Every year the same calls reach our reservations desk in April: a son in Mississauga, a daughter flying in from Calgary, three siblings trying to coordinate one table for nine. Mothers Day Niagara plans tend to follow a pattern, because the region offers a near-perfect version of the day within a few kilometres of road: a Sunday brunch above the river, a garden walk, a glass of local wine and a slow drive home along the Niagara Parkway.
The difficult parts are the ones nobody thinks about until Sunday morning: brunch reservations that vanished weeks ago, parking at the gardens, and who drives after the wine. NiagaraFallsLimo.net handles the last two. This post helps with the first.
Where should we take Mom for Mother's Day in Niagara?
A strong Mother's Day plan is Sunday brunch at Niagara Parks' Queenston Heights Restaurant, about 12 km (7 mi) north of the Horseshoe Falls, then the Botanical Gardens and Butterfly Conservatory and one gentle winery on the Niagara Parkway. NiagaraFallsLimo.net links every stop by the hour; book online at a fixed fare.
The whole loop, from a Fallsview hotel to Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake and back, is about 50 km of mostly parkway driving. It suits three generations in one vehicle, which is often the point.
Mother's Day 2027 is Sunday, May 9
In Canada and the United States, Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May. In 2027 that is May 9, two weeks before the Victoria Day long weekend. A reasonable timeline:
- Early April: reserve brunch. Popular rooms with a view fill well ahead.
- Mid April: book the car. Larger vehicles, such as an Executive Sprinter for a family of ten, are the first to go on holiday weekends.
- The week before: confirm winery visits if your group is six or more; it is wise to ask ahead for larger parties.
A gentle Parkway route, south to north
This route runs the right way along the Niagara Parkway so the car never doubles back. Distances are by road; times are typical for a Sunday morning.
- 9:30 am – Fallsview hotel pickup. Bags, strollers and any mobility aids go in once.
- 9:45 am – Botanical Gardens and Butterfly Conservatory, about 10 km (6 mi) north of Table Rock, 15 to 20 minutes. Niagara Parks describes the Botanical Gardens as 99 acres designed by students of its School of Horticulture. The conservatory inside holds more than 3,000 butterflies in an 11,000 sq ft glasshouse, open year-round.
- 10:50 am – The Floral Clock, a short drive further north. Its face is 40 ft across, holds up to 16,000 plants and is replanted twice a year, with Westminster chimes every quarter hour, per Niagara Parks. It is a photo stop of ten minutes, not an hour.
- 11:15 am – Brunch at Queenston Heights Restaurant, 14184 Niagara Parkway, about 4 km (2.5 mi) from the gardens.
- 1:15 pm – Queenston village, just below the Heights, for the Laura Secord Homestead, which Niagara Parks opens from May to October.
- 2:00 pm – one winery on the Parkway, between Queenston and Old Town.
- 3:30 pm – Queen Street, Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake, about 13 km (8 mi) from Queenston Heights, for a stroll and an ice cream.
- 5:00 pm – return to Fallsview, about 24 km (15 mi), usually 25 to 30 minutes.
If you are coming from Toronto for the day, add about 130 km (80 mi) each way, usually 1 h 30 – 1 h 45 on a Sunday morning; begin with the gardens at 10:30 and move every stop back an hour. Our Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake route shows the main roads.

Brunch options worth reserving
Queenston Heights Restaurant (Niagara Parks). Set in Queenston Heights Park above the river, it serves a Sunday brunch from 11 am to 2 pm in season; the brunch reopened on April 5 in 2026, according to the Niagara Parks brunch listing. Reservations are taken online or by phone, and on Mother's Day they are essential. After brunch, Brock's Monument and the Landscape of Nations memorial are a short walk across the lawn. The Friends of Fort George run monument tours on weekends in May and June; 235 steps lead to the top, so most families admire it from the base and leave the climb to the energetic.
Silversmith Brewing Company, Virgil. For families who prefer something less formal, Silversmith pours its beer in a church building dating to the 1890s at 1523 Niagara Stone Road, and serves Sunday brunch from 11:30 am to 3 pm, per its own site. It is about 18 km (11 mi) from Fallsview and fits a route that ends in Old Town.
Hotels and winery restaurants. Several Niagara-on-the-Lake hotels and winery restaurants run special menus on Mother's Day, but offerings change year to year. Check each venue's own site in March or April. Our guide to Niagara-on-the-Lake restaurants is a good place to start, and the sibling post on booking a winery lunch around your tastings explains the timing.
The gardens in early May
Early May is a quiet, green moment along the Parkway. The Niagara Glen and Botanical Gardens are close together, so one stop covers both a garden walk and a warm glasshouse. Inside the Butterfly Conservatory, it is warm whatever the weather outside, which matters on a cool May morning.
Back near the falls, the Floral Showhouse, a short walk south of the Horseshoe Falls, is a year-round glasshouse with seasonal displays. If brunch is in Fallsview instead, it makes an easy second garden stop. Our sibling post on the Butterfly Conservatory and Floral Clock covers both in more depth.
Gentle wine stops
Not every mother wants a full tasting day. One or two calm stops, a single flight each, is often the right amount. Two wineries sit directly on the Parkway route north of Queenston:
- Reif Estate Winery, 15608 Niagara Parkway.
