Billy Bishop to Niagara Falls is a trip of two very different halves. The first is a few hundred metres from the island terminal to the mainland, by tunnel or ferry. The second is about 130 km (81 mi) of city expressway and lakeshore highway to the Falls. NiagaraFallsLimo.net plans the pickup around the island's quirks, so you are on the road within minutes of reaching the mainland rather than circling Eireann Quay.
How do I get from Billy Bishop Airport to Niagara Falls?
From Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) to Niagara Falls, Ontario is about 130 km (81 mi), usually 1 h 30 – 1 h 50 off-peak via the Gardiner Expressway and the QEW. NiagaraFallsLimo.net meets you at the mainland pavilion on Eireann Quay, tracks your flight and shows a fixed fare in the booker before you pay.
The airport sits on the Toronto Islands, right across the Western Gap from the foot of Bathurst Street. Passengers reach the mainland on foot through a pedestrian tunnel or aboard a short ferry. Cars, taxis and rideshares wait on the mainland side, which is where a pre-booked chauffeur meets you too.
Tunnel or ferry: getting off the island
You will choose between two crossings when you leave the terminal. Both are quick.
- The pedestrian tunnel. It runs 853 ft (260 m) under the lake, about 100 ft below the surface, with moving walkways. The airport says the tunnel takes travellers from curb to check-in in under six minutes (Billy Bishop pedestrian tunnel). Arriving passengers use it in reverse.
- The ferry. The Marilyn Bell crosses the Western Gap about every 15 minutes, with sailings listed from early morning to just after midnight, and has run on 100% electric power since December 2021 (Billy Bishop ferry).
Most travellers with wheeled bags take the tunnel. Either way, you come out at the mainland pavilion on Eireann Quay.
Where the chauffeur meets you on Eireann Quay
Billy Bishop has tight curb rules because the mainland space is small. The airport describes drop-offs as a brief stop at the curb outside the mainland pavilion and ferry terminal, with free spots inside the turning circle for a maximum 5-minute wait. Taxis pick up from a corral to the right of the pavilion at the foot of Eireann Quay, and the rideshare zone is the curb next to Little Norway Park, where drivers without a fare may not wait on airport property (Billy Bishop pick-up and drop-off).
Because of those rules, a chauffeured pickup at YTZ works best like this:
- Your chauffeur tracks the flight and waits nearby rather than idling at the curb.
- You land, collect your bag and message the chauffeur from the details on your confirmation as you enter the tunnel.
- The car pulls into the pickup area as you reach the mainland pavilion, and you are loaded within the short window the curb allows.
If you prefer to be met in person, choose meet & greet in the booker and the chauffeur meets you on the mainland side as you arrive from the tunnel. A car can also cross on the ferry to collect passengers at the island terminal, but the ferry fee and any parking fees apply, so we only arrange it when there is a good reason, such as reduced mobility. Tell us in the booking notes if that applies to you.

Out of downtown: the Gardiner, then the QEW
From Eireann Quay the chauffeur joins Lake Shore Boulevard and the Gardiner Expressway heading west along the waterfront. At Highway 427 the Gardiner becomes the Queen Elizabeth Way, and from there the drive is the same lakeshore highway as any trip from Toronto: Mississauga, Oakville, the Burlington Skyway, Hamilton, the Beamsville Bench and the Garden City Skyway in St. Catharines, then south into Niagara Falls.
Downtown is the variable. A Billy Bishop arrival at the evening rush can spend more time getting from Bathurst Street to the city limits than on the next 50 km of QEW, and big events at the waterfront, the stadium or the arena fill Lake Shore Boulevard. Allow 2 h or more on a summer Friday afternoon. Your chauffeur leaves from where the traffic is lightest, not by habit.

