Montreal is the largest city in Quebec, French-speaking first, and about seven and a half hours by road from the Horseshoe Falls. People searching for a Montreal limo service usually want one of two things: a car in the city itself (an airport pickup, a wedding, a night out, a day of meetings) or a way to get a family or group from Montreal to Niagara Falls without three train changes. NiagaraFallsLimo.net books both, and it is worth being clear from the start about how.
Who drives in Montreal. We are based in the Niagara region and dispatch our own chauffeurs in Ontario. For local service in Montreal, the car is provided by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured partner from the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, and NiagaraFallsLimo.net remains your point of contact for the booking, any changes and any problem. We do not have an office, garage or staff in Montreal, and we will not pretend otherwise.
What is the best way to get from Montreal to Niagara Falls?
For a family or group, a private car is the simplest: about 669 km, usually 7 h 30 to 8 h 45, on Autoroute 20 and Highway 401, with no change of vehicle. NiagaraFallsLimo.net arranges the trip from any Montreal address to your Niagara hotel. Enter it in the online booker to see a fixed fare, and the vehicle confirmed, before you pay.
For one or two people travelling light, the train or a flight can make more sense, and we say so in the comparison below. To compare vehicle classes for the drive, see the fares by vehicle below.
Our journal has a longer piece on planning this trip in both languages: Montreal to Niagara Falls chauffeured trip: a bilingual planning guide. For the return north, see the Niagara Falls to Ottawa and Montreal route.
The road west: Autoroute 20 becomes Highway 401
Leaving the island, the route follows Autoroute 20 (or Autoroute 40 and then the 20, depending on where you start) west along the St. Lawrence to the Ontario border, where the road continues as Highway 401. From there it is a long, steady run past Cornwall, Brockville and Kingston, along the north shore of Lake Ontario, then around Toronto and down the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) into Niagara.
Three things a visitor might not know:
- Road signs change language at the border. Quebec signs are in French; Ontario signs are in English, with French on some routes.
- Toronto is the bottleneck. Most of the variation in travel time comes from the Greater Toronto Area. The chauffeur often uses the toll-free provincial section of Highway 407 East and then the privately run 407 ETR, which bills tolls electronically with no booths, to get around the city.
- No border crossing, no passports needed for Canadians. Montreal to Niagara Falls, Ontario, stays inside Canada. International visitors still need their own documents for Canada, and anyone planning to step across to the US side needs a separate plan; see international visitors.

Montreal to Niagara Falls and back: a sensible itinerary
A same-day round trip would mean around sixteen hours on the road, so we do not offer it as a day trip. The shape that works:
Day 1: Montreal to the Falls
- 8:00 Pickup in Montreal.
- 8:00 – 11:00 West on the 20 and 401 to the Kingston area.
- 11:00 – 12:00 Lunch stop.
- 12:00 – 16:00 On past Toronto and down the QEW. Arrive late afternoon, check in, and walk the Falls at dusk.
Day 2: the Falls and wine country. Morning at the brink and the boats, afternoon along the Niagara Parkway to Niagara-on-the-Lake. A car can be booked by the hour for the day; our Niagara wine tour limo page shows how a winery day runs, and the Niagara Falls tour packages set out ready-made itineraries. For evenings, Clifton Hill is a short ride from the Fallsview hotels.
Day 3: back to Montreal, leaving mid-morning so the Toronto stretch is behind you before the afternoon rush.
One way only. Plenty of travellers book a single leg: Montreal to the Falls, then a flight home from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) or Buffalo Niagara International (BUF). Our city-to-city rides page explains how longer single trips are arranged.
Montréal-Trudeau airport limo (YUL)
Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is in Dorval, on the west of the island, about 20 km from downtown and usually 25 to 45 minutes by car depending on traffic on the autoroutes. For planning the city side of your stay, Tourisme Montréal is the official visitor site.
A pre-booked YUL airport car, provided by our Montreal partner, gives you:
- A known pickup. The chauffeur tracks your flight and meets you at the agreed point; meet and greet inside arrivals with a name board can be added in the booker.
- The right vehicle. A sedan for one or two, an SUV for up to six with six bags, or a Sprinter for a group.
- Child seats. You can pick child, toddler or booster seats in the booker.
- A direct run to Ontario if you want it. YUL straight to Ottawa, Kingston or all the way to Niagara Falls, saving a night in the city if Niagara is the real destination.

