Some Niagara trips start a long way west of Toronto. If you are flying in from Calgary on WestJet, coming home from a winter sun holiday, or visiting Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge before a few days at the Falls, the airport on your ticket may be Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) in Breslau, and the question becomes how to get from the Kitchener airport to Niagara Falls. NiagaraFallsLimo.net meets arrivals there and drives them south-east to Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake or the wine country, at a fixed fare shown in the online booker before you pay. We also run the trip the other way, taking Niagara residents to YKF for their flights.
This page covers the distance, the route through Hamilton and over the Burlington Skyway, the airport's own ground transport, and when another option makes more sense.
How far is Kitchener airport from Niagara Falls?
Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) in Breslau is about 138 km (86 mi) from the Horseshoe Falls by road, usually 1 h 50 – 2 h 05 off-peak via Highway 401, Highway 6, Highway 403 and the QEW. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives it door to door; enter your flight number in the online booker to see a fixed fare.
Road-routing distances from YKF, with no traffic:
- Horseshoe Falls (Table Rock): about 138 km.
- Fallsview hotels: about 134 km.
- Niagara-on-the-Lake: about 134 km.
For comparison, downtown Kitchener is about 142 km from the Falls, uptown Waterloo about 144 km and Cambridge about 119 km. If you are being collected from a home or hotel in the Region rather than the airport, our Kitchener-Waterloo to Niagara Falls route page covers those pickups.
About Region of Waterloo International Airport
The airport's official website gives its address as 4881 Fountain Street North in Breslau, east of Kitchener and close to Highway 401 at Cambridge. It lists Flair Airlines, Sunwing, WestJet and Air Canada as airline partners and mentions direct flights to major Canadian cities, a WestJet non-stop to Calgary, and seasonal routes to the Caribbean and Mexico. Routes change by season, so check your airline for the current schedule.
YKF is a small terminal, which is part of its appeal: the walk from the gate to the curb is short and the arrivals area is easy to find. That also means there is no big ground-transportation hall, so a pre-arranged pickup is worth having.
Ground transport at YKF
The airport's transportation page lists:
- Taxis licensed by the Region of Waterloo, with four named companies.
- Grand River Transit Route 78 Fountain, about every 30 minutes on weekdays during set hours, between Sportsworld Station and the airport.
- Grand River Transit Route 79 Breslau, an on-demand weekday service booked up to two days ahead through the GRT Flex app.
Those options serve the Kitchener-Waterloo area well. None of them goes to Niagara.
The route: Kitchener airport to Niagara Falls
The usual drive runs:

- Local roads to Highway 401 at Cambridge, a few minutes from the terminal.
- Highway 401 east towards Guelph and Milton.
- Highway 6 south across the countryside towards Hamilton, then Highway 403 to the QEW in Burlington.
- The QEW over the Burlington Skyway and along the Lake Ontario shore through Stoney Creek, Grimsby and St. Catharines.
- Into Niagara Falls or, for Niagara-on-the-Lake, off the QEW towards Niagara Stone Road.
When Highway 6 or the Hamilton approach is slow, the chauffeur may stay on the 401 to the 407 ETR and come down to the QEW further east. The 407 ETR bills the vehicle by transponder or plate, so no toll invoice ever reaches you. Live conditions are on Ontario's 511 map.
Timing
- Weekday mid-morning to early afternoon: usually close to the off-peak 1 h 50 – 2 h 05.
- Weekday afternoon rush: the 401 near Milton and the QEW through Burlington and Stoney Creek both slow down; allow 2 h 30 or more.
- Summer Friday afternoons and holiday weekends: the QEW into Niagara is busy; allow up to 3 h.
- Winter: snow belts west of the GTA and the exposed Burlington Skyway can slow the trip; we build that into the plan.
These are planning margins, not promises.
Meeting you at YKF
With flight tracking, the pickup follows your real landing time. Add your flight number when you book. A meet and greet with a name board inside arrivals is a booker option; see meet and greet. If you skip it, you receive the chauffeur's details before landing and meet at the arrivals curb with your luggage. In a terminal this size, that is usually a matter of minutes after the carousel.
