In mid-March the Niagara River is usually still edged with ice, the boats have not started, and the parkway gardens are bare. Yet March Break in Niagara Falls is one of the busiest family weeks of the year. The reason is simple: two large indoor waterpark resorts, a cluster of year-round Niagara Parks attractions and a street of arcades, all within about four kilometres of each other, and an easy drive from Toronto. The difficulty is equally simple. Everyone has the same week off.
NiagaraFallsLimo.net moves families between the airports, the GTA and the waterpark hotels all through the break. These are the plans that work.
When is March Break 2027, and how busy is Niagara Falls?
Ontario's March Break 2027 runs from Monday, March 15 to Friday, March 19, and all schools are closed. Niagara Falls is about 121 km (75 mi) from Toronto Pearson, usually 1 h 20 – 1 h 40 off-peak. NiagaraFallsLimo.net books family transfers with child seats at a fixed fare shown before you pay.
The dates come from the province's school year calendar, which states that the break runs Monday, March 15 to Friday, March 19, 2027. With the weekends on either side, most families travel between Saturday, March 13 and Sunday, March 21. The two Saturdays and the Sunday at the end are the busiest days on the roads and at hotel check-in desks.
Visitors from the United States should know that American spring breaks are set district by district and often fall in different weeks. If your dates are flexible, a week either side of Ontario's break is noticeably calmer.
The indoor list
Everything here is open in March, and all of it is under a roof.
- The Butterfly Conservatory. More than 2,000 butterflies in a glass-enclosed rainforest inside the Botanical Gardens. Niagara Parks marked its 30th anniversary in 2026.
- The Niagara Parks Power Station. A glass-panelled elevator descends 180 ft to a tunnel dug in 1901 that ends at a platform beside the river, with hands-on exhibits upstairs. Niagara Parks promoted it as open daily during the 2026 break, with evening programming too.
- Niagara Takes Flight. Ontario's first flying theatre, inside Table Rock Centre. Riders must be at least 100 cm tall, and the full experience takes about 35 minutes.
- Journey Behind the Falls. Tunnels 125 ft down to portals behind the Horseshoe Falls, open all year.
- The Orchid Show at the Floral Showhouse. It opened on March 7 in 2026 with more than 1,700 orchids.
- Bird Kingdom. It bills itself as the world's largest free-flying indoor aviary, a five-minute walk from the Falls.
- Clifton Hill. Arcades, a wax museum, dark rides and the Niagara SkyWheel, whose climate-controlled gondolas run all year. Our Clifton Hill page covers the street.
Niagara Parks' 2026 March Break announcement also mentioned a green illumination of the Falls at the top of each hour on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, which falls on the Wednesday of the 2027 break. For a rainy afternoon in reserve, our post on Bird Kingdom and rainy-day attractions by car has more ideas.
The two waterpark resorts
Great Wolf Lodge
Great Wolf Lodge is at 3950 Victoria Avenue, north of the tourist core. Its indoor waterpark covers 100,000 sq ft and is kept at 84°F (about 29°C) year-round, with slides for older children, shallow pools for toddlers, a lazy river and hot springs. Access comes with an overnight stay, from opening time on your arrival day until closing on your departure day, according to Great Wolf Lodge Niagara. Parking is not included in the room rate.
That arrival-day rule shapes the transfer. Families who arrive early get a full extra half-day in the water, so a morning pickup from Toronto pays off. Our post on getting to Great Wolf Lodge without driving has more detail.
Fallsview Indoor Waterpark
The waterpark at the Falls Avenue Resort covers three acres and sits within a 20-acre complex of connected hotels at the foot of Clifton Hill, with indoor connections to Casino Niagara and street-level access to the hill, according to the Falls Avenue Resort site. Its hotel packages include multi-day waterpark passes. For larger family groups visiting for the day, read our post on Fallsview Indoor Waterpark day transfers.
The two resorts are about 3.6 km apart, roughly six minutes by car, so families staying at one can still reach the Niagara Parks attractions and Clifton Hill easily.
Book your March Break transfer
Flying in for the break
Families from elsewhere in Canada, and from the US, usually fly into one of two airports.
- Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Niagara Falls is about 121 km (75 mi), usually 1 h 20 – 1 h 40 off-peak. Pre-arranged pickups at Pearson meet at Terminal 1 Door A or Terminal 3 Door A, or inside arrivals with a name board if you add meet and greet. See our Toronto Pearson airport transfers page.
- Buffalo Niagara International (BUF) is about 42 km (26 mi) from Fallsview and 43 km from Great Wolf Lodge, usually around 45 minutes before the border. Every passenger, children included, needs valid documents to enter Canada, and the chauffeur crosses with you. Our Buffalo Niagara airport page explains the crossing.
We track every flight, so a delayed arrival on a busy travel Saturday does not cost you the pickup.
Choosing a vehicle that fits the luggage
This is the most common March Break mistake. A family of six with suitcases needs a vehicle for six people and their bags, not just six seats.
- Standard SUV (Suburban or Yukon XL) or Executive Black SUV (Escalade or Navigator): up to six passengers and six bags. The right choice for most families flying in.
