Before the towers went up along Fallsview Boulevard, there was a mill. The Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel began life as a flour mill in 1904 and was restored as an inn in 1977, keeping its stone walls while the casino resort and the high-rise hotels grew around it. Couples choose it for exactly that contrast: a short walk from the escarpment edge, but with a wood-burning fireplace in the historic dining room instead of a lobby the size of an airport. NiagaraFallsLimo.net drives a lot of anniversary weekends that start and end at its door, and they tend to follow a similar, pleasant rhythm.
How do Old Stone Inn guests reach wine country and the Falls without driving?
The Old Stone Inn at 6080 Fallsview Boulevard is about 3 km from Table Rock Centre, roughly 6 minutes, and about 23 km from the Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries, around 30 minutes. NiagaraFallsLimo.net books a chauffeured wine day or Falls evening online, with the fixed fare shown before payment.
From Toronto Pearson it is about 121 km (75 mi), usually 1 h 30 – 1 h 50 off-peak, which makes it an easy first stop after an overnight flight.
The inn, briefly
A few details shape how you plan the weekend:
- The building. The inn's listing on the owner's site describes 114 guestrooms in the restored mill and notes romantic getaway suites with oversized Jacuzzis (Niagara Falls Hotels).
- Food and drink in-house. The Old Stone Inn lists The Flour Mill restaurant, the 1904 Wine Bar + Kitchen, which it describes as featuring VQA Niagara tastings, and The Library Speakeasy on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 p.m. The wine bar's own listing shows it closed from October 18 to November 13, 2026, so check before you plan an evening around it.
- Dogs. Dog-friendly rooms are offered, which matters for the car: tell us at booking if a dog is travelling, and trained service animals are always welcome.
The inn sits on Fallsview Boulevard near Robinson Street, close to the Skylon Tower and Clifton Hill (about 1.6 km by road). That location means the first evening needs no car at all. The wineries are another matter.
A weekend in three movements
Friday: arrival and the Falls at night. Land at Pearson, meet the chauffeur at Door A or inside arrivals, and reach the inn by late afternoon. Walk to the escarpment edge for the illumination, which Niagara Parks runs every night of the year, or book dinner at the Skylon's Revolving Dining Room, 775 ft above the Falls and turning once an hour. Our journal post on Skylon Tower dinner by limousine covers that evening.
Saturday: wine country. This is the day the car earns its keep. Pickup at the inn around 10:30, three wineries, a long lunch at one of them, and back by late afternoon with time to rest before dinner. More on routes below.
Sunday: a slow morning and the drive home. Breakfast at The Flour Mill, a last walk to Table Rock, then the ride to the airport or onward to Toronto.

