable unless you add the operator's Ticket Assurance, and rescheduling needs 48 hours' notice. Our own cancellation terms are separate and counted from your scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%. If the weather turns, rebook the boat first, then move the car.

Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rideshare (Uber, Lyft) | 5–15 min from Fallsview, plus wait for a car | Surge pricing at busy times | Boot space varies | Two adults with no children or bags |
| Taxi | 5–15 min, plus wait at a rank or for dispatch | Metered | Standard boot | A quick one-way hop |
| WEGO bus | 15–30 min with stops and transfers | 24-hour adult pass CA$16 as of 2026 | Carry it yourself | Visitors staying all day on the Parkway |
| Walking from Fallsview | 25–35 min downhill, more back up | Free | None | Fit adults, dry weather |
| Driving yourself | 5–15 min, plus finding a paid lot | Paid parking and fuel | Your own car | Visitors already holding a rental |
| Private chauffeur | 5–15 min, door to plaza | Fixed fare via booker | Bags and dry clothes stay in the car | Families, car seats, evening cruises, combined days |
The honest verdict. If you are two adults staying near Clifton Hill on a dry afternoon, walk or take a rideshare; a pre-booked car adds little. The chauffeur wins when there are car seats to fit, a stroller to fold, grandparents who should not climb back up the escarpment, a Fireworks Cruise that ends after 10:30 p.m., or a full day where the boat is only the first stop. Our guide to chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare goes deeper.
Booking it with NiagaraFallsLimo.net in 3 steps
- Tell the booker where and when. Pickup at your hotel, drop-off at Niagara City Cruises, 5920 Niagara Parkway, and your preferred time. If you want the car to wait, choose "By the hour".
- Pick the vehicle. A Standard Sedan takes up to three passengers; a Standard SUV such as a Suburban or Yukon XL takes up to six. Each class shows its fixed fare before you pay.
- Add the details and pay. Passengers, child, toddler or booster seats, the wheelchair option if needed, and a note about the dry-clothes bag. Confirmation arrives by email.
The hourly chauffeur page explains the waiting option in more detail.
Who this plan suits
Individuals usually only need the car one way, often from the train or airport straight to the dock. Couples like the early-morning boat followed by breakfast and a slow ride up the Parkway. Families gain the most: car seats installed, the stroller in the back, the spare clothes waiting, and no uphill walk with tired children, which is why we point parents to our families page. Groups of seven to twelve fit an Executive Sprinter and can be dropped together, which keeps everyone in one ticket window.
If you are staying in the towers above the Falls, our Fallsview hotels guide lists where each one sets down guests. To weigh this boat against its US-side twin, read about combining Maid of the Mist and the Canadian boat in one day, and for a wider view of every option, the Niagara Falls boat tour guide compares docks and seasons. Arriving from Toronto Pearson the same day? Pearson to the Falls is about 120–130 km (75–81 mi), usually 1 h 20 – 1 h 40 off-peak, so an afternoon cruise is realistic.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the Niagara City Cruises boat ride?
The Voyage to the Falls cruise lasts about 20 minutes. Budget closer to an hour for the whole visit in summer, because security, the elevators and the queue at the Lower Landing take longer than the boat. The evening Fireworks Cruise is about 40 minutes, and its gates close 20 minutes before your slot.
Do you get wet on Niagara City Cruises?
Yes. The operator says plainly that you will get wet from the mist. A complimentary recyclable poncho covers your head and upper body, but shoes and the lower legs usually get damp. Wear quick-drying shoes, protect your phone in a waterproof pouch and keep dry socks in the car for afterwards.
Where can a car drop me for the Niagara City Cruises boat?
At the Ticket Plaza, 5920 Niagara Parkway, beside the white sails near the Zipline to the Falls tower at the foot of Clifton Hill. There is no dedicated cruise parking lot, which is why a drop-off is simpler than driving. Your NiagaraFallsLimo.net chauffeur confirms the pickup spot before you walk down.
Is Niagara City Cruises the same as Maid of the Mist?
No. Niagara City Cruises sails from the Canadian side and is the official Niagara Parks boat tour. Maid of the Mist sails from Prospect Point in Niagara Falls State Park on the US side. Both go to the base of the Horseshoe Falls, and you can ride both in a day with a border crossing in between.
Can I bring a stroller or a large bag on the boat?
Small and mid-size infant strollers are allowed and are parked in an unsupervised area before boarding. Small backpacks up to 16 by 20 inches are allowed, but large bags, luggage, coolers and oversized backpacks are not. If you are coming from the airport, leave suitcases with the hotel or in your chauffeur's vehicle.
What is the best time of day for the Niagara City Cruises boat?
Early morning is usually best: shorter lines and calm light on the Horseshoe Falls. From June to Labour Day the operator flags 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. as the busiest period, when queues can delay your boarding past your ticket window. Late afternoon after 6 p.m. is a good second choice in summer.
Can a chauffeur wait while we take the boat?
Yes. Choose "By the hour" in the booker and the chauffeur stays near the plaza while you cruise, holding bags and dry clothes in the car. On a one-way booking, set the return pickup time in advance instead. The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for either option before you pay.
