Weekend GO Train to Niagara Falls: Seasonal Service and Station Transfers

The weekend GO train to Niagara Falls is no longer a summer-only treat. It runs all year, eight trips a day on Saturdays and Sundays, but some of what makes it easy, from bike coaches to the Niagara-on-the-Lake shuttle, still comes and goes with the seasons.

Ask a Torontonian of a certain age about the train to Niagara Falls and you may hear that it only runs on summer weekends. That used to be roughly true. It is not any more. GO Transit now says plainly that it serves Niagara Falls all year round, and the weekend timetable was expanded in late 2025. What remains seasonal is everything around the train: bike coaches, the shuttle to Niagara-on-the-Lake, the boats and some attractions. This post untangles the Toronto to Niagara Falls train schedule on weekends, and what to do once you step off at the other end.

Does the GO train run to Niagara Falls on weekends?

Yes. Metrolinx says eight GO trips serve Niagara Falls on both Saturdays and Sundays, all year, from Union Station via Confederation GO. Niagara Falls GO is about 4 km from the falls. NiagaraFallsLimo.net meets weekend trains at 4267 Bridge Street for the 4–6 km ride to Fallsview or Clifton Hill, at a fixed fare shown in the booker.

That answer has two halves for a reason. The train itself is straightforward. The last few kilometres are where weekend visitors lose time, especially with children, luggage or a hotel check-in to make.

The Toronto to Niagara Falls train schedule on a weekend

The essentials, from GO Transit and Metrolinx announcements:

  • Eight trips each weekend day. Beginning November 1, 2025, Metrolinx increased weekend service to Niagara Falls to eight trips on Saturdays and Sundays. Weekend service is now the same on both days. A Clifton Hill update describes the pattern as four trains each way.
  • A new stop. All Lakeshore West trains serving Niagara Falls now call at Confederation GO in Hamilton, which opened in October 2025.
  • Year-round. GO's weekend Niagara page says you can take the train "all year".
  • Running time. The weekend trips we checked take a little under two and a half hours from Union to Niagara Falls.
  • Holiday Mondays. Weekend-style service also runs on select holiday Mondays; check the timetable for the specific long weekend.

One caution that applies every weekend: GO warns that construction or planned track work may affect service. Weekend track work is common on busy rail corridors, and the Niagara line was interrupted in spring 2026, when a CN freight derailment near St. Catharines on March 30 stopped trains until service resumed on April 10. Check the live schedule on the morning you travel.

The Metrolinx announcement of the expanded weekend service is the source for the eight-trip figure.

What is still seasonal around the train

The train runs in January as it does in July. These things do not:

  • Bike coaches. GO runs bike coaches, marked with a bicycle image on the outside, on all weekend Niagara Falls trips and through the summer months. On weekdays, Niagara-bound trains take two bikes per coach, and none in the rush-hour peak direction.
  • The Niagara-on-the-Lake shuttle. The WEGO shuttle to Niagara-on-the-Lake runs from spring to the end of October. GO says that from April 6, 2026, its combo tickets include it.
  • The boats and some attractions. Niagara City Cruises runs April to November, and several Niagara Parks attractions keep seasonal hours. Our page on Niagara City Cruises has the details.
  • Evening light. A summer weekend gives you light until well after the last train you would want; in November it is dark before dinner, and the walk from the station is less appealing.

GO+WEGO combo tickets

GO and Niagara Parks sell combined tickets: GO travel plus unlimited rides on WEGO, the hop-on, hop-off visitor bus around the falls. As of 2026, GO lists a 1 Day Travel Package at CA$22 for an adult (GO train plus a WEGO day pass) and a 2 Day Travel Package at CA$35 for an adult (GO train plus a 48-hour WEGO pass). Children 12 and under ride GO free.

For a single traveller or a couple on a day trip, this is good value and worth buying. WEGO's Green Line calls at the Niagara Falls GO/VIA station and runs south along the river to Table Rock Centre, at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls, where it meets the Blue Line for the Fallsview and Clifton Hill hotels.

Stepping off at Niagara Falls GO

The station sits at 4267 Bridge Street, in the north end of the city, shared with VIA Rail. What to expect, from the GO station page:

  • It is not staffed. There is no ticket office or help desk on the platform.
  • No free customer parking. Relevant if someone is meeting you by car.
  • Bike racks are provided.
  • The Niagara Falls Bus Terminal on Erie Avenue is across the street, where GO Bus route 12 and intercity coaches stop.

Distances from the station, by our route planner: about 3 km (2 mi) to Clifton Hill, about 4.5 km (3 mi) to the Fallsview hotels, and about 6 km (4 mi) to Table Rock Centre. By car those are 4 to 10 minutes. On foot, Clifton Hill is roughly 40 minutes; Fallsview is uphill and further.

