For people who live in Halton Region, Niagara is close enough for a dinner and far enough to feel like a trip. The drive from Oakville to Niagara Falls is a little under 100 km, Burlington is closer still, and nearly all of it is one road: the Queen Elizabeth Way. NiagaraFallsLimo.net collects from homes, hotels, offices and GO stations in Oakville and Burlington and drives you to the Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Twenty Valley wineries or across the border, with one fixed fare shown before you pay.
Halton is one of the Greater Toronto origins on our routes to Niagara list. Because the distance is modest, it is fair to ask whether a chauffeur is worth it. Sometimes it is not, and we say so below. Often it is, especially when the evening involves wine, a show, a border bridge or a group.
How far is Oakville from Niagara Falls, and how long is the drive?
Downtown Oakville to the Horseshoe Falls is about 98 km (61 mi), usually 1 h 15 – 1 h 30 off-peak via the QEW; Burlington is about 77 km (48 mi), usually about 1 h. Allow longer on weekday afternoons. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives it door to door; the online booker shows your fixed fare before you book.
The figures above are road-routing distances with no traffic: about 98 km from downtown Oakville, 97 km from Oakville GO, 78 km from Burlington GO and 76 km from downtown Burlington. To Niagara-on-the-Lake it is about 94 km from downtown Oakville and 74 km from Burlington GO. Bronte, Glen Abbey, Palermo and north Oakville add a few minutes to reach the QEW.
The road: QEW, the 403 overlap and the Burlington Skyway
From Oakville the route is simple. You join the QEW, which shares its lanes with Highway 403 through west Oakville and Burlington, then cross the Burlington Bay James N. Allan Skyway, which everyone calls the Burlington Skyway. On the far side the QEW runs along the Hamilton beach strip (see Hamilton to Niagara Falls), past Stoney Creek and Grimsby, through the Niagara fruit belt below the escarpment, over the Garden City Skyway in St. Catharines and into Niagara Falls.
Two things to know:
- The 403 overlap concentrates traffic. Two highways feeding one set of lanes through Oakville and Burlington is where afternoon slowdowns start.
- The Skyway is exposed. It is a high, long bridge over the mouth of Hamilton Harbour, and wind and winter weather affect it more than inland roads.
Live conditions are on Ontario's 511 traffic map. Your chauffeur checks it before leaving, not after you are stuck.
Oakville to Niagara Falls: departure timing
Halton traffic leans towards Toronto in the morning and away from it in the afternoon, which means Niagara-bound trips meet the heaviest flow after about 3 p.m. on weekdays.

| Leaving | What to expect | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday morning | Westbound QEW usually moving; eastbound towards Toronto heavy | Close to off-peak times |
| Weekday midday | Usually the smoothest window | Oakville 1 h 15 – 1 h 30; Burlington about 1 h |
| Weekday 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. | Through Oakville and the Burlington merge, slow to stop-and-go | Add 30 – 45 minutes |
| Summer Friday afternoon | Weekend traffic from all of the GTA funnels onto the QEW | Leave by early afternoon, allow up to double |
| Sunday evening | Light going to Niagara, heavy coming back | Plan the return with slack |
These are planning margins, not promises. If you are booked for a ceremony, a dinner seating or a show, we would rather you arrive early and walk.
Pickup points around Oakville and Burlington
Downtown Oakville and the lakeshore
Lakeshore Road's shops and restaurants make downtown Oakville a common evening pickup. Name the corner or the restaurant, and the car will be at the curb. Homes south of the QEW are minutes from the on-ramp; east of Winston Churchill Boulevard, the Mississauga route applies.
Bronte, Glen Abbey and west Oakville
Bronte Village and the Bronte harbour area are the closest Oakville pickups to the Burlington end. Glen Abbey and West Oak Trails are residential and simple: driveway or curb.
North Oakville and Palermo
Newer neighbourhoods north of Dundas Street are a little further from the QEW. The chauffeur may use the 407 ETR across to the QEW and 403 if that is quicker on the day; the 407 ETR bills the vehicle by plate or transponder, so nothing arrives in your mailbox afterwards.
Burlington: downtown, Aldershot and the north end
Downtown Burlington by the lake, Aldershot near the harbour and the north-end subdivisions are all short hops to the QEW. From Burlington GO the drive is about 78 km.
GO stations and hotels
Oakville, Bronte, Appleby, Burlington and Aldershot are all Lakeshore West GO stations. Hotels along the QEW service roads in both towns are straightforward lobby pickups. If you arrive by train from Toronto and want to carry on by car, enter the train number so the pickup follows the train.
Flying in or out of Halton
Halton sits between two airports. John C. Munro Hamilton International is the closer one for Burlington, and Toronto Pearson is the usual choice for Oakville. If you are flying in and heading straight to Niagara, book the airport leg directly: Hamilton airport to Niagara Falls is about 90 km, and Toronto Pearson to Niagara Falls about 122–128 km. If you are flying out after a Niagara weekend, the same booking can drop you at home in Oakville first and the airport the next morning, or go straight from your Niagara hotel to the terminal. Flight tracking applies to every airport pickup, so a delayed landing moves the pickup rather than cancelling it.

Is a chauffeur worth it for under 100 km?
Honestly: if you are one or two people, sober, with a car of your own and a hotel that has parking you are happy to pay for, driving yourself an hour down the QEW is reasonable. If you live beside Oakville or Burlington GO and your train runs through to Niagara, the train is a fine choice too.
A chauffeur earns its place when:
- Wine is on the plan. Tastings in the Twenty Valley or Niagara-on-the-Lake and a drive home do not mix. The chauffeur never drinks, so nobody in your party has to.
- The evening runs late. A show at the Fallsview Casino or a long dinner ends after the trains you would want.
- You are a group. One Executive Sprinter for up to 12 replaces three cars, three designated drivers and three parking bills.
- You are crossing the border. The chauffeur crosses with you and waits on the other side.
- It is a special occasion. Proms, weddings, anniversaries and milestone birthdays.

Crossing to Buffalo or Niagara Falls, New York
From Oakville and Burlington, the most direct route to Buffalo is the QEW to Fort Erie and the Peace Bridge; for Niagara Falls, New York, it is usually the Rainbow or Lewiston–Queenston Bridge. Cross-border trips are normal service, but every passenger must carry their own valid documents. The Peace Bridge Authority posts bridge information, and our Peace Bridge guide and cross-border car service page explain how a crossing with a chauffeur works. We do not promise crossing times.
