The call usually comes a week or two before the holiday. "We are fourteen people, three of them over seventy, two in car seats, and my uncle has never seen Niagara." Festival holidays are when extended families gather, and a trip to the Falls is one of the outings that suits every generation: something spectacular for the visitors from overseas, easy walking for the grandparents, lights and sweets for the children.

These Niagara Falls holiday visits have their own logistics. Diwali falls in autumn, Lunar New Year in winter and Eid moves through the calendar, so the Falls look different each time. This post covers what to expect in each season, the dates of the next celebrations, and how NiagaraFallsLimo.net moves large families from the Toronto region in one or two vehicles instead of a convoy of cars.

What is the best way to take a large family to Niagara Falls for a festival holiday?

Book one large vehicle, an Executive Sprinter for up to 12 or a Stretch SUV Limousine for up to 16, with multiple pickups. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives Brampton to Niagara Falls, about 124 km (77 mi), around 1 h 35 off-peak, with child seats and wheelchair options. The booker shows a fixed fare before payment.

One vehicle means one driver who knows the drop-off points, nobody looking for parking near the Falls, and everyone arriving together. It also means the elders can rest on the way home after a long day, and nobody has to drive at night.

The next dates, and what the Falls look like then

CelebrationNext dateSeason at the Falls
DiwaliSunday, November 8, 2026Late autumn; Falls lit from 4:30 pm; Winter Festival of Lights from November 14
Lunar New YearSaturday, February 6, 2027Winter; frozen spray at the brink; Falls lit from 5:30 pm
Eid al-FitrExpected around March 9–10, 2027Late winter; boats not yet running; Falls lit from 5:30 pm, 7:30 pm from March 12
Eid al-AdhaExpected in mid-May 2027Spring; boats usually running; fireworks season usually under way

Eid dates depend on the sighting of the moon, so families usually confirm the day only shortly before. Our advice is to hold a booking for the likeliest date and confirm once the date is announced. The cancellation terms are on every confirmation: cancelling with more than 72 hours' notice before pickup carries no charge.

The illumination times come from Niagara Parks' illumination schedule, which also has a special illumination calendar of dated colour lightings.

Diwali at the Falls: lights in late autumn

Diwali is the festival of lights, and Niagara has marked it. In 2022, Niagara Parks announced that the Niagara Falls Illumination Board would light the Falls in gold for Diwali, from 10:00 to 10:15 pm on October 24 of that year, according to its news release. Special lightings are decided year by year, so check the special illumination calendar close to the date rather than assuming a repeat.

What is certain in November is that the Falls are lit every evening from 4:30 pm, early enough for children to see them before dinner. The nightly summer fireworks have finished by then, but the Winter Festival of Lights begins on November 14, 2026, six days after Diwali, with displays along the Parkway, Fallsview and Lundy's Lane lit nightly from 5 pm to midnight, according to the festival site. Families visiting the weekend after Diwali get both. Our Winter Festival of Lights page describes the route.

November evenings are cold, with average lows just above freezing, so bring warm layers for the elders and plan a warm indoor stop.

Lunar New Year: a winter outing

Lunar New Year 2027 falls on Saturday, February 6. February at Niagara is quiet and cold, with average daily highs only just above freezing, and the spray from the Horseshoe Falls freezes on railings and trees near Table Rock. For visiting relatives who have seen the Falls only in summer photographs, the ice is a surprise.

A good Lunar New Year family day leans on the year-round indoor attractions: Journey Behind the Falls, the Niagara Parks Power Station and the Butterfly Conservatory. Clifton Hill keeps many indoor attractions open, and the Niagara SkyWheel runs all year in climate-controlled gondolas. Our post on Chinese visitors planning with a private driver has more ideas for families travelling with relatives from abroad.

For families coming from Markham or Richmond Hill, the trip is longer: Markham to the Fallsview hotels is about 155 km (97 mi), roughly 1 h 55 off-peak, and many drivers use the 407 ETR toll highway, which bills by distance. The post on Markham and Richmond Hill to the Falls explains the route choices.

Eid visits: late winter or spring

Eid al-Fitr is expected around March 9–10, 2027, and Eid al-Adha in mid-May 2027. The two are quite different trips.

A March Eid looks much like a winter visit: the boats are not yet running, the ice may still be on the river, and the indoor attractions carry the day. Niagara Parks' schedule moves the illumination to 7:30 pm from March 12, so a later evening view is possible.

A May Eid is spring at its best: the gardens are planted, the seasonal attractions are usually open, and in 2026 the nightly 10 pm fireworks began on May 15. It is also a busy period, especially near the Victoria Day long weekend later in May, so book early.

Families looking for halal food and a place to pray during the day will find our post on halal food and prayer at Niagara useful.