Transit from the island is genuinely good for getting downtown. The airport notes that the TTC 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst streetcars serve it, and that the 509 reaches Union Station in under 15 minutes (Billy Bishop public transportation). From Union you can take a GO train toward Niagara Falls, roughly 2 h 20 – 2 h 35 on recent timetables, or an intercity bus from the Union Station Bus Terminal. Our train and bus guide covers both.
When transit beats a car, and when it does not
Transit wins if you are spending a night downtown first, if you are travelling alone with a carry-on, or if a GO departure happens to fit your landing time. The 509 streetcar to Union is cheaper and often faster than any car through rush-hour downtown traffic.
A chauffeur wins when you are going straight to Niagara with real luggage, with children who need car seats, or as a group. It also wins late at night: the ferry runs until just after midnight, but GO trains to Niagara run only a limited number of times a day, so a late landing rarely matches one. And it wins when you want one fixed price agreed before you fly rather than a meter running in Gardiner traffic. US preclearance at Billy Bishop since March 2026
One change matters for your return trip. Since March 10, 2026, Billy Bishop has offered US Customs and Border Protection Preclearance, so every US-bound passenger clears US immigration and customs in Toronto before departure. A CBP User Fee of $22.50 CAD per US-bound passenger applies in the first year and is collected by the airline when the ticket is bought (Billy Bishop preclearance).
If you are flying from YTZ to a US city after your Niagara stay, build the preclearance step into your departure time, in the same way you would at Pearson. Your chauffeur drops you on Eireann Quay, and you walk the tunnel to the terminal.
Can jets fly into Billy Bishop?
Not today, and travellers sometimes ask because of the 2026 headlines. Ontario's Bill 110, the Building Billy Bishop Airport Act, 2026, received Royal Assent on June 2, 2026, allowing the province to take over City of Toronto lands at the airport. On July 24, 2026 the federal government rejected Ontario's plan to expand the airport for jets on a longer runway. For your trip, nothing changes: you fly in on the airlines and aircraft that already use the island.
Porter Airlines is the main carrier at Billy Bishop, and Air Canada also operates there. Check your ticket for the current schedule. Private aircraft use the Porter FBO in Hangar #6; for planeside or FBO pickups see private jet and FBO transfers.
Vehicles for the YTZ to Niagara run
| Vehicle class | Passengers | Bags |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Sedan (Cadillac XTS or similar) | up to 3 | 2 large |
| Mercedes-Benz E / S-Class | up to 2 | 2 |
| Standard SUV (Suburban / Yukon XL) | up to 6 | 6 |
| Executive Black SUV (Escalade / Navigator) | up to 6 | 6 |
| Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz) | up to 12 | carry-on only |
| Mercedes-Maybach | up to 2 | 2 |
Larger vehicles are harder to stage on Eireann Quay's small curb, so for a group bigger than one Sprinter we may suggest two cars meeting at slightly different times. Maybach and Rolls-Royce availability is confirmed at booking. See the full fleet.
Onward from the Falls: wine country, the US side and other airports
Many Billy Bishop arrivals are business travellers heading to a Niagara conference, or couples booked into Niagara-on-the-Lake. From YTZ, Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake is a similar distance to the Falls; our Toronto to Niagara-on-the-Lake route and Niagara wine tour limo pages cover the stay.
If your plans continue into New York State, every passenger needs their own valid documents for the US border; read what you need to cross into the US. And if you are comparing airports for the next trip, Toronto Pearson has far more routes, while Hamilton is closer to the Falls. Every airport we serve is on the airport transfers hub.
Who the Billy Bishop transfer suits
Individuals, especially business travellers on short Porter flights from elsewhere in Canada or the US, use it to go from the island to a Niagara meeting without a stop downtown. Couples add a winery lunch on the QEW. Families avoid hauling car seats and children through Union Station. Groups of colleagues travelling to the same conference share an SUV or a Sprinter. Our individuals page has more on solo trips to Niagara.

How far is Billy Bishop Airport from Niagara Falls?
About 130 km (81 mi) by road to Niagara Falls, Ontario. Off-peak, the drive usually takes 1 h 30 – 1 h 50 via the Gardiner Expressway and the QEW. Downtown rush hour and summer Fridays can push it past two hours.
Where is the pickup area at Billy Bishop Airport?
All ground transport meets passengers on the mainland side, at the pavilion on Eireann Quay at the foot of Bathurst Street. Taxis use a corral to the right of the pavilion, rideshares use the curb next to Little Norway Park, and pre-arranged cars stop briefly at the pavilion curb.
Is there a train from Billy Bishop to Niagara Falls?
Not directly. Take the TTC 509 Harbourfront streetcar to Union Station, under 15 minutes according to the airport, then a GO train to Niagara Falls. The GO leg takes roughly 2 h 20 – 2 h 35, so plan on about three hours or more in total.
Do I need to take the ferry or the tunnel?
Either works. The pedestrian tunnel runs under the Western Gap with moving walkways, and the Marilyn Bell ferry crosses about every 15 minutes. Both bring you to the mainland pavilion where your chauffeur meets you.
Can my driver pick me up on the island?
A vehicle can cross on the ferry to the island terminal, but the ferry fee and any parking fees apply. For most passengers the mainland pickup is quicker. If someone in your party has reduced mobility, say so in the booking notes and we will plan the best option.
How much is a car from Billy Bishop to Niagara Falls?
The online booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your pickup, drop-off and chosen vehicle before you pay. That fare does not change if the Gardiner is slow, and there is no surge pricing at busy times.
Does Billy Bishop have US customs preclearance?
Yes. Since March 10, 2026, US-bound passengers clear US immigration and customs at Billy Bishop before departure. Allow time for it when you plan your ride back from Niagara.
