A Niagara Falls tour package is a promise written in shorthand. "Boat cruise included" could mean either of two boats on two sides of an international border. "Wine country visit" could mean three tastings or a stop at a shop. "Hotel pickup" could mean your client's lobby or a corner four blocks away. None of that is dishonest; it is just compressed.
Travel agents ask NiagaraFallsLimo.net to quote private alternatives to packaged days all the time, and the first thing we do is unpack the shorthand. This post is that process, written down so you can use it on any package, ours included.
What is actually included in a Niagara Falls tour package?
Usually transport, some attraction tickets and a set schedule; often not lunch, tasting fees, tax or gratuities. Check which boat, which season and where pickup happens. NiagaraFallsLimo.net quotes the private equivalent online: a chauffeured day from Toronto (about 130 km each way) at a fixed fare, with tickets bought directly from each attraction.
Read the package as line items, not a headline
Break every package into six questions before comparing prices:
- Transport: from where, in what vehicle, shared or private, and for how many hours?
- Boat: which operator, which side of the river, and is it guaranteed in the travel month?
- Food: a full meal, a voucher, or "time for lunch"?
- Wine: how many wineries, and are tasting fees in the price?
- Pickup: door, hotel list, or meeting point?
- Extras: HST, gratuities, fuel surcharges, and the cancellation clause.
A package that answers all six clearly is usually a good one. A package that answers two is a headline.
The boat: which one, which season, which side
Two boats go to the foot of the Falls, and they are not interchangeable.
Niagara City Cruises sails from the Canadian side, from a dock at 5920 Niagara Parkway, and is the official boat tour operator for Niagara Parks. Its season runs April through November, tickets are timed, and as of 2026 Niagara Parks lists adult admission at $47.95 CAD and children 3 to 12 at $32.95, plus 13% HST. If a package says "boat included" for a Toronto-based day, this is almost always the boat it means. Our Niagara City Cruises page covers drop-off and timing.
Maid of the Mist sails from Prospect Point in Niagara Falls State Park, New York. The 2026 season runs from 24 April to 8 November, boarding is first-come, first-served, and the 2026 adult price is $30.25 USD, including the elevator down to the landing. A package that includes it from Toronto must also include a border crossing, which means every passenger needs a valid passport or other accepted document. See our Maid of the Mist page and documents for entering the USA.
The questions to ask: in a December or March package, what replaces the boat? Is the boat ticket a timed reservation or "subject to availability"? If a client wants both boats, our post on combining both boats in one day shows how that day really runs, and the boat tour guide by side and season lays out the options.
Lunch and "dining credits"
Food is where the fine print hides most. Look for one of three phrases:
- "Lunch included" with a named restaurant. Ask whether it is a set menu or a credit, and whether drinks and gratuity are in.
- "Lunch stop" or "time for lunch". The tour pauses; your client pays.
- A view upgrade. Table Rock House Restaurant on the brink of the Horseshoe Falls, or the Skylon Tower's Revolving Dining Room 775 ft up, are sometimes sold as upgrades. They are good, but they also take an hour out of the day.
For a private day, we suggest clients reserve their own table. Table Rock House books through OpenTable, and a reservation fits around the boat rather than the other way round.

Wine stops and tasting fees
"Includes a visit to Niagara wine country" is the phrase to question hardest. A visit can be a single winery shop on the way home, or a structured afternoon of three tastings in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Ask four things:
- How many wineries, and which ones?
- Are tasting fees included, or paid at each winery?
- How long at each? Under 30 minutes is a shop visit, not a tasting.
- Who is driving afterwards? On a coach this is solved; on a self-drive package, it is not.
The Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake sell a Winemakers' Tasting Pass covering more than 20 member wineries, which is a useful benchmark when a package bundles tastings. On our side, there is no drinking in our vehicles; Niagara Region's by-law forbids it, and tastings stay at the winery. A sealed bottle can be added in the booker as a gift to take away. For full wine days, see our Niagara wine tour by limo, and for pricing logic, how much a Niagara wine tour by limo costs.
"Hotel pickup" and where it really starts
"Free hotel pickup" on a shared tour usually means pickup from a list of hotels, or from a meeting point near your client's hotel, often in a window rather than at a time. On a busy summer morning a shared vehicle may make several stops before heading for the QEW, and the first passenger collected spends the most time on board.
On a private booking, pickup is a single address at a single time, and the chauffeur arrives before it. If your client is staying outside downtown Toronto, at Pearson or in a suburb, confirm the package actually covers that address. For Niagara-based clients, the question flips: does the package start at the Falls hotel, or does it assume the client comes from Toronto?