Flying out of YKF from Niagara
The trip works in reverse for Niagara residents and visitors flying out of Kitchener-Waterloo: from a Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. Catharines or Welland address to the YKF departures curb. Allow for the 1 h 50 – 2 h 05 drive plus a weekday-rush or holiday margin, then your airline's recommended check-in time. Early-morning departures are the easiest on the road; mid-afternoon ones on a Friday need the most slack.

When renting or transit makes more sense
Rent a car if you plan to tour Waterloo Region, the Niagara wine country and beyond for several days and you are happy to drive and park. Take transit if you are a student or a solo traveller with a backpack, a flexible day and patience for two or three changes. Either is a sensible choice, and we would rather say so.
Book a chauffeur when you are arriving late in the evening; you have children who need car seats; you are four to twelve people with luggage; you want to stop at a winery or the Floral Clock on the way; or you would simply rather sleep through two hours of highway after a flight.
Turning the airport run into part of the trip
A two-hour drive can be more than a transfer. Common additions in the booker:
- A winery stop in the Twenty Valley or Niagara-on-the-Lake on the way in; see the one-day wine tour itinerary.
- A lookout at Table Rock before check-in, if you land in daylight.
- A second stop for a relative in Hamilton or Burlington; see Hamilton to Niagara Falls.
- Onward to the US side, with the chauffeur crossing with you; every passenger must carry their own valid documents. See cross-border car service.
Longer chains of trips across Ontario are covered on city-to-city rides.
Vehicles for the YKF run
- Standard Sedan (Cadillac XTS or similar): one to three travellers and two big suitcases.
- Mercedes-Benz E / S-Class: two passengers, two bags.
- Standard SUV or Executive Black SUV: up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, ideal after a sun holiday with suitcases.
- Executive Sprinter: up to 12 seats; luggage limited to carry-on size.
Each class shows its own fixed fare; models are "or similar". See the fleet.
Who this transfer suits
- Individuals: a Calgary business traveller flying WestJet into YKF for a Niagara conference.
- Couples: a winter getaway that ends with a night at a Niagara-on-the-Lake inn rather than a long drive home; White Oaks Resort and the Fallsview hotels are common destinations.
- Families: coming back from the Caribbean with car seats, strollers and too many bags; see Niagara Falls with kids.
- Groups: a team or wedding party arriving together, in one Sprinter.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Kitchener airport from Niagara Falls?
Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) is about 138 km (86 mi) from the Horseshoe Falls by road, usually 1 h 50 – 2 h 05 off-peak via Highway 401, Highway 6, Highway 403 and the QEW. Rush hours, summer Fridays and winter weather add time.
Which airlines fly into Region of Waterloo International Airport?
The airport's website lists Flair Airlines, Sunwing, WestJet and Air Canada as airline partners, with a WestJet non-stop to Calgary and seasonal flights to the Caribbean and Mexico. Routes change by season, so check your airline's current schedule.
Is there a shuttle from Kitchener airport to Niagara Falls?
The airport's transportation page lists taxis and two Grand River Transit routes that serve the Kitchener-Waterloo area, not Niagara. For a direct trip to Niagara, a pre-booked car is the simplest option.
How much is a car service from YKF to Niagara Falls?
The fare depends on the destination, date, time and vehicle class. NiagaraFallsLimo.net does not publish a rate card; the online booker shows the fixed, all-in fare for your exact trip before you pay.
Is Hamilton or Kitchener-Waterloo closer to Niagara Falls?
Hamilton's airport (YHM) is closer, about 90 km from the Falls, compared with about 138 km from YKF. Choose by flight times and routes; both are straightforward pickups.
Can you take me from Niagara Falls to Kitchener airport for a flight?
Yes. Enter your Niagara address and Region of Waterloo International Airport as the destination, with your flight time, and the booker shows the fixed fare. Plan for about 2 h of driving plus your airline's check-in time.
What happens if my flight into YKF lands late at night?
Flight tracking moves the pickup to your actual landing time, so a late or delayed arrival is covered and the chauffeur is waiting when you reach the curb. Late-evening arrivals are a good reason to pre-book: with a small terminal, there may be few taxis waiting, and the drive to Niagara is about two hours.
Can we stop at a winery between Kitchener-Waterloo and Niagara?
Yes. Add the winery as a stop in the booker and the fixed fare reflects it. Wineries in the Twenty Valley and on the Beamsville Bench sit just off the QEW on the way to the Falls, and the chauffeur never drinks, so everyone in your party can taste.
