On a football Sunday in October, the QEW southbound from Toronto fills with blue-and-red jerseys well before breakfast. The same highway carries outlet shoppers on Saturdays and travellers heading to Buffalo Niagara International for US domestic flights every day of the week. Toronto to Buffalo is one of the most common cross-border trips in the region, and it looks simple: QEW to the end, cross the river, you are there. The details are what decide whether the day goes smoothly, and NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives this corridor often enough to know where they hide: which bridge suits which destination, what the stadium requires of a limousine, and what Canada Border Services asks of shoppers coming home the same night.
How far is Toronto from Buffalo by car?
Toronto to Buffalo is about 160–175 km (99–109 mi) depending on the destination, usually about 2 hours off-peak plus the border queue. Highmark Stadium is about 176 km (109 mi) from Union Station and Buffalo Niagara International about 172 km (107 mi). NiagaraFallsLimo.net quotes each ride at a fixed fare in its booker.
Four destinations, two bridges
The QEW runs from Toronto around the end of Lake Ontario to the Niagara River, and from there the right bridge depends on where in Buffalo you are going.
| Destination | From Union Station | Usual crossing | Typical drive before the border |
|---|---|---|---|
| Highmark Stadium, Orchard Park | about 176 km (109 mi) | Peace Bridge, Fort Erie | about 2 h 15 |
| Downtown Buffalo, Canalside | about 160 km (99 mi) | Peace Bridge | about 2 h |
| Buffalo Niagara International (BUF) | about 172 km (107 mi) | Lewiston-Queenston, then I-190 and I-290 | about 2 h 15 |
| Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls USA | about 137 km (85 mi) | Lewiston-Queenston or Rainbow | about 1 h 45 |
| Walden Galleria, Cheektowaga | about 172 km (107 mi) | Peace Bridge | about 2 h 10 |
The Peace Bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo is the direct line to downtown and the southern suburbs. It is cashless: tolls are taken on the way into Canada only, by card or E-ZPass, according to the Peace Bridge Authority. The Lewiston-Queenston Bridge is often the better choice for the airport and the northern suburbs. Your chauffeur checks live waits on both before committing.
Bills game day, hour by hour
The new Highmark Stadium opened in 2026 at 10 Bills Plaza in Orchard Park, across from the old stadium it replaced. The Bills' stadium A-to-Z guide sets out the rules that matter most to a group arriving by limousine or van:
- Bus and limo permits. Buses and limousines need a Bus & Limo Lot permit bought in advance; vehicles without one are turned away on game day. Sprinter vans of any size must park in the Limo Lot with an advance pass. Tell us the game when you book, so the permit is part of the plan from the start.
- Road closures. Abbott Road closes to vehicles five hours before kickoff, and general pickup and drop-off is at the Transit Center near Abbott and Southwestern.
- Gates and bags. Security gates open three hours before kickoff, and bags are limited to one clear bag of 12 × 6 × 12 in. or a small clutch.
For a 1 p.m. kickoff, a Toronto group usually leaves around 8:30 a.m. That covers about 2 h 15 of driving, a border queue that can be long on game mornings, and the slow final approach to the lots. After the final whistle, expect the stadium area to take time to clear, then the drive back to the Peace Bridge and the Canadian inspection. Most groups are home in Toronto in the evening; a late-afternoon or night game means a late return.
One rule does not change on game day: there is no drinking in our vehicles. The chauffeur gets you there and home; any tailgate plans have to follow the stadium's own rules, away from the car. Our concerts and sports transportation page covers Sabres games at KeyBank Center and concerts too.
Outlet and mall days, and the same-day rule
Cross-border shopping is the second big reason Torontonians head south. Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls USA, at 1900 Military Road, has more than 100 outlet brands and is the closer option, about 1 h 45 from Union Station before the bridge. Walden Galleria in Cheektowaga is a full-size mall with more than 200 stores, about the same distance as the airport.
Before you fill the trunk, know the Canadian rules for coming home. The Canada Border Services Agency says personal exemptions do not apply to same-day cross-border shoppers. After 24 hours away you may bring back up to CA$200 of goods, excluding alcohol and tobacco, and after 48 hours up to CA$800, according to its declaration page. On a same-day trip, everything you bought is subject to duty and taxes, and CBSA has also noted surtaxes on certain US goods since 8 September 2026. Declare it all, keep receipts in one place, and pack purchases where they are easy to show. Our page on duty-free and declarations and the post on duty-free shopping at the Niagara bridges explain the limits in more detail.
A same-day shopping trip works well with the "By the hour" booking mode: the chauffeur stays with the group, moves between the outlets and the mall, and keeps bags in the vehicle between stops.
