Nearly every Niagara visit begins on a highway. For most people that highway is the Queen Elizabeth Way, the QEW, which curves around the western end of Lake Ontario from Toronto to Fort Erie. A Toronto to Niagara Falls car service from NiagaraFallsLimo.net follows it door to door, but the QEW is only one of the roads in our week. This hub lists every route we have written up, with the distance and the drive time you can actually plan around.
How far is Niagara Falls from Toronto by car?
Downtown Toronto to Niagara Falls, Ontario is about 130 km (81 mi), usually 1 h 25 – 1 h 45 off-peak by the Gardiner Expressway and the QEW; allow 2 h or more on a summer Friday. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives it door to door in sedans, SUVs and Sprinters. Enter both addresses in the online booker to see the fixed fare.
The times in this guide are typical, not promises. Construction on the QEW through Burlington and St. Catharines, a Blue Jays game letting out near the Gardiner, or a long-weekend exodus can stretch any of them. Our dispatchers set pickup times with those patterns in mind.

From Toronto and the 905
Toronto is our busiest origin by far. The Toronto to Niagara Falls route page covers condo and hotel pickups downtown, the Gardiner, and when the drive is worth starting before 3 p.m. on a Friday. Travellers flying in should use the separate page for Toronto Pearson to Niagara Falls, since the airport has its own pickup doors and rules.

West and north of the city, three pages cover the suburbs Torontonians call "the 905" after their area code:
- Mississauga to Niagara Falls: Square One, Port Credit and the business parks near the airport, a choice between the QEW and the 403.
- Oakville to Niagara Falls: Oakville and Burlington pickups, already past the worst of the Toronto traffic.
- Vaughan and Markham to Niagara Falls: York Region pickups, where the 407 ETR can save a lot of time. The 407 is a privately operated toll highway with no booths; it bills electronically, which visitors in rental cars often learn about later from the rental company.
Hamilton and the Golden Horseshoe
Hamilton to Niagara Falls is short enough for a dinner reservation in Niagara-on-the-Lake and back the same night. The route either crosses the Burlington Skyway or drops down the Red Hill Valley Parkway to join the QEW at Stoney Creek. From here east, the highway runs through Grimsby, Beamsville and the Twenty Valley, so Hamilton pickups often turn into winery days; our Twenty Valley and Beamsville Bench guide shows what sits right off the highway.
Southwestern Ontario: Kitchener-Waterloo and London
Two longer Ontario routes reach west:
- Kitchener-Waterloo to Niagara Falls: Highway 8 to the 403 and down to the QEW, popular with university families and tech-company outings.
- London, Ontario to Niagara Falls: the 401 east, then the 403 and the QEW, a little over two hours in good conditions.
Both are long enough that the vehicle matters. A Standard SUV or Executive Sprinter gives a group room to stretch, and the chauffeur can plan a comfort stop at a service centre on the 401.
Inside Niagara: the wine country runs
Two of the most useful routes never leave the region. Toronto to Niagara-on-the-Lake delivers guests straight to the Old Town inns or a winery lunch without passing the Falls at all; the QEW exit for Highway 55 takes you through the vineyards on Niagara Stone Road.
Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake follows the Niagara Parkway, about 24–26 km past the Floral Clock, Queenston Heights and the river orchards. Niagara Parks describes the Floral Clock as 40 ft across with up to 16,000 plants, and a chauffeur can pull in so you can see it. For a full day out there, see the Niagara wine tour by limo.
Across the border: Buffalo and New York City
Buffalo to Niagara Falls, Canada is the route American visitors search most. From downtown Buffalo the drive to the Canadian Falls is about 32 km, but the bridge decides the day. Read the border crossing hub and check the documents every passenger needs for entering Canada before you book.
Niagara Falls to New York City is a long-distance trip of about 635 km. It competes with a short flight from Buffalo and with Amtrak's Maple Leaf, which Amtrak lists as a daily New York–Toronto train of about 12 h 30 min, stopping at both Niagara Falls stations. A private car wins for groups with luggage who want to leave on their own schedule.
Long distance east: Ottawa and Montreal
Niagara Falls to Ottawa and Montreal runs east on the 401, a full day's drive with planned stops. These trips use our city-to-city ride service, which covers one-way pricing and the chauffeur's return. VIA Rail is a reasonable choice for solo travellers on these corridors; a car makes sense for families, executives working en route, or anyone carrying more than a suitcase each.
Car service vs train, bus, rideshare and driving
| Way to travel (downtown Toronto to the Falls) | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GO train from Union | Train time plus getting to Union and from the Bridge Street station | Fare set by GO Transit | What you can carry | Solo travellers and couples with light bags |
| FlixBus or Megabus | About 1 h 30 minimum, plus transfers | FlixBus listed fares from $20.98 as of 2026 | One bag plus carry-on | Budget travel |
| Rideshare | 1 h 25 – 1 h 50 plus pickup wait | Surge pricing | Depends on the car | Solo, off-peak |
| Taxi | Similar drive time | Metered | Standard trunk | Short urgent trips |
| Driving yourself | 1 h 25 – 1 h 45 | Fuel, 407 ETR tolls if used, hotel parking | Your trunk | Travellers wanting a car all stay |
| Private car service | 1 h 25 – 1 h 45, door to door | Fixed fare via the booker | Matched to the vehicle class | Families, groups, airport links, winery days |
The honest view: GO Transit advertises trains to Niagara Falls seven days a week, and for one person with a backpack staying near the station, the train is hard to argue with. FlixBus lists at least 13 Toronto–Niagara Falls trips a day. A car service is better when there are four of you sharing one vehicle, when children need seats, when you are heading to a winery or a Fallsview tower rather than a station, or when you would rather not change trains at Union with luggage. Our train and bus guide and the chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare comparison go further.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to travel from Toronto to Niagara Falls?
It depends on your group. A solo traveller with light bags does well on the GO train or a bus. Families, groups and anyone with luggage usually find a car simpler: about 130 km from downtown, usually 1 h 25 – 1 h 45 off-peak, straight to the hotel door. The booker shows our fixed fare before you pay.
How much is a limo from Toronto to Niagara Falls?
The fare depends on the vehicle class, the exact addresses and any return leg. We do not publish a flat figure because trips differ. Enter your pickup and drop-off in the booker and it shows the fixed all-in fare for each vehicle before you pay.
How much is Uber from Toronto to Niagara Falls?
Rideshare prices change with demand, so the same trip can cost more on a Friday evening than a Tuesday morning. Our fare is fixed when you book and does not surge. Compare the app's quote at the moment you travel with the booker's fixed fare for the same route.
Do you need a car to go to Niagara Falls?
Not necessarily. Within the tourist area, WEGO buses, the Falls Incline Railway and walking cover a lot. A car, or a chauffeur, helps for getting there with luggage, for wine country, and for the US side. Many visitors book a car for arrival and departure only.
Can you do a return trip the same day?
Yes. Book a return trip or choose "By the hour" if the car should wait while you visit. Day trips from Toronto are covered in detail on our day tour from Toronto page.
Which bridge do you use from Buffalo?
It depends on your hotel and on conditions at the time. From downtown Buffalo the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie is common; for hotels near the Falls the Rainbow Bridge or the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge may suit better. The chauffeur checks the crossings before you set off.
Do you charge for the 407 ETR?
Routing is part of the fixed fare the booker shows. If you prefer a particular highway, add a note when you book and the chauffeur will follow it where traffic allows.
