We will say it up front, because a ground transport company rarely does: the GO train to Niagara Falls is a sensible choice for plenty of visitors. It is public, predictable when it runs, kind to a solo budget, and kids 12 and under ride free on GO Transit. If you are travelling light and your hotel is close to the station, you may not need us at all.
The trouble starts at both ends of the timetable and at the last few kilometres. The moment to avoid is a familiar one: standing on Bridge Street with a suitcase, realising the Falls are not around the corner. NiagaraFallsLimo.net meets trains there, but this post is mostly about planning so you know your options before you board.
Does the GO train go to Niagara Falls?
Yes. GO Transit runs Lakeshore West service to Niagara Falls GO, at 4267 Bridge Street, seven days a week, with more direct trains on weekends than weekdays. The station is about 5 km from Fallsview, roughly 8–10 minutes by car. NiagaraFallsLimo.net can meet the train at a fixed, pre-booked fare.
The GO train to Niagara Falls on weekends
Weekends are when the train shines. Metrolinx raised weekend Niagara Falls service to eight trips on Saturdays and Sundays from November 1, 2025. In practice that means several direct departures each way across the day, enough to choose a morning or midday train and return in the evening.
The same announcement opened Confederation GO in Hamilton on October 27, 2025. Every Lakeshore West trip serving Niagara Falls now stops there. That helps people from Stoney Creek and east Hamilton, though it adds a stop for everyone else.
GO also promotes combined GO and WEGO tickets bought through Niagara Parks. They bundle the train with Niagara's visitor bus, which matters for the last-mile problem below.
The weekday GO train to Niagara Falls: read the timetable twice
Weekdays are thinner. Direct trains between Toronto and Niagara Falls exist, but they are few and shaped around commuting rather than sightseeing. GO's own weekday trip guidance describes the fallback: when the Niagara train is not available, take the Lakeshore West train to Burlington and transfer to GO Bus Route 12. It runs to the Niagara Falls Bus Terminal, across the road from the GO station.
That connection works, but it changes the trip. You are now on a highway coach for the second half, subject to the same QEW traffic as a car, and the overall journey runs longer than driving. Check the actual times in GO's trip planner for your date; depending on when you travel, a weekday trip may well end on the bus rather than the train.
A few more realities worth knowing:
- Disruptions happen. In spring 2026 a freight derailment near St. Catharines stopped Niagara trains for about ten days, from March 30 to April 10, according to a Clifton Hill visitor update. Any rail line can have a bad week.
- Bikes. GO allows bikes except on weekday rush-hour trains in the peak direction, and Niagara-bound weekday trains carry two bikes per coach.
- Holiday weekends bring full trains. Travelling with a group of six or more and lots of luggage is possible, but not comfortable.
The last-mile problem, measured
Niagara Falls GO shares its building and address with the VIA Rail station, in what GO calls the city's north end. Most visitor hotels are south, near the river and the Falls. Our route checks from the station give:
| From Niagara Falls GO station to | Distance | Usual drive |
|---|---|---|
| Great Wolf Lodge, Victoria Avenue | about 2 km | 3–5 min |
| Clifton Hill hotels | about 3 km | 4–6 min |
| Fallsview hotel strip | about 5.3 km | 8–10 min |
| Table Rock Centre | about 5.9 km | 10–12 min |
| Niagara-on-the-Lake Old Town | about 21 km | 25–30 min |
Three kilometres sounds walkable, and on a dry afternoon with a backpack it can be. With a rolling suitcase, children, or rain coming off the river, it is a long way. And on the way to Fallsview, the last stretch is uphill.
Your options from the platform
WEGO Green Line. Niagara Parks' WEGO visitor bus has a stop at the GO/VIA station on its Green Line, which runs along the river between the Floral Clock area and Rapidsview. On the fall–winter 2026 schedule it runs roughly every 15–30 minutes, with last buses around 8–9 p.m. depending on the month. To reach the Fallsview hotels you usually transfer to the Blue Line at Table Rock. Our WEGO guide explains the network.
Niagara Region Transit. Local and regional buses serve the downtown area near the station; check Niagara Region Transit for routes and times on your date.
Taxi or rideshare. Both can work. At a small station where many passengers step off one train at once, the first few cars go quickly, and late arrivals may wait. We cover this in avoiding the taxi line at the train station.
A pre-booked chauffeur. Train arrivals are tracked, so if your GO train runs late the pickup moves with it. The car is outside when you step off, already holding your hotel address. Our train station transfer service handles Niagara Falls, St. Catharines and the Amtrak station across the river.

When the train does not suit the trip
A few situations push most travellers away from GO:
- Arrivals from Toronto Pearson. There is no direct train from the airport to Niagara. You would ride UP Express to Union and then GO, with luggage, across two systems.
- Late returns. If you want dinner and the fireworks and then a ride back to Toronto, check the last train first. A chauffeured return to Toronto is about 128 km, usually 1 h 30 – 1 h 40 at night.