Flying from Buffalo Niagara International
Many Toronto travellers fly from BUF for US domestic routes. Buffalo's carrier list includes nonstops to cities such as Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Nashville, New York and several Florida airports. The ride from downtown Toronto is about 172 km (107 mi), roughly 2 h 15 before the bridge.
The timing rule is simple: work backwards from your airline's check-in advice, add the drive, then add generous time for the US-bound inspection at the bridge, which nobody can forecast. Your chauffeur drops you at departures. On the way home, flight tracking means the pickup follows your actual landing, and the Canadian inspection happens at the bridge with you in the car. Our Buffalo Niagara airport transfer page and the post on Niagara Falls to Buffalo airport for a US flight cover the timing in detail.

Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rideshare app | about 2 h plus border, if a driver accepts | Surge pricing; many drivers will not cross | One car | Rarely practical cross-border |
| Taxi | about 2 h plus border | Metered long-distance fare, if accepted | Trunk | Not a typical option |
| FlixBus | 2 h 45 minimum | From CA$26.98 (as of 2026), at least 8 trips a day | Hold luggage | Solo travellers, flexible times |
| Amtrak Maple Leaf | timetable-bound | Rail fare | Generous | Rail fans heading downtown |
| Driving yourself | about 2 h plus border | Fuel, Peace Bridge or NFBC toll, parking | Whatever fits | Small groups with a designated driver |
| Private chauffeur | about 2 h plus border | Fixed fare via the booker | Sedan to coach | Game days, shopping groups, flights |
Verdict: for one person heading to downtown Buffalo with a backpack, the bus is honestly fine; FlixBus lists at least eight daily trips from Union Station Bus Terminal. A couple with their own car and no drinking plans can drive. For a group going to a game, a shopping party coming home with full bags, or anyone catching a flight, the pre-booked chauffeur wins: the stadium permit, the bridge choice and the return are settled in advance, and nobody has to drive home tired. See chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare for the wider comparison.
Who this suits
Groups are the heart of this route: supporters' clubs, office outings, bachelor parties and families travelling together to a game, all of whom are better off in one vehicle with one plan. Individuals use it most for BUF flights, where a sedan and a fixed fare beat leaving a car in long-term parking. Couples pair an outlet afternoon with dinner in Buffalo or Niagara-on-the-Lake on the way home. Families use SUVs with child seats for shopping days and airport runs.
Booking it with NiagaraFallsLimo.net in 3 steps
- Enter the trip. Your Toronto address as pickup, and the stadium, mall, outlet centre or BUF terminal as drop-off, with date and time. For flights, add the flight number; for game days, note the game.
- Pick the vehicle. Each class shows its fixed, all-in fare. For outlet days, choose "By the hour" so the car stays with you.
- Add details and pay. Passenger count, bags, child seats and extras, then pay securely. The confirmation comes by email.
Cancellation is counted from the scheduled pickup: no charge at more than 72 hours' notice, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or a no-show.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to drive from Toronto to Buffalo?
About 2 hours for the 160–175 km (99–109 mi) to most Buffalo destinations, before the border. The queue at the Peace Bridge or Lewiston-Queenston Bridge is the unpredictable part, so add a margin for game days, holiday weekends and Friday afternoons.
Which bridge is best from Toronto to Buffalo?
For downtown Buffalo, Highmark Stadium and the southern suburbs, usually the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie. For Buffalo Niagara International and the outlets in Niagara Falls, New York, the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge is often better. A chauffeur checks live wait times and chooses on the day.
Can a limo drop us at Highmark Stadium?
Yes, with planning. The Bills require buses and limousines to hold a Bus & Limo Lot permit bought in advance, and Sprinter vans must park in the Limo Lot with an advance pass. Mention the game when you book so this is arranged before game day.
Is it worth flying out of Buffalo instead of Toronto Pearson?
Sometimes. Buffalo has many US domestic nonstops, and some travellers find better fares or schedules there. Weigh the 2 h 15 drive and the bridge against Pearson's US preclearance, which lets you clear US customs before you fly.
Do I pay duty on outlet shopping if I come back the same day?
The Canada Border Services Agency says personal exemptions do not apply to same-day cross-border shoppers, so duty and taxes can apply to everything you bring back. Exemptions start after 24 hours away (CA$200) and 48 hours (CA$800). Declare all purchases and keep receipts.
Can a group drink in the party bus on the way to the game?
No. There is no drinking in our vehicles, on the way there or back. Ontario's liquor law has no limousine exception and the Niagara Region's vehicle-for-hire by-law forbids it, and we keep the same rule on the New York side of the river. The chauffeur never drinks, and the vehicle is simply your safe ride home.
