A Niagara Falls to Buffalo car service sounds like a short local ride: downtown Buffalo is about 37 km (23 mi) from the Fallsview hotels. The distance is the easy part. In between sits an international border with its own documents, lanes, tolls and inspections, and that is where most travellers want someone who does this every day. NiagaraFallsLimo.net treats cross-border trips as normal service. The chauffeur drives you over the bridge, through inspection and on to your door, and the same car brings you back if you book the return.
How do you get from Niagara Falls, Canada to Buffalo by car service?
NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives passengers from Niagara Falls, Ontario across the Peace, Rainbow or Lewiston-Queenston bridge to Buffalo, about 37 km (23 mi) and usually 35 – 45 minutes plus border inspection. Each passenger carries their own valid documents. Enter both addresses in the online booker to see the fixed fare before paying.
Buffalo Niagara International Airport is about 42 km (26 mi) from Fallsview, and Niagara Falls International Airport (IAG) about 14 km. For those, see the Buffalo Niagara airport page and the Niagara Falls International page.
Which bridge, and why it matters
Four bridges link the Niagara region with New York State. Three, the Rainbow, Whirlpool Rapids and Lewiston-Queenston, are run by the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission; the fourth, the Peace Bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo, by the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority. The bridge operators collect tolls; customs and immigration are handled separately by the CBSA in Canada and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the United States.
| Bridge | Connects | Who can use it | Hours (per CBP) | Typical use for us |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rainbow Bridge | Clifton Hill area to downtown Niagara Falls, NY | Cars, RVs, buses, limousines; no commercial trucks | 24 hours | Seneca Niagara, Niagara Falls State Park, NY-side hotels |
| Whirlpool Rapids Bridge | North end of Niagara Falls, ON to Niagara Falls, NY | Cars only, NEXUS members only | 7 am – 11 pm | Only if every occupant, driver included, holds NEXUS |
| Lewiston-Queenston Bridge | Queenston to Lewiston, NY | Cars, buses, limousines and trucks | 24 hours | Lewiston, Youngstown, I-190 toward Buffalo and the airports |
| Peace Bridge | Fort Erie to Buffalo | Cars, buses, trucks | 24 hours | Downtown Buffalo, KeyBank Center, Orchard Park, BUF |
The choice is made on the day, from live queues and road conditions, and it never changes the fare you were quoted. Bridge-by-bridge detail is on our pages for the Rainbow Bridge, Peace Bridge, Lewiston-Queenston Bridge and Whirlpool Rapids Bridge.
A word on NEXUS
NEXUS is the trusted-traveller programme shared by Canada and the United States. A vehicle may use a NEXUS lane, or the NEXUS-only Whirlpool Rapids Bridge, only when every person in it, including the driver, is a NEXUS member carrying their card. In a chauffeured car that rarely applies, so plan on the general lanes. The NEXUS and trusted travellers page explains the programme.
Tolls
Tolls on all four bridges are collected one way only, entering Canada. There is no bridge toll to enter the United States. The Peace Bridge has gone cashless, taking cards or E-ZPass only.
Documents every passenger needs
Every passenger, of every age, must carry their own documents. The chauffeur cannot vouch for anyone, and a missing passport ends the trip at the booth.

Entering the United States by land
According to CBP's land-travel document rules:
- US citizens may show a US passport, a passport card, an enhanced driver's licence or a trusted-traveller card (NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST).
- Canadian citizens may show a valid passport, an enhanced driver's licence or a NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST card.
- Children under 16 who are US or Canadian citizens need only a birth certificate (original, photocopy or certified copy) or other proof of citizenship; the age rises to under 19 for school or youth groups.
- US permanent residents show their permanent resident card.
- Visitors of other nationalities need a passport and the right US status. CBP's current I-94 page says Visa Waiver travellers need an approved ESTA before reaching a land border, and since September 30, 2025 the land-border I-94 fee is US$30. CBP encourages applying for the I-94 in advance through the CBP Link app.
See the full checklist on our documents for entering the USA page, and the international visitors guide if you are travelling on a non-North American passport.
Coming back into Canada
The CBSA's travel document guidance recommends that US citizens carry a valid passport, though other proof of identity and citizenship is accepted. US permanent residents arriving by land show their US permanent resident card. Other foreign nationals need a passport and, if their nationality requires it, a visa; in most cases an eTA is not needed when arriving by car. Details are on our documents for entering Canada page.
Travelling with children
Canada does not legally require a consent letter, but officers may ask for one, and Global Affairs Canada recommends it when a child travels with only one parent, with other adults or with a group. Bring the child's own identification and copies of any custody papers. Our crossing with children page has a sample checklist.
Things that cannot cross
Cannabis in any form cannot be taken across the border in either direction without specific authorisation, whatever the local law at your starting point. Shopping should be declared; personal exemptions do not apply to same-day trips back into Canada. Our duty-free and declarations page has the allowances.