Moving a big family: vehicles, seats and stops

The vehicle is the most important decision. From our booker:

  • Standard SUV or Executive Black SUV: up to six passengers with six bags.
  • Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz): up to twelve passengers, carry-on bags only.
  • Stretch SUV Limousine: up to sixteen passengers with minimal luggage, availability confirmed at booking.
  • Coaches: available on request for larger groups.

Our stretch limo and Sprinter page compares the larger vehicles, and the group transportation page explains coach options.

A few planning notes the desk always raises with festival families:

  1. Multiple pickups. Relatives often live in different parts of the city. The booker handles multi-stop trips, so the vehicle can collect from two or three homes in Brampton, Mississauga or Scarborough before heading south. Brampton to Niagara Falls is about 124 km (77 mi), around 1 h 35 off-peak; our post on Brampton families heading to the Falls covers stops and seating.
  2. Child seats. The booker offers child, toddler and booster seats. Ontario's rules on car seats apply by age and weight, so tell us each child's age when booking.
  3. Mobility. A wheelchair option is in the booker. For grandparents who walk slowly, the car can drop at Table Rock and collect at the same spot, so nobody walks the hill.
  4. Visiting relatives. Visitors from abroad who want to see the US side need their own passports and any visa the US requires. Our international visitors guide explains entry rules for each direction. If children are crossing with grandparents, aunts or uncles rather than both parents, Global Affairs Canada recommends carrying a consent letter signed by the parents who are not travelling.

A sample festival day for twelve

A family of twelve from Brampton and Mississauga, visiting the weekend after Diwali, might plan the day like this: an Executive Sprinter collects from two homes at 1 pm, reaches the Falls around 2:45, and drops everyone at Table Rock. The afternoon is the brink, the tunnels behind the Falls and a hot drink indoors. The Falls light up at 4:30, dinner is booked for 5:30, and from 7 pm the Sprinter drives slowly through the Winter Festival of Lights before heading home, with everyone back by 10.

Booking it with NiagaraFallsLimo.net in 3 steps

  1. Enter the route. Add each family home as a pickup, Niagara Falls as the destination, the date and a start time. For a full day of stops, choose "By the hour".
  2. Choose the size. Each vehicle class shows its fixed fare; pick the one that seats everyone with room for coats and a stroller.
  3. Add seats and needs, then pay. Child seats, wheelchair option, notes about elders or a planned restaurant stop. Pay securely, and watch for the emailed confirmation.

The honest verdict: a household of four with its own car and confident drivers can do the trip perfectly well, and a taxi is fine for a short hop inside Niagara Falls. For three generations travelling together, though, one large vehicle with one professional driver is calmer, safer at night and usually simpler than coordinating three cars and three parking lots.

Who festival-season visits suit

Families are at the heart of these trips, and our families page covers seats and sizes. Groups of friends celebrating together can book a Sprinter for the evening lights. Couples marking the holiday quietly might prefer the Falls lit at dusk and dinner with a view. Individuals hosting relatives from abroad will find the day far easier when someone else handles the driving, and our fireworks and illumination guide helps you choose the best evening.

Frequently asked questions

When is Diwali in 2026?

Diwali falls on Sunday, November 8, 2026. At Niagara Falls the illumination starts at 4:30 pm in November, and the Winter Festival of Lights begins on November 14, 2026, so the weekend after Diwali offers both.

Is Niagara Falls lit up for Diwali?

It has been. In 2022 Niagara Parks announced the Falls would be lit gold for Diwali from 10:00 to 10:15 pm on October 24. Special lightings are decided each year, so check the Niagara Parks special illumination calendar close to the date.

When is Lunar New Year 2027?

Lunar New Year falls on Saturday, February 6, 2027. It is a winter visit: frozen spray near the brink, the Falls lit from 5:30 pm in February, and indoor attractions such as Journey Behind the Falls and the Butterfly Conservatory open.

How many people fit in your largest vehicle?

The Stretch SUV Limousine seats up to sixteen with minimal luggage, availability confirmed at booking. An Executive Sprinter seats up to twelve with carry-on bags. Coaches are available on request for larger family groups.

Can the vehicle pick up relatives from several homes?

Yes. The booker supports multi-stop trips, so one vehicle can collect family members from two or three addresses in the Toronto region before driving to Niagara Falls, and drop them back at each home at the end of the day.

What if the Eid date changes after I book?

Eid dates depend on the moon, so families often hold the likeliest day. Cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup carries no charge; at 72 hours or less, 10% applies, rising to 50% at 48 hours and 100% at 24 hours or a no-show.

Do you provide child seats for a big family trip?

Yes. The booker lets you add child, toddler or booster seats for each young passenger. Tell us each child's age when you book so the right seats are fitted before pickup.
