Visiting Niagara Falls with kids is one of the great family trips in North America, and it is also one of the most spread out. The boat dock, the Butterfly Conservatory, the indoor waterparks and the American side are all some kilometres apart, and every stop has its own parking lot. At NiagaraFallsLimo.net we drive a lot of families, and the requests are always practical: the right seat for a two-year-old, room for a stroller and a cooler bag, and a driver who waits while the children ride the SkyWheel twice. This page, part of who we serve, explains how we set that up.

What is the easiest way to see Niagara Falls with kids?

The easiest way to see Niagara Falls with kids is in short hops of 3 to 10 km between Table Rock, the boat, Clifton Hill and the Butterfly Conservatory, with seats installed in one waiting car. NiagaraFallsLimo.net provides child, toddler and booster seats in an SUV for up to six with six bags; book online in three steps.

The detail matters more with children than with any other traveller, so the rest of this page is about seats, space, pacing and the border.

Car seats: what we provide and what Ontario requires

Child, toddler and booster seats are options in our booker; choose them when you book and they are installed before pickup. Ontario sets out the stages on its choosing a child car seat page:

  • Rear-facing seats for babies up to 9 kg.
  • Forward-facing seats from 9 to 18 kg.
  • Booster seats for children under 8 who weigh 18 to 36 kg and are under 145 cm.
  • A child may use the seat belt alone once they reach age 8, 36 kg or 145 cm.

Tell us each child's age and weight in the booking and we will match the seat. All passengers wear seat belts in our vehicles; Ontario requires it, and the driver must make sure passengers under 16 are buckled.

Count a folded stroller as a bag, and a travel cot as another. Because the Sprinter takes carry-on bags only, families arriving from the airport with suitcases usually book one or two SUVs for the transfer, then a Sprinter for a shared sightseeing day. See the full fleet.

A family day at the Falls, in short hops

Children do better with five stops of an hour than two of three hours. A day we drive often, starting at a Fallsview or Clifton Hill hotel:

  1. Journey Behind the Falls, about 3 km away at the Table Rock Welcome Centre. The tunnels are about 8 ft wide and 7 ft tall and open year-round; children love the portals at the foot of the Horseshoe Falls. Upstairs, Niagara Takes Flight needs riders at least 100 cm tall. See our Journey Behind the Falls page.
  2. Niagara City Cruises, April to November. Child tickets (3 to 12) are $32.95 CAD plus HST and infants 2 and under ride free (as of 2026), and the boats are wheelchair accessible. Our Niagara City Cruises page covers the pickup after you come off soaked.
  3. Lunch and Clifton Hill, about 2 km from Fallsview: the Niagara SkyWheel runs year-round in climate-controlled gondolas. Read our Clifton Hill page.
  4. Butterfly Conservatory, about 10 km north on the Parkway, with more than 3,000 butterflies and open all year. The Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory page has the hours.
  5. Back to the hotel for a rest, then the illuminated Falls after dinner.

On a "By the hour" booking the car waits at each stop, so naps can happen between them and nobody carries a sleeping child across a parking lot.

Rainy days and winter: indoor options for kids

  • Indoor waterparks: Great Wolf Lodge at 3950 Victoria Avenue, about 5 km from Fallsview, and the 3-acre indoor waterpark at the Falls Avenue Resort, connected to its hotels and Clifton Hill. Our Great Wolf Lodge page explains arrivals there.
  • Bird Kingdom, which bills itself as the world's largest free-flying indoor aviary, open all year.
  • Niagara Parks Power Station and its tunnel, which is fully accessible by glass elevator.
  • Winter Festival of Lights, November 14, 2026 to January 10, 2027, best seen from a warm car; fireworks at 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays from November 14, then nightly from December 18 to January 2.

For more on the cold months, read visiting Niagara Falls in winter.

Height limits and age rules worth knowing before you go

Few things upset a child like being turned away at the gate, so check these before you promise:

  • Niagara Takes Flight: riders at least 100 cm (3 ft 3 in) tall.
  • Whirlpool Jet Boat: 44 in minimum for the Wet Jet and 40 in for the Dry Freedom Jet; Wet Freedom Jet riders must be 13 or older.
  • WildPlay Zipline to the Falls: riders must be over age seven.
  • Maid of the Mist (New York): child tickets for ages 6 to 12 are $19.75 USD, and children 5 and under ride free with a paid adult (as of 2026); the 2026 season ends November 8.

Hours and rules change, so confirm on each operator's page the week you go.

