The first question a dog owner asks about Niagara is not "where is the best view". It is "where can the dog sleep, and what happens at the border". Both have clear answers in 2026, and a pet-friendly Niagara Falls weekend works well if you plan around three facts: some hotels take dogs and many do not, most indoor attractions are for people, and the United States now has specific paperwork for dogs arriving by land.

We run the reservations desk at NiagaraFallsLimo.net, so the transport part of this guide comes from daily experience. The hotel, park and border rules come from the operators' own pages, linked below.

Can you bring a dog on a Niagara Falls trip?

Yes, with planning. Old Stone Inn on Fallsview Boulevard and every Vintage Hotels property in Niagara-on-the-Lake, about 22–24 km away, accept dogs in designated rooms. NiagaraFallsLimo.net welcomes trained service animals in every vehicle; for a pet dog, ask the desk before booking your fixed fare online.

The rest of this post fills in the detail: which rooms, which parks, which buses, and which documents the dog needs if you plan to see the American Falls from Goat Island as well as the Horseshoe Falls from Table Rock.

Our cars and your dog: what we can promise

Trained service animals are welcome in every vehicle class we operate, from the Standard Sedan to the Executive Sprinter. That is a firm commitment.

A pet dog that is not a service animal is a different question, and we would rather be straight about it than vague. Vehicle availability and the chauffeur assigned matter: a crated terrier in a Standard SUV with a cargo area is a different request from a 40 kg retriever on the back seat of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Before you pay, write to the desk through our contact page with the dog's size, whether it travels in a crate, and the trip you plan. We will tell you which class, if any, we can confirm for that booking. Please do not assume a pet can ride until you have that answer in writing.

For most dog owners the right vehicle is a Standard SUV (Suburban or Yukon XL, up to six passengers and six bags) or an Executive Black SUV (Escalade or Navigator, same capacity), because a crate can go where suitcases usually sit. Families travelling with both children and a dog should read our page for families, since child seats are also requested in the booker.

Dog-friendly hotels near the Falls and in wine country

Not every big Fallsview tower accepts pets, and policies change, so always check the hotel's own page before you book. Two that state their policy clearly:

  • Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel, 6080 Fallsview Boulevard. The hotel, built as a flour mill in 1904, advertises dog-friendly rooms in Niagara Falls and publishes a pet policy on its own website. From its door, the Falls Incline Railway and Table Rock are a short walk downhill.
  • Vintage Hotels in Niagara-on-the-Lake, which runs the Prince of Wales, Queen's Landing and Pillar and Post. Its FAQ says all its properties accept dogs in designated pet-friendly rooms, subject to availability, with a fee per dog and a maximum of two dogs per room. Only dogs are accepted, they must be leashed in public areas and crated when left alone in the room, and they are not allowed in restaurants, spas, lounges or health clubs (Vintage Hotels FAQ). Request a pet-friendly room when you reserve.

Our guide to Niagara-on-the-Lake inns explains the drop-off arrangements at the Old Town hotels. Niagara-on-the-Lake is about 22–24 km (14–15 mi) from Fallsview, usually 25–35 minutes by the Niagara Parkway, which makes it a calm base for a dog that dislikes crowds.

Where the dog can stretch its legs

On the Canadian side. The City of Niagara Falls runs two off-leash dog parks, open daily from dawn to dusk all year, with walking paths maintained in winter, according to the City of Niagara Falls. They are in residential parts of the city rather than by the Falls, so they suit a morning stop before or after the main sightseeing. Along the Niagara Parkway, keep the dog leashed and expect crowds at Table Rock in summer.

On the American side. Niagara Falls State Park publishes strict rules: pets must be caged or on a leash no longer than six feet, dogs must be up to date on rabies vaccination, and pets are not permitted inside attractions or buildings or on improved walkways and boardwalks (Niagara Falls State Park pet rules). In practice, that rules out walking a dog on the boardwalks that make the State Park famous, so plan US-side sightseeing for whoever is not holding the leash.

Attractions: plan as if they are people-only

Journey Behind the Falls, the boat tours, the Butterfly Conservatory and the casinos are indoor or crowded venues. Niagara Parks states that service animals and guide dogs are permitted at all its sites in areas open to the public; it does not say the same for pets. Treat every attraction as human-only unless the operator tells you otherwise, and build the day around it:

  1. Morning walk at an off-leash park or along a quiet stretch of the Parkway.
  2. One partner tours an attraction while the other stays outside with the dog, then swap.
  3. Afternoon back at the hotel with the dog crated or rested, as the hotel's rules require.
  4. Evening viewpoint for the illumination, leashed, from the railings in Queen Victoria Park.

A car on the booker's "By the hour" mode helps here, because the chauffeur can shuttle one half of the party while the other half walks.

