Brantford couples tend to book Niagara for the same handful of reasons: an anniversary night at a Fallsview hotel, a weekend away without the kids, a birthday dinner overlooking the gorge. The drive itself is short by Ontario standards. What makes the trip worth thinking about is what lies along the way, because the road from Brantford to Niagara Falls runs below one of Canada's best-known wine benches.
How long is the drive from Brantford to Niagara Falls?
Brantford to Niagara Falls is about 113 km (70 mi) by Highway 403, the Lincoln M. Alexander and Red Hill Valley parkways, and the QEW. NiagaraFallsLimo.net usually covers it in 1 h 30 – 1 h 45 off-peak, longer on weekday afternoons. A winery stop in Lincoln adds 15–20 minutes of driving. See the fixed fare in the online booker.
Most people picture the route as "the 403 then the QEW", which is broadly right. The detail in the middle is what makes it quick.
The corridor, piece by piece
Driving east from Brantford, the trip breaks into four clear sections:
- Highway 403 east. From Brantford the 403 runs through open country past Ancaster, about 25 km, before reaching the Hamilton area.
- The Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway. Locals call it "the Linc". Rather than taking the 403 down the escarpment into downtown Hamilton, the route usually swings onto the Linc and crosses Hamilton Mountain, the upper city on top of the Niagara Escarpment.
- The Red Hill Valley Parkway. From the Linc, the Red Hill drops down the escarpment through a wooded valley to the QEW near Stoney Creek. It is one of the more pleasant urban expressways in Ontario, and it avoids the Burlington Skyway entirely.
- The QEW to Niagara. From Stoney Creek the QEW runs east along the lakeshore past Grimsby, Lincoln and St. Catharines, then turns south to Niagara Falls.
On a clear road this is about an hour and a half. The usual slow spots are the Linc and Red Hill at rush hour, and the QEW through St. Catharines on summer weekends. If you are coming from the Hamilton side rather than Brantford, our Hamilton to Niagara Falls route page covers the same QEW stretch.
The Lincoln stop: wine country without a detour
Here is why this route is a couples' favourite. Between Grimsby and St. Catharines, the QEW passes below the Beamsville Bench and the Twenty Mile Bench, two of the sub-appellations of the Niagara Peninsula. The wineries sit a few minutes up from the highway in the Town of Lincoln, around Beamsville, Vineland and Jordan.
Real stops on or near the route, all with official sites:
- Cave Spring, whose cellars and tasting room are at 3836 Main Street in Jordan village. Jordan is small and walkable, which makes a nice leg-stretch.
- Malivoire, at 4260 King Street East in Beamsville, known for Gamay and Beamsville Bench wines.
- Flat Rock Cellars, at 2727 7th Avenue in Jordan, up on the bench.
Measured by road, Brantford to Jordan is about 87 km (54 mi), roughly 1 h 10 – 1 h 15, and Jordan to the falls is about 34 km (21 mi), close to half an hour. So a single tasting stop adds only a little driving to the day; the real addition is however long you linger.
To plan it, book the trip as a multi-stop journey in the booker: Brantford, then the winery, then your Niagara Falls hotel. If you want to visit two or three wineries, book "By the hour" instead, so the chauffeur stays with you while you taste. Our guide to Twenty Valley and the Beamsville Bench introduces the area, and Wine Country Ontario lists the wineries in the Niagara Benchlands region.
A few practical points:
- Tasting rooms keep their own hours. Check each winery's site before you set the stop, especially on weekdays and in winter.
- Bottles you buy stay sealed. There is no drinking in our vehicles. Ontario's Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019 only allows liquor in a car when it is unopened or packed away, and Niagara Region's by-law forbids chauffeurs from permitting anyone to drink in the vehicle. Your purchases ride in the trunk.
- The chauffeur never drinks. That is the whole point of hiring one for a wine day.
For more on how a full wine day works, see our Niagara wine tour limo service, and the journal post on Jordan Village: inns, wineries and Twenty Valley trails for the village itself.
When to plan the bench stop
The Lincoln wineries are open in every season, but the experience changes through the year:
- Late spring and summer bring green vineyards, patios and the longest opening hours. Weekends are busy, so a weekday transfer gets you a quieter tasting bar.
- September and October are harvest. The vines are heavy with fruit and the escarpment trees turn colour, which makes the Red Hill Valley and the bench roads especially pretty. Niagara's big wine festival weekend in St. Catharines falls in late September; for 2026 it has already passed.
- Winter is quieter, with shorter hours at some tasting rooms. It is also icewine season. Icewine is made from grapes naturally frozen on the vine and picked at minus 8 °C or colder, so January visits sometimes coincide with the harvest itself.
- Long weekends fill up both the wineries and the QEW. Book earlier, and note that a long weekend booking may carry a different cancellation deadline, printed on your confirmation.