What we will not promise
Nobody can promise how long a crossing will take. The border agencies post live estimates, the CBSA for Canada-bound traffic and CBP's Border Wait Times for US-bound traffic, and both are estimates that exclude delays on the roads leading to the bridge. The CBSA advises that early mornings are usually quietest and holiday long weekends busiest. We plan pickup times with slack and watch the queues, and our border wait times guide explains how to read them yourself.

Staying on the American side? The Niagara Falls, NY hotels guide lists properties near the park.
Longer trips work the same way: Rochester, Erie and even New York City, about 630 km away, are booked as a single city-to-city ride or via our Niagara Falls to New York City route.
Why airports and rideshares make this harder
Niagara Falls International Airport warns on its own ground-transportation page that rideshare services may not cross the border. Ride-hail drivers on either side are not obliged to take a cross-border trip, and some cannot. A taxi licensed in Buffalo may drop you in Canada but is not set up to work there. That gap is exactly why a pre-booked cross-border car exists: the vehicle and chauffeur are booked for the whole trip, both sides.
The vehicle choice
- Standard Sedan (Cadillac XTS or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large bags. The usual Buffalo airport run for one or two.
- Standard SUV or Executive Black SUV (Escalade / Navigator): up to 6 passengers, 6 bags. Families with luggage.
- Mercedes-Benz E / S-Class: two passengers and two bags, ideal for business travellers heading to downtown Buffalo meetings.
- Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz): 12 seats, carry-on luggage only. Teams and day-trip groups.
- Executive Jet Sprinter: up to 6 passengers, 2 bags, for small groups who want space.
Each class is "or similar", and the booking confirms the exact model. See the fleet.
Cross-border options compared
| Mode | Door-to-door, Fallsview to downtown Buffalo | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rideshare | 35 – 45 min plus border, if a driver accepts the trip | Surge pricing; cross-border trips not guaranteed | Depends on the car | Solo travellers already on the US side |
| Taxi | Similar, if licensed for the pickup side | Metered | Sedan or van | Short trips that start in Buffalo |
| Intercity bus | Timetabled, with stops and group inspection | Published per-seat fare | Under-floor bins | Budget solo travel |
| Amtrak Maple Leaf | Once-daily schedule each way | Published fare | Train allowance | Travellers already near a station |
| Driving yourself | 35 – 45 min plus border | Fuel; NFBC car toll into Canada US$6.00 / CA$8.50 as of 2026 | Your trunk | Locals with their own documents and car |
| Private chauffeur (NiagaraFallsLimo.net) | 35 – 45 min plus border, door to door | Fixed fare via booker, shown before payment | Matched to the class | Families, groups, airport runs, business trips, anyone wanting one car both ways |
Here is when the alternatives are honestly better. If you are a solo traveller with a backpack and time to spare, an intercity bus is the budget answer. If you are already in Buffalo and only going a few blocks, a taxi or rideshare is simpler. A pre-booked chauffeur is the stronger choice when there are several of you, when you have luggage or car seats, when a flight depends on the timing, when you want the same car to bring you back, and when you would rather not discover at the curb that a driver will not cross. Frequently asked questions
Can you take a car service from Niagara Falls, Canada to Buffalo?
Yes. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives from Niagara Falls, Ontario across the border to downtown Buffalo, about 37 km (23 mi) and usually 35 to 45 minutes plus inspection. The same chauffeur stays with the trip on both sides, and the fixed fare is shown in the booker before you pay.
Can you Uber from Niagara Falls, Canada to Buffalo?
Sometimes, but it is not guaranteed. Ride-hail drivers are not obliged to accept cross-border trips, and Niagara Falls International Airport warns that rideshare services may not cross the border. A pre-booked cross-border car removes that uncertainty.
Which bridge is best from Niagara Falls to Buffalo?
The Peace Bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo is the most direct for downtown Buffalo and Orchard Park, while the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge suits trips toward the airports via I-190. The Rainbow Bridge is closest for Niagara Falls, New York. The chauffeur picks on the day from live queues.
What documents do I need to cross from Canada to the US by car?
A Canadian can present a passport, an enhanced driver's licence or a NEXUS card, and an American can add the passport card to that list; a child under 16 with either citizenship needs only a birth certificate or other proof. Other nationalities need a passport and, for Visa Waiver travellers, an approved ESTA.
How long does it take to cross the border at Niagara?
No one can promise. The CBSA and CBP publish live estimates for each bridge, which change through the day; early mornings are usually quietest and holiday weekends busiest. We plan pickups with slack, but the time at inspection is set by the border agencies.
Is there a toll to cross from Canada to the US?
No. Tolls on the Rainbow, Whirlpool Rapids, Lewiston-Queenston and Peace bridges are collected only when entering Canada. As of 2026, the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission's passenger-car toll is US$6.00 or CA$8.50, and the Peace Bridge is cashless.
Can the driver use the NEXUS lane?
Only if every person in the vehicle, including the driver, is a NEXUS member carrying their card. With one non-member aboard, the vehicle must use the general lanes. The NEXUS-only Whirlpool Rapids Bridge follows the same rule.
How much is a car service from Niagara Falls to Buffalo Airport?
The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, the airport and the vehicle before you pay. There is no meter running during a border queue and no surge at busy times.