- Wine country. No GO train goes to Niagara-on-the-Lake's wineries. Our Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake route shows the road options.
- Groups of five or more with bags. Several fares plus a taxi at each end often adds up to more effort than one SUV door to door.
For the full set of rail and coach choices, our guide to getting to Niagara by train and bus compares GO, VIA, Amtrak and intercity buses side by side.
Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Option | Door-to-door time, Union Station to Fallsview | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GO train, then WEGO or a short ride | timetable run plus 10–30 min at the far end | GO fare as posted; kids 12 and under free | what you can carry on | solo travellers, light packers, weekends |
| GO train to Burlington plus Route 12 bus | longer than the drive; check GO's planner | GO fare as posted | carry-on and a modest bag | weekday budget trips |
| Rideshare from Toronto | about 1 h 30 – 1 h 45 off-peak | surge pricing | depends on the car | short-notice solo trips |
| Taxi from Toronto | similar drive | metered or company flat rate | standard trunk | one-off rides |
| Pre-booked chauffeur door to door | about 1 h 30 – 1 h 45 off-peak; 2 h+ summer Fridays | fixed fare via booker | sized to the class booked | families, groups, Pearson arrivals, late returns |
| Chauffeur from the GO station only | train plus 8–12 min | fixed fare via booker | luggage handled at the platform | train fans who hate the last mile |
Our verdict: if you are one or two people with backpacks, staying near Clifton Hill, on a weekend, take the GO train and use WEGO. It is a good trip. The pre-booked car makes sense when you are landing at Pearson, travelling on a weekday afternoon, carrying luggage, bringing children in car seats, or heading on to wine country. It also covers any late night when the last bus has gone. A short station pickup is the middle ground: let the train do the long stretch and have a car do the last 5 km. Our Toronto to Niagara Falls route page covers the door-to-door road option in detail.
Booking it with NiagaraFallsLimo.net in 3 steps
- Enter the station and the train. Pickup is Niagara Falls GO/VIA station, 4267 Bridge Street; drop-off is your hotel. Add the date and your train's scheduled arrival so it can be tracked.
- Pick the vehicle. A Standard Sedan for up to three with two large bags, a Standard SUV for up to six, or an Executive Sprinter for a group of up to 12 with carry-ons. Each class shows its fixed fare first.
- Add details and pay. Passengers, bags, child seats, meet & greet on the platform side. Payment is secure, and the booking confirmation lands in your inbox.
Who it suits
Individuals: the GO train alone often does the job; book a car only for a late or rainy arrival. Our page for individual travellers covers solo trips. Couples: train out on a Saturday morning, car from the station to a Fallsview hotel, train home on Sunday. Families: the free child fare is a real saving; a car seat booked from the station removes the hardest stretch. Groups: past five people with bags, a direct Executive Sprinter from Toronto is usually less work than a carriage full of luggage.

Frequently asked questions
How many GO trains go to Niagara Falls on weekends?
Metrolinx increased weekend Niagara Falls service to eight trips on Saturdays and Sundays from November 1, 2025, counting both directions. Always check GO Transit's schedule for your exact date, because holiday and special-event timetables change.
Is there a weekday GO train to Niagara Falls?
Yes, but direct weekday trains are limited. When the Niagara train is not available, GO advises riding the Lakeshore West line to Burlington and transferring to GO Bus Route 12. It stops at the Niagara Falls Bus Terminal, across from the GO station.
Is the Niagara Falls GO station within walking distance of the Falls?
The station on Bridge Street is about 5–6 km by road from Fallsview and Table Rock, usually 8–12 minutes by car. Clifton Hill is about 3 km. Walking is possible but long with luggage, and the route to Fallsview climbs.
Does WEGO stop at the Niagara Falls GO station?
Yes. The WEGO Green Line has a stop at the GO/VIA station. On the fall–winter schedule the last buses run around 8–9 p.m. depending on the month, and you usually transfer at Table Rock for Fallsview hotels.
Can I take the GO train from Toronto Pearson to Niagara Falls?
Not directly. You would ride UP Express from the airport to Union Station, then connect to GO. With luggage and a long flight behind you, many travellers prefer a direct car. Pearson to Fallsview is about 120 km, usually 1 h 30 – 1 h 40 off-peak.
How much is a car from the GO station to my hotel?
The online booker shows the fixed all-in fare for the station pickup, your hotel and the vehicle you choose, before you pay. Train arrivals are tracked, so a late train does not mean a missed pickup.
Do children ride the GO train to Niagara Falls for free?
Yes. GO Transit states that kids 12 and under always travel free. For a family of four, that saving is bigger than it first looks. The remaining challenge is the station-to-hotel stretch with children and bags, which a pre-booked car with child seats solves in about ten minutes.
What if I miss the last GO train back to Toronto?
Check the evening departures for your date before you plan dinner and the fireworks, since weekend and weekday timetables differ. If you miss it, a chauffeured ride from Niagara Falls to downtown Toronto is about 128 km, usually 1 h 30 – 1 h 40 at night, booked online at a fixed fare.