The Falls evening, done slowly
The inn is close enough to the Falls that couples are tempted to treat the evening casually. A little planning makes it memorable.
Start at dusk at the escarpment edge, then go down to Table Rock Centre, about 6 minutes by car or a longer walk downhill. Journey Behind the Falls is open year-round: you descend 125 ft into tunnels that end at portals and an observation deck at the foot of the Horseshoe Falls, and Niagara Parks runs a "Journey at Night" visit timed to the illumination. Afterwards, a table at Table Rock House Restaurant, which Niagara Parks bills as the closest you can dine to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, keeps you by the water.
The walk back up to Fallsview Boulevard after dinner is steep, and in heels or in winter it is unwelcome. A pickup booked for a set time, or a car kept "By the hour", solves that without fuss.
In winter
From November 14, 2026 to January 10, 2027, the Winter Festival of Lights is lit nightly from 5 p.m. to midnight along the Parkway, through Fallsview and out along Lundy's Lane. The inn's own site promotes seasonal winter events on its grounds. A slow evening drive past the riverside displays, ending back at the inn's fireplace, is one of the gentler ways to spend a cold Niagara night.
Niagara-on-the-Lake or the Bench: choosing the wine day
Both are within easy reach of Fallsview Boulevard. They feel quite different.
Niagara-on-the-Lake is closer, about 23 km to Peller Estates on John Street East, roughly 30 minutes. The wineries are close together on Niagara Stone Road, John Street and the Niagara Parkway, and Old Town's Queen Street is right there for an afternoon walk. It suits a first visit. One note for autumn 2026: The Winery Restaurant at Peller Estates is closed for renovation until November 13, so book lunch elsewhere if you are travelling before then. Our Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries page has the full map.
The Beamsville Bench and Twenty Valley are further west, about 39 km to Tawse in Vineland, usually 35 to 40 minutes on the QEW. The wineries sit higher on the escarpment, the roads are quieter and the tasting rooms are often smaller. VQA Ontario lists ten sub-appellations in the Niagara Peninsula, including Beamsville Bench, Twenty Mile Bench and Vinemount Ridge on the escarpment side. It suits couples who have done NOTL before. See our Twenty Valley and Beamsville Bench page and the post on the Beamsville Bench as a quieter tasting day.
A full day can combine the two: the Bench in the morning, NOTL after lunch, and the Parkway back along the river at golden hour.
Wine rules worth knowing before the day
Three things apply to every chauffeured wine day in Ontario, and we would rather you heard them from us:
- No drinking in the vehicle. Niagara Region's vehicle-for-hire by-law forbids drivers from permitting any alcohol to be consumed in the car, and Ontario law requires liquor in a vehicle to be unopened or packed away. Tastings happen at the wineries.
- Bottles you buy travel sealed. They go in the back and come out at the inn.
- The chauffeur never drinks. That is the point of the day.
If you want a bottle waiting as a gift, the booker can add a sealed bottle to take away, which many guests leave for the room.
Choosing the car for two
For an anniversary or a proposal weekend, the vehicle is part of the occasion.
- Mercedes-Benz E or S-Class: up to 2 passengers and 2 bags. The usual choice for the airport and the wine day.
- Mercedes-Maybach: up to 2 passengers, for the evening you want to arrive somewhere properly.
- Rolls-Royce: up to 2 passengers. Availability is confirmed at booking.
- Standard Sedan (Cadillac XTS or similar): up to 3 passengers and 2 large bags, a sensible pick for the airport with more luggage.
Many couples mix them: a sedan for Pearson, a Maybach for Saturday night. Browse the classes on our fleet page, and see our anniversary and proposal limo page for what can be arranged around a special moment, from timing the arrival at Table Rock to a photographer drop-off.
Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Option | Door-to-door time to NOTL wineries | Cost note | Waits between tastings | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private chauffeur | About 30 min, car stays with you | Fixed fare via booker, "By the hour" | Yes | Couples tasting at several wineries |
| Rideshare | About 30 min per leg, plus waits | App pricing, surge at times | No; new car each stop | One winery and back |
| Taxi | About 30 min per leg | Metered | No | A single lunch reservation |
| Shared wine shuttle | Set route and schedule | Per-seat ticket | Fixed stops | Solo travellers who like company |
| Driving yourself | About 30 min | Fuel and parking | You choose, but one of you cannot taste | Non-drinkers |
Honestly: for the Falls evening from the Old Stone Inn, you will walk, or a taxi will do. If your wine plan is a single lunch at one winery, a taxi there and back is reasonable. Where the private car is clearly better is the full tasting day: several wineries, purchases to carry, an unhurried lunch, and nobody choosing between tasting and driving. Our chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare guide explains more.

Who this suits
Couples are the heart of it: anniversaries, proposals, a quiet weekend away. Individuals travelling for work sometimes stay at the inn for its character and book a single evening at the wineries. Families with older children can use an SUV for a day at the Falls and a winery lunch, with the winery's grounds and shop to keep teenagers busy while the adults taste. Groups of friends booking several rooms fill a Sprinter for a celebratory wine day. More ideas are on our couples page, and our post on an anniversary weekend with limo, spa and wineries builds a fuller plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Old Stone Inn walking distance to the Falls?

Is the Old Stone Inn a historic building?
Yes. It was built as a flour mill in 1904 and restored as an inn in 1977, keeping its stone walls. The owner's listing describes 114 guestrooms, including romantic suites with oversized Jacuzzis, and the inn calls itself Niagara's historic boutique hotel.
How far is the Old Stone Inn from the Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries?

Can we drink wine in the car between wineries?
No. Niagara Region's by-law forbids drivers of vehicles for hire from permitting alcohol consumption in the vehicle, and Ontario law requires liquor in a car to be sealed or packed away. Tastings happen at the wineries; bottles you buy ride sealed in the back.
Which car is best for an anniversary at the Old Stone Inn?

How do we get from Toronto Pearson to the Old Stone Inn?
The drive is about 121 km (75 mi), usually 1 h 30 – 1 h 50 off-peak via the QEW, longer on summer Fridays. Book online with your flight number; the chauffeur tracks the flight and meets you at Door A or inside arrivals with a name board.
