The Shaw Festival is the reason Niagara-on-the-Lake fills with theatregoers from spring to December, and the cultural anchor of Niagara wine country. Its stages sit in the heart of the Old Town, so a show night usually means dinner on Queen Street, a winery stop in the afternoon, or both. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives Shaw Festival audiences from Niagara Falls hotels, Toronto and the airports, waits through the performance on an hourly booking, and brings everyone home without a hunt for a parking meter in the dark.
How do you get to the Shaw Festival without parking or driving?
Book a chauffeur. NiagaraFallsLimo.net picks you up at your hotel, about 24 km (15 mi) and 25–35 minutes from Fallsview or roughly 120–130 km from Toronto, drops you at the Shaw Festival Theatre or Court House Theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and collects you after the curtain. The booker shows your fixed fare before payment.
Below: where each theatre is, what's on now and next season, how to time dinner, and how to plan the pickup when 800-odd people leave the same building at once.
The three Shaw Festival stages and where they are
According to the Shaw Festival's visitor pages, the company currently plays three theatres:
- Festival Theatre, on Queen's Parade, the main house with 856 seats. Queen's Parade is the extension of Queen Street heading towards Fort George.
- Jackie Maxwell Studio Theatre, 267 seats, in the same complex as the Festival Theatre. The Shaw tells patrons to use the Production Centre entrance, the furthest set of doors next to the driveway.
- Court House Theatre, in the historic court house on Queen Street. The Shaw's own advice is to set your GPS to the Memorial Clock Tower at 26 Queen St, which puts you in front of the theatre. This is where the festival began in 1962, and it returned as a Shaw venue in 2026 after being rebuilt.
The Royal George Theatre on Queen Street is closed for rebuilding; the Shaw says it plans to reopen it in fall 2028. The Festival Theatre and the Court House are under ten minutes' walk apart, so if your tickets change venues on different nights, the drop-off point changes too. Tell us the theatre when you book.
What's on: the end of 2026 and the 2027 season
The 2026 season, the festival's 64th, runs to 23 December 2026. The summer plays have closed, and the holiday shows take over: Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella at the Festival Theatre (previews from 8 November) and A Year with Frog and Toad at the Court House Theatre (previews from 5 November), both through 23 December.

The Shaw announced its 65th season on 25 August 2026. According to the 2027 season release, it runs from 31 March to 23 December 2027 and, for the first time, puts two musicals on the Festival Theatre stage in the main season:
- South Pacific, Festival Theatre, previews from 10 April, closes 30 October
- The Color Purple, Festival Theatre, previews from 26 June, closes 31 October
- Arsenic and Old Lace, previews from 9 May, closes 9 October
- Deathtrap, Court House Theatre, previews from 31 March, closes 8 October
- Arms and the Man, Court House Theatre, the first Bernard Shaw play there since 2017
- What Every Woman Knows, Jackie Maxwell Studio Theatre, previews from 20 May, closes 10 October
Tom Stoppard's Jumpers is also on the bill. Tickets go on sale to Friends of The Shaw from 7 November 2026 and to the public from 8 December 2026. Dates are subject to change, so confirm on shawfest.com before you lock in hotels and cars.
Drive times to Niagara-on-the-Lake for a show
| From | Distance | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|
| Fallsview hotels, Niagara Falls | about 24 km (15 mi) | 25–35 min; the Niagara Parkway route is slower but scenic |
| Clifton Hill / Falls Avenue hotels | about 23 km (14 mi) | 25–35 min |
| Downtown Toronto | about 127 km (79 mi) | 1 h 20 – 1 h 45 off-peak; the Shaw itself advises allowing at least 2 h |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | about 120 km (75 mi) | 1 h 20 – 1 h 45 off-peak |
| Hamilton (YHM) | about 89 km (55 mi) | 1 h 15 – 1 h 30 |
| Buffalo Niagara (BUF) via Lewiston-Queenston | about 57 km (35 mi) | about 1 h plus the border |
The Shaw's getting-here page is blunt about the Toronto drive: allow at least two hours, because QEW traffic and border lineups cause delays. We agree, and we plan Toronto pickups for summer evening performances with extra margin. Route details are on our Toronto to Niagara-on-the-Lake page and the shorter Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake route.
Parking, and why many audiences skip it
The festival lists paid parking at the Festival Theatre (CA$25 per performance as of 2026, with electronic payment encouraged), metered street parking in the Heritage District, and additional paid parking at Fort George, the War of 1812 site just along Queen's Parade. The Shaw also notes that Heritage District meters no longer take credit cards; you pay by coin, the Honk Mobile app or a QR code. On summer weekends spaces fill early.