Crossing the border with a dog

This is where dog owners get caught out. The rules differ by direction:

  • Into the United States. For dogs that have only been in dog-rabies-free or low-risk countries in the past six months, such as a dog that has only been in Canada and the US, the CDC requires the dog to be at least six months old, to carry a microchip readable by a universal scanner, and to travel with a CDC Dog Import Form receipt, which is emailed when you submit the form online (CDC dog entry rules). A young puppy cannot make the Rainbow Bridge day trip.
  • Into Canada. The Canada Border Services Agency says a personal dog must belong to the person importing it, that undeclared animals can be refused, and that you should carry the original copies of all required documents. Its page points to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for current requirements, which generally include a valid rabies vaccination certificate signed by a veterinarian (CBSA travelling with animals).

Declare the dog at every booth, every time. Our chauffeurs cross with you and wait through inspection, but the paperwork is the passenger's responsibility, for the dog as much as for the people. Read our pages on documents for entering Canada and on cross-border car service, and the sibling post on bringing pets across the Niagara border for more detail.

Trains and buses with a dog

If you are coming from Toronto by public transport, the rules are generous on GO and tight on WEGO:

  • GO Transit allows up to two leashed dogs per customer on weekdays between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm and from 6:30 pm to the end of service, and all day on weekends and holidays. In rush hour, dogs must be in a carrier that fits on your lap or under your seat (GO Transit dog rules).
  • WEGO allows non-certified small dogs only in an actual animal carrier, kept closed for the whole ride.

So a medium or large dog can ride the GO train to Niagara Falls GO on a Saturday, but cannot use WEGO once you arrive. The GO station on Bridge Street is about 4 km from the Falls, so you will need a car or a long walk for the last leg.

Plainly put: if your dog is large and your trip is long, driving your own car is often the simplest answer, because the dog already knows the back seat. For a small dog on a short stay, the GO train on a weekend plus a taxi from the station works well. A pre-booked SUV wins for airport arrivals from Toronto Pearson (about 120–125 km, usually 1 h 30 – 1 h 45 off-peak) or Buffalo Niagara (about 43 km or 27 mi, usually 45–55 minutes plus the bridge), and for families who need the crate, the child seats and the luggage in one vehicle. Our Buffalo Niagara airport transfer page covers the US arrival in detail.

Booking it with NiagaraFallsLimo.net in 3 steps

  1. Ask first, then enter the trip. Once the desk has confirmed a vehicle for your dog, put the pickup, drop-off, date, time and flight number into the online booker.
  2. Choose the SUV class. The Standard SUV and Executive Black SUV each show their fixed fare; pick the one you were advised.
  3. Finish and pay. Add passengers, bags and child seats, pay securely, and keep the email confirmation with your dog's documents.

Reserve your SUV

Which travellers this helps

Individuals travelling with a service animal can book any class without extra steps. Couples with a small dog suit the Niagara-on-the-Lake inns and a quiet itinerary. Families with a dog and children are the strongest case for a booked SUV, since the crate, car seats and cases all need space; our post on a multigenerational trip in one van covers the larger version. Groups with several dogs should split across hotels' two-dog limits and plan transport early.

Frequently asked questions

Is Niagara Falls dog-friendly?

Partly. Several hotels accept dogs, including Old Stone Inn and the Vintage Hotels properties in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the city runs two off-leash parks. Most attractions are indoor or crowded and should be treated as people-only. On the US side, Niagara Falls State Park bars pets from attractions, buildings and improved walkways.

Can my dog ride in a NiagaraFallsLimo.net car?

Trained service animals are welcome in every vehicle class. For a pet dog, contact the reservations desk before you pay with the dog's size and whether it travels in a crate, and wait for a confirmed answer. An SUV is usually the class we would suggest, because a crate fits in the cargo area.

What does my dog need to visit the American side of the Falls?

For a dog that has only been in Canada and the US, the CDC requires it to be at least six months old, microchipped with a chip a universal scanner can read, and covered by a CDC Dog Import Form receipt. Check the CDC page before travelling, because rules can change.

What does my dog need to come back into Canada?

Declare the dog at the booth. CBSA says the owner must be the importer and should carry original documents, and it refers travellers to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, whose rules generally require a valid rabies vaccination certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian. Check the current CFIA requirements before you go.

Can I take my dog on the GO train to Niagara Falls?

Yes. GO Transit allows up to two leashed dogs per customer off-peak on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays. During rush hour, dogs must be in a carrier that fits on your lap or under your seat. Niagara Falls GO is about 4 km from the Falls.

Are dogs allowed on WEGO buses?

Only small dogs in a proper animal carrier. Niagara Parks says non-certified small dogs and animals may ride WEGO if they stay in a rigid or soft-sided vented carrier for the whole trip. Certified service animals are a separate category and are welcome.

Which Niagara-on-the-Lake hotels allow dogs?

Vintage Hotels says all its properties, including the Prince of Wales, Queen's Landing and Pillar and Post, accept dogs in designated pet-friendly rooms, subject to availability, with a fee per dog and a two-dog limit. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurants or spas, and must be crated when left alone in the room.
