Every summer the same request reaches our desk in slightly different words: "We're staying at the Falls for a week. The kids want Wonderland. Is it a crazy drive?" It is not crazy, but it is a long day. Canada's Wonderland sits beside Highway 400 in Vaughan, on the far side of Toronto from Niagara, and the theme-park day usually ends when the park closes — which, with tired children, is exactly when nobody wants to start a two-hour drive.
This guide from NiagaraFallsLimo.net explains how families pair Niagara Falls and Canada's Wonderland: the distance, the park's calendar, a day-trip plan, an overnight alternative, and when another approach is honestly better.
How far is Canada's Wonderland from Niagara Falls?
Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan is about 144 km (90 mi) from the Fallsview area of Niagara Falls via the QEW, Highway 427, the 401 and Highway 400, usually 1 h 45 – 2 h off-peak; allow 2 h 30 on a summer weekday afternoon. NiagaraFallsLimo.net runs it as a return or one way; the booker fixes the fare first.
The return after closing is normally the quicker direction, because the 400, 401 and QEW are clear late in the evening. The slow windows are inbound mornings before 9:30 and anything between about 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays around the 401.
The park's year, as it stands now
Canada's Wonderland is now operated by Six Flags — its old website redirects to the Six Flags Canada's Wonderland page, which is where current hours, tickets and passes are published. A few things are useful to know when planning:
- It is a four-season park. The main season runs through summer, with the Splash Works waterpark in the warm months.
- Halloween Haunt is on select nights from September 25 to November 1, 2026. It is a scare-themed evening event with late closing times; check the park's age guidance before taking younger children.
- WinterFest, the park's holiday event, follows later in the year. Dates had not been posted on the park page when we checked; look there before you plan a December visit.
- Passes for 2027 are already on sale, with the park noting a price change from November 2.
The park sets its own hours, and they vary by day. Check them for your date before booking a pickup time, because the whole plan hangs on when the gates close.

A day-trip plan from the Falls
This is how most Niagara-based families do it in summer.
- 8:15 a.m. — leave your Niagara hotel. You are going against the worst of the morning traffic for most of the way, but the 401 near the 400 interchange can still be slow.
- 10:00 a.m. — drop-off at the park entrance. Arriving close to opening means shorter lines on the big coasters in the first hour.
- The day. Rides, the waterpark in hot weather, lunch inside the park. The car is not needed in between, so most families book a return trip rather than an hourly booking.
- Pickup time. Agree a time in advance — either an hour before closing, when younger children are fading, or at closing for older ones. Your chauffeur texts the exact meeting point at the front of the park before you come out.
- The drive home. Usually 1 h 45 or less after dark. Most children are asleep before the QEW.
If you want flexibility, book the evening by the hour instead and text the chauffeur when you are ready. The Vaughan and Markham route page covers the road between Niagara and Vaughan in more detail.
The overnight alternative
A full day at a theme park plus four hours on the road is a lot for young children. Some families split it instead:
- Day one: leave the Falls mid-morning, spend the afternoon and evening at the park, and stay overnight at a hotel in Vaughan near the park.
- Day two: a slower morning, then a one-way ride back to Niagara, or onward to Toronto Pearson if the holiday is ending.
This turns the trip into two one-way transfers and removes the late drive. It also makes sense for families flying out of Pearson, which is close to Vaughan; our post on Vaughan and Woodbridge routing looks at the roads in that corner of the GTA.
Which vehicle for a theme-park day
| Vehicle | Passengers | Bags | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Sedan (Cadillac XTS or similar) | Up to 3 | 2 large | A parent and two children |
| Standard SUV (Suburban / Yukon XL) | Up to 6 | 6 | A family of four to six with strollers and bags |
| Executive Black SUV (Escalade / Navigator) | Up to 6 | 6 | The same space with a quieter, premium cabin |
| Executive Sprinter | Up to 12 | Carry-on only | Two families together, a birthday group |
| Stretch SUV Limousine | Up to 16 | Minimal | A teenage birthday or graduation outing |
| Party Bus | Up to 12 | 2 | A celebration night, such as a Haunt outing for older teens |
Stretch SUV limousines and party buses are subject to availability, confirmed at booking. Child, toddler and booster seats are booker options and are fitted before pickup. For two families travelling together, one Sprinter usually beats two separate cars — one fare, one meeting point and everyone home together. Our stretch limo and Sprinter page describes the larger vehicles, and group transportation covers coaches for school or camp groups.
Halloween Haunt and late nights
Haunt nights change the plan. They start in the evening and close late, so the drive back to Niagara can start close to midnight. That is exactly when a chauffeur is most useful: nobody has to stay alert to drive after a night of being chased through mazes. Two tips:
- Agree the pickup point before you go in. On busy event nights the front of the park is crowded and dark; the chauffeur will text a precise spot.
- Bring a layer. Late-October nights in Vaughan are cold, and waiting by the exit is easier with a jacket.
Our usual rules apply on every trip: there is no drinking in our vehicles, and a party bus means music and lights, not drinks.

Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Option | Door to door | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Driving yourself | 1 h 45 – 2 h each way plus park parking | Fuel and paid parking | Your trunk | Families with their own car and a rested driver |
| GO train to Toronto, then transit north | 3 h or more each way with changes | Several public fares | Strollers possible, car seats not needed | Older teens and adults with time to spare |
| Rideshare from Niagara | 1 h 45 – 2 h if a driver accepts | Surge pricing; late return uncertain | Small trunk | Short trips within Vaughan |
| Taxi | 1 h 45 – 2 h | Metered each way | Trunk | Seldom practical over 144 km |
| Private chauffeur | 1 h 45 – 2 h, door to door | Fixed fare via booker | SUV or Sprinter with fitted seats | Families with young children, two-family groups, Haunt nights |
Verdict. If you have your own car and a parent who genuinely does not mind the late drive, drive yourselves — it is a straightforward highway trip. Teenagers and adults on a budget can make it work by train and transit, though it is a long day. Rideshare is fine for a hop from a Vaughan hotel to the gate, but a 144 km late-night return from the park to Niagara is not something to leave to an app. A chauffeur wins for families with car seats, for two families sharing one vehicle, and for any night when the gates close late. Our chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare guide covers the comparison in general.
Who this trip suits
Families are the heart of it: seats fitted, strollers in the back, and a ride home where children can sleep. Our families page has more family-friendly trips. Groups — a birthday party, two families on holiday together, a youth sports team — share a Sprinter or stretch SUV. Couples without children sometimes book it for a Haunt night out. Individuals rarely need it; for one adult, the train is fine.
Back at the Falls
If the children still have energy the next day, Niagara has its own version of theme-park fun. Clifton Hill has rides, arcades and the big observation wheel a block from the Horseshoe Falls — the Clifton Hill site lists what is open. For a rainy day, the indoor waterpark at Great Wolf Lodge is a short ride from Fallsview. And for a calmer finish, the attractions run by Niagara Parks along the river are close by.
If you are planning the Falls part as a day from Toronto instead, see our Toronto family day trip to Niagara Falls, and families coming from Peel Region will find seat and van-size advice in Brampton families heading to Niagara Falls.
