Chauffeurs have favourite pickups, and Oakville is near the top of the list for the Niagara run. You are already west of Mississauga's interchanges, the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) is a few minutes from almost any front door, and the drive from Oakville to Niagara Falls is short enough to make dinner at the Falls an ordinary Tuesday plan rather than an expedition. NiagaraFallsLimo.net books this route mostly for couples, and the advice is the same every time: start on the lakeshore, cross the Skyway at the right hour, and let the evening run at its own pace.
Why is Oakville the easiest place in the GTA to start a Niagara trip?
Oakville is already west of the GTA's busiest interchanges and on the QEW. Downtown Oakville to Niagara Falls, Ontario is about 95 km (59 mi), usually 1 h 05 – 1 h 20 off-peak; Bronte is closer, about 89 km. NiagaraFallsLimo.net picks you up at home and quotes a fixed fare in its online booker.
From central Toronto the same trip is around 130 km, and the first half hour is spent clearing the Gardiner and the Mississauga stretch of the QEW. From Oakville you skip all of that. Road-routing data shows the trip as almost entirely QEW: about 70 km on the main highway, with a section where Highway 403 shares the road between Oakville and Burlington.
Lakeshore pickups: where the car meets you
Oakville's streets are calm, which is part of the appeal. Still, a few details help.
- Downtown Oakville and Lakeshore Road East: on a summer evening, Lakeshore Road around Navy Street is busy with diners. Your chauffeur will prefer a pickup on a side street or at your door rather than double-parking on the main road. Put the cross street in the notes.
- Old Oakville and the lakefront homes: quiet curbside pickups, a minute or two from Trafalgar Road and the QEW.
- Bronte village and the harbour: the closest Oakville start to Niagara, with quick access to the QEW at Bronte Road.
- Glen Abbey, River Oaks and north Oakville: straight down Dorval, Trafalgar or Third Line to the QEW, or onto the 403.
- Oakville GO or Bronte GO: if one of you is coming in from Toronto by train, the car can collect you both at the station's pickup area.
If you are booking a surprise, say so in the notes. The chauffeur will message the person organising it rather than the guest of honour, wait out of sight if needed, and keep the destination to themselves until you are both in the car. It is a small detail, and it is the one couples mention most afterwards.
Timing the Burlington Skyway
The single bottleneck on this route is the Burlington Bay James N. Allan Skyway, the high bridge that carries the QEW over the entrance to Hamilton Harbour. Everything funnels onto it, and when it slows the whole trip slows.
What we tell couples planning an evening:
- Avoid the weekday afternoon peak. Metrolinx timetables treat 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. as rush hour on weekdays, and the Skyway follows suit in the Niagara direction. Leave by 2:30 p.m. or after 6:30 p.m.
- Summer Fridays start early. In July and August, traffic toward Niagara builds from early afternoon. Leave by noon or wait until the evening.
- Windy days. High winds have tipped transport trucks on the Skyway in past years, closing lanes or the whole bridge until conditions eased. It is rare, but on a stormy day your chauffeur checks 511 Ontario before setting off.
- Coming home late is easy. Northbound after 10 p.m., the Skyway is usually clear and the return takes the off-peak time.
The QEW is the Queen Elizabeth Way, the main highway around the western end of Lake Ontario from Toronto to Fort Erie. The Skyway is part of it, not a separate road.

An evening plan: dinner, the lights, home by midnight
Here is a simple shape for a weekday or weekend evening from Oakville. Adjust times to your reservation.
- 5:45 p.m. pickup in Oakville. Past the worst of the afternoon peak on most days; allow extra on a summer Friday.
- About 7:00 p.m. arrival. The chauffeur drops you at the restaurant door or your hotel entrance on Fallsview Boulevard.
- 7:15 p.m. dinner with a view. The Skylon Tower Revolving Dining Room sits 775 ft above the Falls, turns once an hour and recommends reservations for dinner. Our Niagara Falls restaurants guide and the post on falls-view dinner reservations and drop-offs list other choices.
- 9:00 p.m. the Falls at night. The Falls are lit every night of the year; Niagara Parks' illumination page gives the seasonal start times. Between 14 November 2026 and 10 January 2027, the Winter Festival of Lights adds fireworks at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from November 14, then nightly from December 18 to January 2.
- 10:30 p.m. pickup and home. About 1 h 05 – 1 h 20 back to Oakville on a clear road.
To keep the car through the evening, book by the hour rather than two one-way trips. If you are staying over, the Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls Fallsview at 6700 Fallsview Boulevard is the former Embassy Suites, renamed in April 2026; our Hyatt Regency Fallsview page explains the entrance cars use.