- Standard Sedan: up to three passengers and two large bags. Fine for a parent and two children.
- Executive Sprinter: up to 12 passengers, but carry-on bags only. Ideal for two families heading out for a day of attractions from the hotel; not for an airport run with checked luggage.
- Executive Jet Sprinter: up to six passengers with two bags, for groups who want space more than luggage room.
If two families are travelling together from the airport with full luggage, two SUVs are usually the better plan than one Sprinter.
A three-night March Break plan in Niagara Falls
- Day one. Morning pickup in Toronto or at Pearson, check-in at a waterpark resort, an afternoon in the pools.
- Day two. Butterfly Conservatory in the morning, lunch, the Power Station tunnel in the afternoon. A car by the hour links the stops along the Parkway, which WEGO also serves.
- Day three. Journey Behind the Falls and Niagara Takes Flight at Table Rock, then Clifton Hill in the late afternoon. The Falls are lit from 7:30 p.m. in the second half of March.
- Day four. A last swim, then the ride home.
If you plan to see several Niagara Parks sites, look at the Niagara Falls Wonder Pass before you go. In 2026 it bundled admission to a selection of attractions, including Niagara Takes Flight and the Butterfly Conservatory, with WEGO transport, and each child's pass came with a Niagara Parks Passport for collecting stickers at every stop. Where an attraction sells timed tickets, an early slot is usually the calmer choice during the break.
Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Mode | Door-to-door time from Pearson | Cost note | Luggage and seats | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private chauffeur | About 1 h 20 – 1 h 40, terminal to resort door | Fixed fare via booker | SUVs take six bags; child seats added in the booker | Families flying in, car seats, early arrivals for waterpark time |
| Rideshare | Similar driving time | Surge pricing on busy travel days | Child seats not guaranteed; large luggage may not fit | Couples or teens travelling light |
| Taxi | Similar | Metered | Not required to carry child seats | Local trips between hotels and attractions |
| GO train plus WEGO | Longer; train to Niagara Falls station, then a bus or taxi | GO fare; children 12 and under ride GO free | Strollers fine, suitcases awkward | GTA families on a day trip with little luggage |
| Driving yourself | 1 h 20 – 1 h 40, plus resort parking | Fuel and hotel parking | Whatever fits | GTA families who want their own car all week |
The verdict. GTA families with their own car often drive down, and that is a reasonable choice for a long stay; just budget for resort parking. For a day trip with older children, the GO train to Niagara Falls, where children 12 and under ride free, plus WEGO is excellent value. A taxi between attractions is fine. The pre-booked car is the better answer when you are arriving by air with suitcases and young children, when you need booster seats ready at the curb, or when you want to reach the waterpark by mid-morning on day one. Our chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare guide sets out the trade-offs.

Who March Break suits
Families are the week; our families page covers seats, rest stops and pacing. Groups of two or three families often share the resort and book an Executive Sprinter for an attractions day. Couples without school-age children are usually better off choosing another week. Individuals, such as a grandparent joining the family for a day, can travel from Toronto to meet them at the resort. If you are planning a second break later in the spring, our Easter weekend guide covers the 2027 holiday a week later.
Frequently asked questions
When is March Break 2027 in Ontario?
Ontario's school year calendar sets March Break 2027 from Monday, March 15 to Friday, March 19, with all schools closed. Most families travel over the surrounding weekends, from Saturday, March 13 to Sunday, March 21, so expect busier roads and hotels on those days.
Can you buy a day pass to the Great Wolf Lodge waterpark in Niagara?
Great Wolf Lodge's Niagara site describes waterpark access as included with an overnight stay, from opening on your arrival day until closing on your departure day. It does not advertise day passes. For a day of water without a hotel night, look at the Falls Avenue Resort's waterpark packages instead.
What is there to do in Niagara Falls in March with kids?
Indoor attractions carry the week: the Butterfly Conservatory, the Power Station and its tunnel, Journey Behind the Falls, Niagara Takes Flight, Bird Kingdom, Clifton Hill's arcades and the two waterpark resorts. Seasonal sites such as the boats and the Aero Car usually open later in spring.
Is Niagara Falls busy during March Break?
Yes, it is one of the busiest family weeks of the year, especially at the waterpark resorts and the indoor attractions. Book hotels early, arrive at popular attractions when they open, and plan transfers in advance so you are not waiting for a ride on a busy Saturday.
What vehicle do we need for a family of six with luggage?
A Standard SUV or Executive Black SUV, which takes up to six passengers and six bags. An Executive Sprinter seats up to 12 but carries carry-on bags only, so it suits day outings from the hotel rather than airport runs with suitcases.
Can you get from Buffalo airport to Great Wolf Lodge Niagara?
Yes. Buffalo Niagara International is about 43 km (27 mi) from Great Wolf Lodge, usually around 45 minutes before the border crossing. Every passenger, children included, needs valid documents to enter Canada. A pre-booked chauffeur meets you at the airport and crosses the bridge with you.
How much is a family transfer to Niagara Falls for March Break?
You see the full fixed fare for your route and vehicle in the booker before paying, with no surge on busy travel days. Price an SUV return trip, and compare it with a by-the-hour booking if you also want an attractions day.
