Fifty-four minutes. That is what road-routing data gives for the drive from Spencer Smith Park on Burlington's waterfront to the Fallsview district, with no traffic. Real life adds a little, but the point stands: Burlington to Niagara Falls is short enough to decide on at lunchtime and do the same evening. NiagaraFallsLimo.net runs this trip for solo travellers, commuters meeting a train and people who simply want to see the Falls lit up without driving home in the dark. This post covers the pickup points that keep the trip under an hour, the one bridge that can upset it, and how to plan a quick evening.
Can you get from Burlington to Niagara Falls in under an hour?
Often, yes. From downtown Burlington, Niagara Falls, Ontario is about 72 km (45 mi), usually 55 minutes to 1 h 05 off-peak; from Burlington GO it is about 76 km (47 mi). Weekday rush hour or wind on the Burlington Skyway can add time. NiagaraFallsLimo.net shows a fixed fare in its booker.
The honest version: from the lakefront and south Burlington, under an hour is normal outside rush hour. From Appleby GO or north Burlington, which are about 83 km away, it is closer to an hour and five minutes. Leave at 4:45 p.m. on a Friday in July and nobody can promise you an hour.
Pickup points that make the hour possible
The fastest pickups are the ones closest to the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) on the Niagara side of Burlington.
- Downtown and the waterfront (Brant Street, Lakeshore Road, Spencer Smith Park): a few minutes to the QEW and the Skyway. The best start for a quick trip.
- Burlington GO: about 76 km to Fallsview. Useful if you are arriving from Toronto on the Lakeshore West line and want a car for the rest of the journey. Give your train time in the booker so the chauffeur meets the train you are actually on.
- Aldershot GO: about 78 km, at the western edge of the city near the Hamilton border. Handy for people coming from the west.
- Appleby GO and east Burlington: about 83 km, joining the QEW where it runs together with Highway 403.
- North Burlington (Alton Village, Millcroft, Tyandaga): add a few minutes to reach the QEW, or the chauffeur may use Highway 407 ETR's western end if it is quicker on the day.
- Hotels near the QEW: give the hotel name and the main entrance.

The Skyway: traffic, wind and the way around
Every Burlington trip to Niagara crosses the Burlington Bay James N. Allan Skyway, the high-level QEW bridge over the channel between Lake Ontario and Hamilton Harbour. It is the one place this short trip can go wrong.
Traffic. The Skyway is a funnel for everything heading to Hamilton and Niagara. Metrolinx's timetables define weekday rush hour as 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.; going toward Niagara, the afternoon window is the one that bites. Outside it, the bridge is usually a two-minute crossing.
Wind. The Skyway is high and exposed. Strong winds have blown transport trucks over on it more than once, and on those days police have closed lanes or the whole bridge until the wind dropped; a well-reported incident in March 2017 closed it in both directions for part of the day. It does not happen often, but when a wind warning is in force, your chauffeur checks 511 Ontario for closures before leaving.
The way around. If the Skyway is closed, the lower Eastport Drive lift bridge along the beach strip is not a dependable alternative; police said it was unavailable during a 2023 wind incident. The practical detour runs through Hamilton: Highway 403, then the Lincoln Alexander and Red Hill Valley parkways back down to the QEW. It adds time, but it moves.
For visitors: the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way) is the lakeshore highway linking Toronto with Niagara and the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie. The Skyway is simply the part of it that crosses the harbour mouth.

Quick evening trips for the lights and fireworks
Because the drive is so short, Burlington is the GTA's best launch point for a spontaneous evening at the Falls.
The lights. The Falls are illuminated every night of the year. Start times range from about 4:30 p.m. in November and December to 8:30 p.m. in early summer, with the lights running until 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. depending on the season.
Fireworks. In 2026 the summer fireworks series ran nightly at 10 p.m. from 15 May to 12 October, as listed on the Niagara Parks fireworks page. That season is over. Next up is the free Winter Festival of Lights, from 14 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, with displays lit from 5 p.m. to midnight and fireworks at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from November 14, then nightly from December 18 to January 2.
A sample November Friday:
- 6:15 p.m. pickup at your Burlington door.
- About 7:15 p.m. drop-off near Queen Victoria Park, the main viewing area.
- 8:00 p.m. fireworks over the Falls, then a walk through the light displays.
- 9:30 p.m. pickup at an agreed spot; home by about 10:30 p.m.
Dress for the spray and the cold. Even in November the mist drifts across the promenade near Table Rock, and the wind off the gorge is sharper than anything you felt leaving Burlington. A warm coat in the car, which you can leave with the chauffeur, is a small luxury of not taking transit.
Book it by the hour so the car stays with you, or as a return with a set pickup time. Our illumination and fireworks page explains where cars can stop near the viewing areas on busy nights.
Travelling alone: what a solo booking looks like
A lot of Burlington bookings are for one person: a business traveller heading to a Fallsview conference, a nurse finishing a shift and meeting family, a visitor who has landed at Toronto Pearson and is staying with friends in Burlington first.
- The vehicle. The Standard Sedan (Cadillac XTS or similar) takes up to 3 passengers and 2 large bags; the Mercedes-Benz E / S-Class takes 2 passengers and 2 bags. Either is right for one person.
- Safety and certainty. You know the vehicle class, the pickup time and the fare before you leave. Licensed, commercially insured vehicles and chauffeurs.
- Work on the way. Fifty-five minutes is enough for a call or a stack of email.
- Late finishes. A return booked for 11 p.m. is waiting at 11 p.m.

Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chauffeur (sedan or E / S-Class) | About 55 min – 1 h 05 off-peak | Fixed fare via the booker, shown before you pay | 2 bags | Set times, evenings, late returns |
| Rideshare app | Similar once a driver accepts | Surge pricing on busy evenings | Car-dependent | A spontaneous one-way daytime trip |
| Taxi | Similar drive time | Metered or a flat rate agreed first | Sedan or minivan | When nothing else is free |
| GO train from Burlington | Train time plus a local ride from Niagara Falls GO | Distance-based GO fare | What you carry | Travellers near Burlington, Aldershot or Appleby GO with flexible plans |
| GO route 12 bus | Longer, with stops at Grimsby, Beamsville and St. Catharines | Distance-based GO fare | One bag | Budget trips to stops along the QEW |
| Driving yourself | Same as a chauffeur | Fuel and parking near the Falls | Your car | Daytime visits with an easy drive home |
Verdict. This is the route where we are most comfortable saying the alternatives are fine. For a daytime trip on your own, a rideshare or your own car is reasonable, and if you live by a GO station on the Lakeshore West line the train is a good choice; Niagara Falls GO is about 4 km from the Falls, so allow for a local ride at the end. The chauffeur wins on fixed timing, on the return after a late evening, and when the evening includes dinner with wine and nobody should drive. Our Niagara Falls taxi alternative page explains how a booked car differs from a rank taxi.

Who this suits
Individuals get the most from this route: short, predictable and easy to book for one. Couples use it for spontaneous evenings at the Falls without either person driving home. Families from Burlington often book the Standard SUV for a day at the Falls with car seats from the booker. Groups heading to a wedding or a casino night fit the Executive Sprinter, up to 12 with carry-on bags. Frequently asked questions
How long is the drive from Burlington to Niagara Falls?
From downtown Burlington it is about 72 km (45 mi), usually 55 minutes to 1 h 05 off-peak. From Appleby GO or north Burlington, allow about 1 h 05 – 1 h 15. Weekday afternoon rush hour and summer Fridays can add 30 minutes or more around the Skyway.
Does the Burlington Skyway close in high winds?
It has. Strong winds have blown transport trucks over on the Skyway, and police have closed lanes or the whole bridge until conditions improved. Closures are uncommon. On windy days your chauffeur checks 511 Ontario and, if needed, detours through Hamilton.
Can you pick me up at Burlington GO?
Yes. Enter Burlington GO, Aldershot GO or Appleby GO as the pickup and add your train time or number. The chauffeur meets you at the station's pickup area for the drive to Niagara Falls.
Is the GO train a good option from Burlington?
It can be. Burlington is on the Lakeshore West line, which serves Niagara Falls; some trips run through and others connect to the GO route 12 bus. It suits flexible, light travellers. Remember the Niagara Falls station is about 4 km from the Falls.
When are the next fireworks at Niagara Falls?
The 2026 summer series ended on 12 October. The Winter Festival of Lights runs from 14 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, with fireworks at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from November 14, then nightly from December 18 to January 2. Check Niagara Parks and the festival site before you go.
How do I get a price for the trip?
Type the trip into the booker with your vehicle choice. It shows the fixed all-in fare for each vehicle class before you pay. There is no meter and no surge, and the price on your confirmation is the price you pay.
Can the car wait for me in Niagara Falls?
Yes. Book "By the hour" for an evening where the chauffeur stays with you, or book a return at a set time. Either option means you are not hunting for a ride back to Burlington after dark.
