At the corner of King Street and Picton Street, a few steps from the clock tower on Queen Street, the Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake has been taking in travellers since 1864. Most of them now arrive by air through Toronto or Buffalo, and many spend their days among the vineyards. NiagaraFallsLimo.net handles those journeys: the airport legs, the border, wine country and the occasional dinner too far to walk to. This guide covers what our reservations desk knows about pickups at the hotel.
What is the best way to reach the Prince of Wales Hotel from the airport?
The Prince of Wales Hotel is at 6 Picton Street in Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives guests there door to door from Toronto Pearson (about 124 km, usually 1 h 35 – 1 h 50 off-peak) and Buffalo Niagara (about 65 km plus the border). The online booker shows a fixed fare before you pay.
No passenger train calls in Niagara-on-the-Lake itself, so a car of some kind finishes almost every arrival. A pre-booked chauffeur simply makes it the whole journey. Every hotel and inn we cover in town is on our Niagara-on-the-Lake hotels guide, and the hotel transportation hub lists the rest of the region.
The 1864 hotel at King and Picton
Vintage Hotels' Prince of Wales page describes the hotel as one of the oldest continuously operating hotels in the Niagara region. What guests find there today:
- 110 rooms and suites spread across five buildings, from Traditional rooms to The Royal Suite.
- Noble Restaurant, the fine-dining room, with a wine cellar of more than 400 vintages.
- The Drawing Room, serving traditional afternoon tea every day, and the library-style Churchill Lounge.
- Secret Garden Spa, with a heated indoor saltwater pool, whirlpool and sauna.
- Seven meeting and event spaces for smaller weddings and corporate gatherings.
The hotel is a sister property to Queen's Landing and Pillar and Post, which matters for wedding weekends when guests are spread across all three.
Curbside on Picton Street: how pickups work
The hotel's address is 6 Picton Street, at the corner of King Street. Guest parking is behind the building with access from King Street, free for hotel and spa guests. Our chauffeur meets you at the main entrance unless you ask for the King Street side, and sends a message naming the exact spot once the car is in place.

Three local details shape the timing:
- Old Town is a walking district. On summer weekends and before Shaw Festival curtains, Queen Street and the streets around it fill with pedestrians and slow-moving cars. Build a few spare minutes into any pickup in the hour before a matinee or evening curtain.
- Bags first. If you are departing with luggage, ask the front desk to bring it to the entrance before you request the car, so the vehicle stops briefly rather than holding a narrow kerb.
- Afternoon tea and dinner reservations at the hotel run to the clock. If your arrival is tight against a booking in The Drawing Room or Noble, tell us; we will advise how early to leave the airport.