Book a pickup at Niagara Falls GO

The last mile: four ways to cover it

  1. WEGO Green Line. The best choice for light travellers in daylight, especially with a combo ticket. You ride to Table Rock and transfer to the Blue Line if your hotel is up on Fallsview Boulevard. Buses run frequently in the day; the fall and winter schedule thins out in the evening.
  2. Walking. Fine for a fit adult with a daypack on a dry day. Less fine with a roller bag, a toddler or a 7 p.m. dinner booking.
  3. A taxi or rideshare. Usually available, but when a full weekend train empties at once, you may be in a queue of people who all had the same idea. Our journal post on train station pickups and avoiding the taxi line explains the pattern.
  4. A pre-booked car. The chauffeur knows the train number, watches the arrival and is there when you come off the platform. It is the obvious choice for the short hop to Clifton Hill or your hotel when you are checking in with luggage, travelling with children, or heading somewhere WEGO does not go, such as a winery or a Niagara-on-the-Lake inn.

For Niagara-on-the-Lake, the station is about 21 km (13 mi) from the Old Town, usually about 26 minutes by car along the Niagara Parkway.

Planning the return train

The most common mistake we see on GO weekends is treating the last train as a plan rather than a deadline. With four departures toward Toronto across a whole day, missing one can mean a long wait for the next, or no next train at all.

Three habits help:

  • Work back from the departure. Leave Clifton Hill or Table Rock with at least 30 minutes to spare if you are relying on WEGO or walking.
  • Know the WEGO evening frequency. Later in the day, the buses come less often. A 20 or 30-minute gap can be the difference between catching and missing a train.
  • Have a fallback. Some visitors ride GO in the morning and book a car back to Toronto in the evening, so that dinner at the falls does not end with a sprint for the station. The drive from Fallsview to downtown Toronto is about 129 km (80 mi), usually 1 h 30 – 1 h 45 on a Sunday evening without incidents.

Our guide to getting to Niagara by train and bus covers the return options in more detail.

Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip

This table compares ways of covering the station-to-hotel leg, and the whole day where it matters.

Private chauffeur4–10 min, waiting at arrivalFixed fare via bookerMatched to vehicle classFamilies, luggage, wineries, evening returns

The verdict. For a day trip with a combo ticket and a small bag, use WEGO: it is designed for exactly this, and we would not talk you out of it. A taxi is fine if one happens to be free when you arrive. A pre-booked car wins when you are checking into a Fallsview hotel with suitcases, travelling with children in car seats, arriving on a busy train when the taxi rank empties, heading to wine country, or needing a guaranteed ride back to catch the last train.

Who it suits

Individuals on a weekend day trip are the GO train's natural audience, and most will not need us at all. Couples arriving for an overnight stay often take the train in and book the short ride to the hotel, so they arrive at the lobby rather than on foot. Families benefit most from a booked car: children ride GO free, but car seats, strollers and a 40-minute walk do not mix, and our page for families covers child seats. Groups of up to six fit one SUV for the station leg, and an Executive Sprinter takes up to twelve with carry-on bags only.

Frequently asked questions

Does the GO train go to Niagara Falls on weekdays?

Yes, GO advertises service seven days a week to Niagara Falls. Weekdays have fewer direct trains than weekends. When no direct train runs, GO suggests the Lakeshore West train to Burlington and a transfer to GO Bus route 12, which stops at the Niagara Falls Bus Terminal across the street from the train station.

How many GO trains go to Niagara Falls on Saturday?

Metrolinx says eight trips serve Niagara Falls on Saturdays and on Sundays, a level introduced on November 1, 2025. A Clifton Hill update describes that as four trains each way. Saturday and Sunday now have the same service level. Check the current timetable, as track work can change individual trips.

Is the Niagara Falls GO train seasonal?

The train itself runs year-round. What is seasonal is the extras: bike coaches on weekend trips and through the summer, the WEGO shuttle to Niagara-on-the-Lake from spring to the end of October, and attractions such as Niagara City Cruises, which runs April to November.

How far is the Niagara Falls GO station from the falls?

About 4 km. By our route planner it is about 3 km to Clifton Hill and about 4.5 km to the Fallsview hotels, 4 to 7 minutes by car. The WEGO Green Line stops at the station and runs to Table Rock Centre at the Horseshoe Falls.

Can I bring my bike on the weekend GO train to Niagara Falls?

Yes. GO runs bike coaches, marked with a bicycle image outside, on all weekend Niagara Falls trips and through the summer. On weekdays Niagara-bound trains take two bikes per coach, and bikes are not allowed in the peak direction at rush hour.

Will my chauffeur wait if the GO train is late?

Yes. Enter the train time or number when you book, and the reservations desk tracks the arrival as it does for flights. Your chauffeur adjusts to the actual arrival rather than the scheduled one.

How much is a car from Niagara Falls GO to my hotel?

The online booker quotes a fixed all-in fare for the station, your drop-off and the vehicle you pick, before checkout. The fare is for the whole vehicle, not per person.