- Inniskillin, at Line 3 and the Niagara Parkway, which received Ontario's first post-Prohibition winery licence in 1975, per Wine Country Ontario.
Closer to Old Town, Two Sisters Vineyards and Peller Estates sit on John Street East. The full map is on our Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries page.
The rule in every NiagaraFallsLimo.net vehicle: no drinking in the car. Niagara Region's vehicle-for-hire by-law forbids it, and the reason to book a chauffeur on a wine day is that nobody drives after tasting. If you want a bottle as a gift, our booker can add a sealed bottle to take away, and wine you buy at the winery travels sealed in the trunk.
Making the day easy for every generation
Mother's Day groups often include a grandmother with limited mobility, a new mother with a baby, or both.
- Mobility. The booker includes a wheelchair option; tell us about any mobility aid when you book. Our accessible transportation page explains what to expect.
- Babies and toddlers. Child, toddler and booster seats are booker options, installed before pickup.
- Short walks. The chauffeur sets you down at each entrance and waits nearby, so nobody walks across a parking lot.
- Pace. Build in a sit-down every hour. The route above has one built in at each stop.
Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Space | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WEGO bus | Slow; transfers at the Floral Clock for the NOTL shuttle | WEGO 24-hour adult pass $16 (as of 2026) | Seats only | Couples comfortable with transfers |
| Rideshare | Fine for one leg; waits between rural stops | Surge pricing on holiday Sundays | One standard car per four people | A single ride to brunch |
| Taxi | Similar to rideshare | Metered | One standard car | Short hops near the falls |
| Driving yourself | Quick, but parking at each stop | Parking fees | Your car | Families with a non-drinking driver |
| Private chauffeur by the hour | Car waits at every stop | Fixed fare via booker | SUV or Sprinter for the whole family | Three generations, wine stops, mobility needs |
The honest verdict: if it is just the two of you and brunch is the whole plan, a taxi or rideshare to Queenston Heights and back is perfectly reasonable. Once the day includes several stops, children's car seats, a grandmother who should not walk far, or a glass of wine for whoever would otherwise drive, a booked car with one vehicle for the whole family is simpler.
Booking it with NiagaraFallsLimo.net in 3 steps
- Choose "By the hour" and enter the pickup: a Fallsview hotel, a Toronto address or a Niagara-on-the-Lake inn, with Sunday's date and start time.
- Choose a vehicle. A Standard SUV seats up to six; an Executive Sprinter up to twelve for the whole extended family. Each class shows its fixed fare.
- Add the extras. Child seats, wheelchair option, a sealed bottle as a gift to take away. Pay securely; the confirmation arrives by email.
New to booking a chauffeur? Our how to book a limo guide walks through it, and the private chauffeur service page explains what the driver does and does not do.

Who this plan suits
Families are the obvious fit, especially multi-generation ones; our families page has more on travelling with children. Couples can shorten it to brunch, the Floral Clock and one winery. Groups of adult siblings treating their mother often book a Sprinter so everyone arrives together. Individuals treating their mother to a quieter day may prefer a Mercedes-Benz E or S-Class for two. The companion post for June is Father's Day in Niagara, and the Laura Secord Homestead and Queenston village post covers the stop after brunch.
Frequently asked questions
When is Mother's Day 2027?
Sunday, May 9, 2027. In Canada and the United States, Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May. Book brunch several weeks ahead, as restaurants with views of the Niagara River and the falls fill early for that weekend.
Where is the best Mother's Day brunch near Niagara Falls?
Queenston Heights Restaurant, run by Niagara Parks, serves Sunday brunch from 11 am to 2 pm in season in a park above the river, about 12 km north of the Horseshoe Falls. Silversmith Brewing in Virgil serves a more casual Sunday brunch. Reserve early for either.
Are the Niagara Parks gardens open on Mother's Day?
The Botanical Gardens and Butterfly Conservatory are open year-round, and the Floral Clock is on the Parkway at all times. The Laura Secord Homestead opens seasonally from May to October. Check Niagara Parks for hours on the day.
Can we have wine with brunch and still visit wineries?
Yes, as long as nobody in your group drives. With a chauffeur, the family can taste at one or two wineries after brunch. There is no drinking inside the vehicle; bottles you buy travel sealed in the trunk.
Is a chauffeur suitable for an elderly mother with a walker?
Yes. Tell us about the walker or wheelchair when you book; the booker includes a wheelchair option. The chauffeur sets you down at each entrance and waits nearby, so walking distances stay short throughout the day.
How far is Queenston Heights from Niagara Falls?
About 12 km (7 mi) north of Table Rock along the Niagara Parkway, usually 15 to 20 minutes by car. Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake is a further 13 km (8 mi) north, roughly 15 to 20 minutes.
Can we add a gift to the car?
The booker lets you add a sealed bottle as a gift to take away. It stays sealed in the vehicle; there is no drinking on board. Flowers and other gifts can travel with you as luggage.
What if it rains on Mother's Day?
Swap the order. Start with the Butterfly Conservatory and the Floral Showhouse, both glasshouses open year-round, keep brunch at its reserved time, and choose a winery with an indoor tasting room for the afternoon. A chauffeur sets you down at each door, so a wet day costs very little.