Taxes, gratuities and cancellation clauses
Ontario's harmonized sales tax is 13%, and many attraction prices are listed before it, as the Niagara Parks cruise listing shows. Check whether a package price is "plus HST" or tax-inclusive. Gratuities for a guide or driver are another common extra, often described as "at your discretion".
Then read the cancellation terms. Packages built on several suppliers sometimes carry several sets of terms. Ours are simple and counted from the scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%. Proms, long weekends and big weddings can carry a different deadline, printed on the confirmation. Also ask what happens if the boat does not sail because of weather; operators set their own policy, and a package should say whose it follows.
Building the package yourself with a chauffeured day
For many clients, the cleanest package is a private vehicle plus tickets bought directly. The pattern:
- Transport: a NiagaraFallsLimo.net "By the hour" booking from the client's door, with a fixed fare shown before payment.
- Boat: a timed Niagara City Cruises ticket in season, or the Niagara Parks Power Station and its tunnel all year.
- Lunch: a reservation at a restaurant chosen by the client.
- Wine: one or two Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries, tasting fees paid on site.
- Passes: Niagara Parks also sells bundled passes; its deals and packages page lists what each includes.
Every line is visible, and every supplier is the attraction itself. Our Niagara Falls private tour page describes the day, and the travel agencies page explains how agents book for clients. Comparing against a coach? See our private tour vs big bus tour breakdown.
Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private chauffeur + direct tickets | 1 h 30 – 1 h 50 each way from Toronto off-peak; stops on the client's schedule | Fixed fare via booker; tickets paid to each attraction | Day bags and purchases stay in the car | Couples, families and groups who want every line visible |
| Shared coach package | Fixed loop with multiple pickups | Per-seat package price; check HST, tips, tastings | Small bag | Solo travellers and budget clients |
| Rideshare | One way is possible; multi-stop days are not what it is built for | Surge pricing | Depends on the car | A single ride between two points |
| Taxi | Same roads; best for short local trips | Metered or negotiated | Trunk | Hops within Niagara Falls |
| GO train or bus + WEGO | Check timetables; WEGO links Niagara Parks stops | Public fares; WEGO adult 24-hour pass $16 CAD as of 2026 | What the client carries | Clients happy to skip wine country |
The honest verdict: a shared package is good value for a solo client who wants a guide and does not mind a group schedule, and the train plus WEGO is fine for a Falls-only visit. Rideshare and taxis are not designed for a multi-stop day. A private chauffeur suits clients who want transparency, their own pace, wine country, the US side or car seats.

Book a chauffeured Niagara day
Who it suits
Individuals often do best on a well-written shared package, as long as they know what is excluded. Couples tend to prefer the private build, because lunch and wine are where the day becomes theirs. Families benefit from door pickup and car seats, and from skipping the wait while a coach reloads. Groups of six to sixteen can usually match a package's per-person level with an SUV, Sprinter or Stretch SUV Limousine. If you organise these days often, see how we work with groups and with hotel concierge desks.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best Niagara Falls tour packages available in Canada?
The best package is the one whose line items match your plans. Look for a named boat and a season guarantee, a clear lunch arrangement, stated tasting fees if wine is included, and a real pickup address. For two or more travellers, a private chauffeured day with tickets bought directly is often the most transparent option.
Is the boat ride included in Niagara Falls tour packages?
Often, but check which boat and which months. Packages from Toronto usually mean Niagara City Cruises on the Canadian side, which runs April to November. Maid of the Mist sails from the New York side and needs a border crossing with valid documents for every passenger.
Are wine tastings included in Niagara tour packages?
Sometimes. Some packages include tasting fees at named wineries; others include only a stop. Ask how many wineries, which ones, how long at each, and whether fees are paid on site. A short stop at one winery shop is not the same as a tasting afternoon.
Do Niagara Falls tour prices include HST?
Not always. Many Ontario attraction prices are listed before the 13% HST, and package prices may or may not include it. Check for "plus HST" in the fine print, and ask whether gratuities for the guide or driver are expected on top.
What does "hotel pickup" mean on a Niagara tour?
On shared tours it often means pickup from a list of hotels or a nearby meeting point, within a time window, with other stops on the way. On a private booking it means one address at one time. Confirm the exact pickup point for your client's hotel before booking.
Can a travel agent book a private Niagara day for a client?
Yes. Enter the client's pickup, date and vehicle in the booker, add their details and pay; the confirmation comes by email and can be forwarded. The fixed fare is shown before payment, which makes it simple to build into a client quote.
What happens if it rains on a Niagara Falls tour day?
Boats and Falls viewpoints operate in light rain, and ponchos are part of the experience. In heavy weather, attractions set their own policies. On a private day the chauffeur can swap in indoor stops such as the Butterfly Conservatory, the Floral Showhouse or the Power Station without changing the booking.