Party bus and limo rental in Montreal
Montreal's nightlife and event calendar keep partner vehicles busy year round. Typical bookings through us:
- Canadiens games and concerts at the Bell Centre, 1909 avenue des Canadiens-de-Montréal, downtown. A party bus or stretch SUV drops the group at the arena and collects them afterwards.
- Weddings in Old Montréal, around Place d'Armes and the Notre-Dame Basilica, at venues near the Old Port, or in the suburbs and countryside. The usual pairing is a car for the couple and a larger vehicle for the wedding party; our wedding limo page explains how a wedding-day booking is structured.
- Stags, stagettes and birthdays. A party bus moving between dinner and the evening's stops. See party bus for sizes.
- Proms and graduations, with a fixed pickup list and a confirmed return time.
We do not arrange drinking on board for any booking, here or in Ontario, where the law gives limousines no exception. Celebrate at the venues; the vehicle is the safe way between them.
Getting around the city by the hour
An hourly car suits a business day or a sightseeing loop: Old Montréal, the Mount Royal lookout, Parc Jean-Drapeau, the downtown museums. A few practical notes for visitors comparing a chauffeur with renting a car:
- No right turn on red on the island. The SAAQ allows right turns on red across Quebec except on the island of Montréal and where signs prohibit it. It catches out many visiting drivers.
- Winter tires. Quebec-registered vehicles, including rentals, must have winter tires from December 1 to March 15, according to the SAAQ.
- Central Station. VIA Rail trains use Montréal Central Station (Gare Centrale), 895 de la Gauchetière West, beneath the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, as listed on VIA Rail's station page. Give your train number and the pickup follows your arrival.
Montreal to Niagara Falls: comparing the options
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rideshare app | Not practical for 669 km | Surge pricing | One boot | Rides within Montreal |
| Taxi | Not usually offered for this distance | Metered or negotiated | One boot | Local trips |
| VIA Rail to Toronto, then GO or VIA to Niagara | About 8 h – 9 h 30 with the change at Union | Public fares, separate tickets | What you can carry between trains | Solo travellers and couples who like rail |
| Fly YUL to Toronto Pearson or Buffalo, then a car | About 4 h 30 – 5 h 30 door to door with airport time | Airfare plus the ground leg | Airline allowance | Travellers short on time |
| Driving yourself | 7 h 30 – 8 h 45 plus parking | Fuel, 407 ETR tolls if used, parking at the Falls | Your own car | Experienced long-distance drivers |
| Private chauffeur | 7 h 30 – 8 h 45, door to door | Fixed fare via the booker, shown before you pay | Matched to the vehicle class | Families, groups, older travellers, heavy luggage |
The honest view: for one traveller with a suitcase, the train via Toronto Union Station is comfortable and usually the better value; our guide to getting to Niagara by train and bus explains the Niagara end. If time is the main concern, a flight to Toronto Pearson or Buffalo with one of our Ontario chauffeurs meeting you is fastest. A private car from Montreal wins for families with car seats, groups who can split one vehicle, and anyone who would rather not move luggage between trains, taxis and hotel lobbies. It also lets you stop in Kingston or at the Thousand Islands on the way.

How long is the drive from Montreal to Niagara Falls?
About 669 km, usually 7 h 30 to 8 h 45 by private car on Autoroute 20, Highway 401, the 407 and the QEW. Meal stops and Toronto traffic add time, so most travellers plan on a full day.
Can a limo pick us up in Montreal for a day trip to Niagara Falls and bring us back?
Not as a day trip. The round trip is roughly sixteen hours of driving. We suggest one or two nights at the Falls, or a one-way car to Niagara with a flight home from Toronto Pearson or Buffalo.
Who provides the car in Montreal?
Local Montreal service, such as YUL transfers, party buses and hourly cars, is provided by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured partner from the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network. NiagaraFallsLimo.net takes the booking and remains your point of contact throughout.
Which airport serves Montreal?
Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), in Dorval, about 20 km west of downtown. A pre-booked car usually takes 25 to 45 minutes to the city centre, depending on traffic.
Do we need passports to go from Montreal to Niagara Falls, Ontario?
Canadian residents travelling within Canada do not cross a border. International visitors need valid documents for Canada, and anyone planning to visit the US side of the Falls must carry the documents the US requires.
Can the chauffeur speak French?
Tell us your language preference in the booking notes and we pass it to the partner or chauffeur assigned. We cannot promise a particular language on every trip, so ask the reservations desk to confirm before you travel.
Is drinking allowed on a Montreal party bus?
Drinking on board is not part of any booking we arrange. In Ontario, the law has no limousine exception, and we apply the same rule to every trip we book.