Crossing the border with children

The New York side has the Aquarium of Niagara, Cave of the Winds and Maid of the Mist, and the chauffeur crosses with you. Every passenger, including every child, must carry their own documents:

  • US and Canadian citizen children under 16 entering the US by land need only a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship, according to CBP's travel document page. Visitors of other nationalities need their own passports.
  • If a child is travelling without both parents, carry a consent letter signed by the parent who is not there. Global Affairs Canada recommends one for any child under 19 not travelling with both parents; see its consent letter guidance.
  • Carry copies of any custody documents.

A car can use a NEXUS lane only if every occupant, including every child, is a NEXUS member. Our crossing with children guide has the full list. We never promise how long a crossing takes, which with children is a good reason to cross early in the day.

Getting to Niagara with the family

Most families fly into Toronto Pearson, about 121 km (75 mi) from the Falls, usually 1 h 30 to 1 h 50 off-peak and 2 h or more on a summer Friday. A pre-booked car means seats are fitted before you land and the stroller goes in the back at the curb. See our Toronto Pearson to Niagara Falls transfer. From Buffalo Niagara International it is about 42 km (26 mi) plus the bridge; see Buffalo airport transfers. Note that VIA Rail does not allow unaccompanied minors to or from the Niagara Falls station.

If your children are past booster age, you are staying on the Fallsview ridge and you only want Table Rock and Clifton Hill, walk or take WEGO; a car adds little. A taxi is fine for one short ride with older kids. Book a chauffeur when you need car seats, when you have airport luggage and a stroller, when the day spreads along the Parkway, or when you are crossing the border and want one vehicle the whole way. Our chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare guide goes further.

Check your family fare

Travelling with grandparents or more than one family

Multi-generation trips are common in Niagara. If a grandparent uses a wheelchair, choose the wheelchair option in the booker and read our accessible transportation page; trained service animals are welcome. For two or three families together, see our page on group trips to Niagara Falls, and for a romantic night out while the grandparents babysit, our couples page.

How to book this in 3 steps

  1. Enter pickup and drop-off. Hotel, terminal or address, date and time, and your flight number.
  2. Choose the vehicle. Each class shows its fixed all-in fare; most families choose a Standard SUV.
  3. Add the family details and pay. Number of passengers, bags including strollers, each child seat you need, meet and greet if you want it, then pay securely and get your confirmation by email.

Frequently asked questions

What is there to do in Niagara Falls with kids?

The boat into the mist (April to November), Journey Behind the Falls, Clifton Hill and the SkyWheel, the Butterfly Conservatory, Bird Kingdom and the indoor waterparks at Great Wolf Lodge and the Falls Avenue Resort. On the New York side, the Aquarium of Niagara and Cave of the Winds are favourites.

Do you provide car seats?

Yes. Child, toddler and booster seats are options in the booker. Tell us each child's age and weight when you book and we install the right seat before pickup. Ontario sets the stages: rear-facing up to 9 kg, forward-facing 9 to 18 kg, and boosters until age 8, 36 kg or 145 cm.

What vehicle is best for a family of five with luggage?

A Standard SUV or Executive Black SUV takes up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, which fits two adults, three children, their seats and a folded stroller. The Executive Sprinter seats more but takes carry-on bags only, so it suits sightseeing days rather than airport runs with suitcases.

What documents do kids need to cross into the US at Niagara Falls?

US and Canadian citizen children under 16 entering the US by land need a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship. Children of other nationalities need their own passport. If both parents are not travelling, carry a signed consent letter from the absent parent and any custody papers.

Is Niagara Falls good for toddlers?

Yes, with short stops. The tunnels at Journey Behind the Falls, the Butterfly Conservatory and the SkyWheel all suit small children, and infants 2 and under ride the Canadian boat free (as of 2026). Keep each stop to an hour and let the car carry the stroller, diapers and spare clothes between them.

Can we bring a stroller in the car?

Yes. Count it as a bag when you book. In a Standard SUV there is room for a folded stroller alongside suitcases. If you are bringing a large travel system, mention it in the booking notes so we can confirm space.

How far is Great Wolf Lodge from the Falls?

Great Wolf Lodge is at 3950 Victoria Avenue, about 5 km from the Fallsview hotel district, usually around 8 to 10 minutes by car. It is a good half-day or rainy-day stop between attractions on the Parkway.

Where is the best place to watch the fireworks with children?

Queen Victoria Park is the main viewing area for the Falls fireworks. In 2026 they ran at 10 pm from May 15 to October 12, which is late for small children; during the Winter Festival of Lights, fireworks start at 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays from November 14, then nightly from December 18 to January 2.