With a chauffeur, none of that applies. You step out at the door, and the car moves off to wait nearby.
Planning the evening: winery, dinner, curtain
The classic Shaw day has three parts:
- Afternoon tastings. Two wineries on John Street East or Niagara Stone Road, each a few minutes from the theatres. Our Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries guide lists them.
- Early dinner in Old Town. Treadwell on Queen Street and 11th Post on Queen are within walking distance of the Court House; more choices are in our Niagara-on-the-Lake restaurants guide. Book a table that finishes at least 30 minutes before curtain.
- The play. Check your ticket for the exact start time, since evening and matinee times differ by production.
Matinee guests often flip it: a show at midday, then wineries and dinner afterwards. For a sample schedule, see the one-day wine tour itinerary.
There is no drinking in our vehicles. If dinner includes wine, enjoy it at the restaurant; Niagara Region's vehicle-for-hire by-law forbids the driver from permitting alcohol consumption in the car, and the chauffeur never drinks.
The pickup after the show
The awkward moment of any theatre night is the end. Hundreds of people leave together, taxis are scarce and rideshare prices rise. Here is how we handle it:
- You tell us the expected end time (the box office can give a running time), and we set the hourly booking to cover it.
- The chauffeur waits nearby, then moves to an agreed spot close to your theatre as the audience comes out. For the Festival Theatre complex that is usually on Queen's Parade; for the Court House, near the clock tower.
- You can message the chauffeur if you linger for a drink in the lobby or a stage-door chat.
For hotel guests in Old Town, the ride home is two minutes. For Fallsview hotels, it is the Niagara Parkway or the highway, about half an hour.

Staying in Niagara-on-the-Lake for the Shaw
Many visitors stay in Old Town for festival weekends. Vintage Hotels runs three hotels here: Queen's Landing, 155 Byron St, a short walk from the Festival Theatre; the Prince of Wales Hotel at 6 Picton St; and the Pillar and Post at 48 John St W. The Oban Inn on Front Street and The Shaw Club on Queen Street are also close. Our Niagara-on-the-Lake inns guide covers arrival and pickup at each. We have no partnership with any of these hotels; we simply know their front doors.
Arriving from the airport or across the border
Flying in for a Shaw weekend? A transfer from Toronto Pearson can deliver you to your inn with time to rest before an evening show; add a meet and greet in the booker if you want a name board in arrivals. From the United States, Buffalo Niagara airport is closer, and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge lands at Queenston, about 13 km from Old Town. Every passenger carries their own valid documents; we never promise how long the crossing will take.
Ways to get to a Shaw performance compared
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shaw Express coach from Toronto or Burlington | Fixed departure and return times | Ticket price set by the Shaw | Small bags | Solo theatregoers from the GTA |
| Driving yourself | Direct, plus parking time | Fuel plus CA$25 Festival Theatre parking (as of 2026) | Full trunk | Locals who are not drinking at dinner |
| Local taxi | Quick in town; scarce at curtain-down | Metered | Car trunk | Short Old Town hops |
| Rideshare app | Fine before the show; queues after | Surge pricing at curtain-down | Car trunk | Two people staying in town |
| Private chauffeur, NiagaraFallsLimo.net | Door to door, car waiting after | Fixed fare via booker | Full luggage on arrival days | Couples, groups, airport-to-theatre days |
Our honest view: if you live in Toronto, travel alone and don't mind a fixed schedule, the Shaw Express is a sensible choice. If you are staying on Queen Street, you may not need a car at all. The chauffeur wins for Niagara Falls hotel guests, couples combining wineries and dinner, groups who want one vehicle, travellers coming straight from a flight, and anyone who needs reliable door-to-door help; our accessible transportation page explains the booker's wheelchair option.
Who a Shaw night by chauffeur suits
Individuals often book a sedan for a matinee and a solo dinner; see our solo travel page. Couples treat it as the anniversary evening of the trip, sometimes in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or, availability confirmed at booking, a Rolls-Royce. Families with teenagers like the holiday musicals and add booster seats for younger children in the booker. Groups of theatre friends or a company outing share an Executive Sprinter; for hosted client evenings, our private chauffeur service covers discretion and NDAs on request.
How to book this in 3 steps
- Pickup, theatre and time. Enter your hotel or terminal, the date and pickup time, and choose "By the hour" so the car waits through the show (add a flight number for airport pickups).
- Vehicle. Each class shows its fixed fare; sedans for two, SUVs for six, a Sprinter for twelve.
- Extras and payment. Add passengers, bags, child seats or a meet and greet, pay securely and keep the confirmation email. Send us the theatre and expected end time.
More on changes and confirmations is in the how to book a limo guide, and the hourly mode is explained on hourly chauffeur bookings.