The car for two
For a couple, the vehicle choice is about the mood of the evening more than space.
- Mercedes-Benz E / S-Class (up to 2 passengers, 2 bags): the usual choice, quiet and unhurried.
- Mercedes-Maybach or Rolls-Royce (up to 2, 2 bags): for an anniversary, an engagement or a fiftieth. Availability is confirmed at booking.
- Executive Black SUV (Escalade / Navigator) (up to 6, 6 bags): if two couples are going together, or you are packing for a weekend.
The chauffeur never drinks, and passengers do not drink in our vehicles either: Niagara Region's vehicle-for-hire by-law forbids a driver from permitting it. If you want a bottle for later, the booker can add a sealed one as a gift to take away. For proposals, our anniversary and proposal page explains how chauffeurs time arrivals.
When the GO train is the better call
Oakville is one of the few GTA starts where transit to Niagara is genuinely reasonable. Oakville GO and Bronte GO are both on the Lakeshore West line, which serves Niagara Falls on weekdays and weekends; depending on the trip you either stay on the train or change at Burlington to the timed GO route 12 bus. If you are a couple travelling light, with no fixed dinner time and a hotel near the Falls, the train is a fine choice. Niagara Falls GO shares the VIA Rail station at 4267 Bridge Street, about 4 km from the Falls, so you will still need a short local ride. The VIA Rail Niagara Falls station page has the details.
The car makes more sense when you want to arrive at the restaurant door at a set time, travel back after the last train, or treat the drive as part of the occasion. It also wins when one of you is carrying a suit bag or a dress for a wedding at a Fallsview hotel, and nobody wants to arrive creased.
Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chauffeur, sedan or black SUV | About 1 h 05 – 1 h 20 off-peak | Fixed fare via the booker, shown before payment | 2 bags (E / S-Class) to 6 (SUV) | Dinner evenings, occasions, late returns |
| Rideshare app | Similar drive time | Surge pricing on busy nights; a ride home is not guaranteed | Car-dependent | One-way trips on a quiet day |
| Taxi | Similar drive time | Metered or a flat rate agreed in advance | Sedan or minivan | Short notice, one way |
| GO train or train plus route 12 bus | Longer, with a local ride at the Niagara end | Distance-based GO fare | What you carry | Couples travelling light with flexible times |
| Driving yourself | Same as a chauffeur | Fuel and Fallsview parking | Your car | Couples happy for one person to skip the wine |
Verdict. For a daytime one-way trip, a rideshare is perfectly fine from Oakville, and the train is a good option too. For an evening, the honest problem with a rideshare is the return: after 10 p.m. you are asking a stranger to drive 95 km back to Oakville. A chauffeur booked by the hour simply waits. Our chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare guide compares the trade-offs in more depth.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get from Oakville to Niagara Falls?
Downtown Oakville to the Fallsview area is about 95 km (59 mi), usually 1 h 05 – 1 h 20 off-peak. Bronte is a little closer. Weekday afternoon rush hour and summer Friday afternoons can add 30 to 45 minutes, mostly around Burlington and the Skyway.
Is there a train from Oakville to Niagara Falls?
Yes. Oakville GO and Bronte GO are on the Lakeshore West line, which serves Niagara Falls. Some trips run through and others connect at Burlington to the GO route 12 bus. Check the GO schedule for your date, and plan a short local ride from the station to your hotel.
What is the best time to leave Oakville for a dinner at the Falls?
On weekdays, leave before 2:30 p.m. or after 6:30 p.m. to avoid the afternoon peak over the Skyway. In summer, leave Friday trips by noon. A 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. pickup suits most dinner reservations from 7:15 p.m. onward.
Can the chauffeur wait while we have dinner?
Yes. Book "By the hour" and the car stays with you for the evening, or book a return at a fixed time. Either way, you are not looking for a ride back to Oakville late at night.
How much does an Oakville to Niagara Falls car cost?
The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, destination, date and vehicle before you pay. We do not publish a rate card because the fare depends on the trip, but you see every vehicle's price side by side before you book.
Can we have a glass of wine in the car?
No. Drinking is not permitted in our vehicles under Niagara Region's by-law and Ontario's liquor law. Enjoy wine with dinner; the chauffeur drives you home. A sealed bottle can be added in the booker as a gift to take away.
What is the cancellation policy?
Counted from the scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours' notice is free, 72 hours or less is 10%, 48 hours or less is 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100%. Long weekends may have a different deadline, printed on your confirmation.