Theatre steps away, vineyards a few minutes beyond
The hotel says both the Festival Theatre (10 Queen's Parade) and the Court House Theatre (26 Queen Street) are under a five-minute walk. For theatre-goers staying here, the car is not part of the evening; you walk.
The 2026 season runs to 23 December, according to the Shaw Festival's 2026 season announcement: A Year with Frog and Toad plays the Court House Theatre and Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella the Festival Theatre, both through 23 December. Guests coming in only for a show, from Toronto, Niagara Falls or St. Catharines, are the ones who need a chauffeur. Our Shaw Festival transportation page is written for them.
Old Town history within a short drive
Niagara-on-the-Lake was shaped by the War of 1812, and several of its sites are close to the hotel:
- Fort George National Historic Site is about a kilometre away. Parks Canada describes it as the War of 1812 post that defended Upper Canada, with costumed musket and music demonstrations in season.
- Queenston Heights and Brock's Monument are about 20 minutes south along the Niagara Parkway. The monument stands 56 m tall, with 235 steps to the top; hours have shifted in 2026 while Parks Canada works there.
- The Floral Clock, 40 feet across and planted with up to 16,000 plants, sits on the Parkway between Queenston and the Falls.
- The Laura Secord Homestead in Queenston is seasonal, May to October.
A half-day "By the hour" booking strings these together with a drive along the Niagara River, and continues to the Falls if you wish; see our Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake route page.
Wine tasting with nobody behind the wheel
Peller Estates is about 2.4 km from the hotel and Trius about 3 km; Inniskillin, on the Niagara Parkway, is under 10 minutes away. A morning and afternoon of tastings between them is the most common booking we take from this address.
Two rules shape every wine day. First, tastings are booked by you, directly with each winery, so the route can be built around confirmed times. Second, there is no drinking in our vehicles: Niagara Region's vehicle-for-hire by-law forbids drivers to permit alcohol consumption, and Ontario law has no limousine exception. Purchases ride sealed in the trunk. Our Niagara-on-the-Lake wine tour service explains how a day is put together.
A winter stay: icewine and the lights
Old Town is quieter after the summer plays close, and many regular guests prefer it. Two seasonal reasons to book a car in winter:
- Icewine. The Niagara Icewine Festival's Icewine Village sets up on Queen Street over two January weekends, with fire pits and ice carving, steps from the hotel. The festival had not published its 2027 dates when we checked; its Icewine Village page will show them. Wineries pour icewine year-round; our Niagara icewine guide explains the rules behind it.
- The Winter Festival of Lights runs from 14 November 2026 to 10 January 2027 in Niagara Falls, about 26 km away, with displays lit nightly from 5 p.m. to midnight and fireworks at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from November 14, then nightly from December 18 to January 2. An evening drive there and back is an easy "By the hour" booking; see our Winter Festival of Lights page.
Arriving from New York State
American guests usually cross at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, about 20 km and 25 minutes from the hotel. CBSA recommends that US citizens of any age travel with a valid passport, and permanent residents should carry their green card; the full list is on CBSA's documents page and our page on documents for entering Canada. The chauffeur crosses with you; we never quote a crossing time. Lanes and NEXUS hours are on our Lewiston-Queenston Bridge guide.

When you do not need us
For the theatre, for Queen Street's shops and restaurants, and for Fort George, walk. For a sober afternoon of sightseeing, Niagara Parks' WEGO passes include a Niagara-on-the-Lake shuttle with transfers at the Floral Clock. For a single short hop in town, a local taxi is fine. Our chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare guide is candid about these trade-offs.
Book a chauffeur for the airport, the border, tasting days and any evening that ends far from Old Town.

Frequently asked questions
How far is the Prince of Wales Hotel from Toronto Pearson?
About 124 km (77 mi), usually 1 h 35 – 1 h 50 off-peak by the QEW. Summer Friday afternoons and long-weekend Sundays can add half an hour or more. We track the flight and adjust the pickup if it lands early or late.
How far is the Prince of Wales Hotel from Niagara Falls?
The Horseshoe Falls at Table Rock is about 26 km away, roughly 30–35 minutes by car. Clifton Hill is about 22 km. Many guests make the Falls a half-day outing with a chauffeur, returning to Old Town for dinner.
Is the Prince of Wales Hotel close to the Shaw Festival theatres?
Yes. The hotel says the Festival Theatre on Queen's Parade and the Court House Theatre on Queen Street are each under a five-minute walk. Guests staying here rarely need a car for the theatre; visitors staying in Niagara Falls or Toronto often book one to and from the show.
Where does the chauffeur pick up at the Prince of Wales Hotel?
At the main entrance at 6 Picton Street, on the corner of King Street, unless you ask for the King Street side where the guest parking is. The chauffeur messages when the car is in place and names the exact spot.
Can you take us to wineries and back from the Prince of Wales?
Yes. Peller Estates and Trius are within about three kilometres and Inniskillin under 10 minutes away. Reserve tastings with the wineries, then book by the hour so one car and chauffeur stay with you. There is no drinking in our vehicles.
Do American guests need a passport to reach the Prince of Wales from Buffalo?
CBSA recommends that US citizens of any age carry a valid passport when entering Canada. Other accepted proof of citizenship exists, such as an enhanced driver's licence, but a passport is simplest, and you will need the right document to re-enter the US. Every passenger carries their own.
What does a car from the Prince of Wales Hotel cost?
The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay. It depends on distance, vehicle class and extras such as meet and greet. No meter, no surge.