On a winter afternoon, a single stop is usually enough. In summer, couples often book two hours "By the hour" in Lincoln and then a straight run to the hotel.
Choosing a car for two
Couples have more choice than anyone else, because most of the luxury classes are built for two:
- Mercedes-Benz E or S-Class, up to 2 passengers and 2 bags. The quiet, understated choice.
- Mercedes-Maybach, up to 2 and 2 bags. Availability confirmed at booking.
- Rolls-Royce, up to 2 and 2 bags. Also confirmed at booking, and the one people book for a proposal or a milestone anniversary.
- Standard Sedan (Cadillac XTS or similar), up to 3 and 2 large bags, if you'd like a little more trunk space for a weekend and a case of wine.
If luggage is the constraint, two bags plus a few wine bottles fit comfortably in the sedan and Mercedes classes; a larger weekend wardrobe may suit an SUV. Our anniversary and proposal limo page has ideas for special occasions.
Arriving at the hotel
Most Brantford couples are heading to the Fallsview district, on the escarpment above the Horseshoe Falls, where the big hotels look straight down on the water. Our Fallsview hotels page lists the main properties and how arrivals work at each. Tell the desk the hotel name when you book; the chauffeur takes you to the main entrance and helps with bags to the door.
If you'd rather stay somewhere quieter, Niagara-on-the-Lake's inns are about 20–25 km north of the falls. The QEW passes the turn for Niagara-on-the-Lake before it reaches Niagara Falls, so it is no longer a drive.
Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private chauffeur | About 1 h 30 – 1 h 45, more with a winery stop | Fixed fare via booker, shown before you pay | Two bags plus wine purchases | Couples, wine stops, special occasions |
| Rideshare | Similar driving time when a driver accepts | Surge pricing at busy times | Depends on the car | A direct one-way trip with no stops |
| Taxi | Similar driving time | Metered or agreed flat rate; ask before you leave | Usually fine | Short local trips in Brantford |
| Train or bus | VIA Rail or bus to Toronto or Hamilton, then a GO connection; well over two hours | Published operator fares | Light bags | Travellers without luggage and with time |
| Driving yourselves | About 1 h 30 each way plus parking | Fuel and hotel parking | Unlimited | Couples who don't plan to taste wine |
The honest verdict: if you're going straight to the hotel with no stops and no wine, driving yourselves is perfectly sensible on a road this short, and a rideshare can do a one-way run. The case for a chauffeur is the winery stop, the occasion, or simply arriving relaxed rather than having one of you navigate Hamilton's parkways. For a wine day in particular, someone who is not drinking has to drive, and it is better if that person is a professional.

Who it suits
Couples are the heart of this route, which is why our couples page is the natural next read. Individuals use it for a straight transfer to a Niagara hotel or a meeting. Families from Brantford book an SUV for a weekend at the falls with child seats from the booker. Groups of friends heading for a wine day take a Sprinter for up to 12, with carry-on bags only. If you are coming from Lincoln or Vineland yourselves, the journal post on Twenty Valley pickups covers that side, and the designated-driver problem in wine country explains why so many couples hire.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Brantford from Niagara Falls?
About 113 km (70 mi) by road to the Fallsview area. Using Highway 403, the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway, the Red Hill Valley Parkway and the QEW, it usually takes 1 h 30 – 1 h 45 off-peak. Weekday rush hours in Hamilton can add time.
Can we stop at a winery on the way?
Yes. Book a multi-stop trip with the winery as a stop, or "By the hour" if you want to visit several. The Lincoln wineries around Beamsville, Vineland and Jordan sit just off the QEW, so a stop adds little driving.
Can we drink wine in the car?
No. There is no drinking in our vehicles. Wine you buy at a winery stays sealed and travels packed away in the trunk, which is what Ontario law requires. Enjoy the tasting at the winery and the bottle at your hotel.
Which vehicle is best for a couple?
A Mercedes-Benz E or S-Class is the usual choice, seating two with two bags. A Mercedes-Maybach or Rolls-Royce suits a milestone occasion, with availability confirmed at booking. The Standard Sedan offers a little more luggage space.
Is there a train from Brantford to Niagara Falls?
Not directly. Train and bus options involve a connection through Toronto or Hamilton before a GO service to Niagara Falls, so they take well over two hours. A private car is the simplest way for a short trip like this.
Does the route go over the Burlington Skyway?
Usually not. From Brantford the fastest road route normally crosses Hamilton Mountain on the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway and drops down the Red Hill Valley Parkway to the QEW at Stoney Creek, which joins the lakeshore east of the Skyway. Your chauffeur may vary this based on live traffic.
What if we decide to stay longer at the winery?
If you booked "By the hour", the chauffeur simply waits and the extra time counts on your booking. On a fixed multi-stop trip, let the desk know as early as possible so the schedule can be adjusted.
