The person who books a seniors' outing from Woodstock or Ingersoll is usually not the person going. It is the activities coordinator at a retirement residence, the organizer of a church fellowship, or a grown child arranging a day for parents who have not been to the falls in thirty years. Their questions are practical: how long will everyone be sitting, where are the washrooms, what if someone uses a wheelchair, and where do we eat. This post answers them in that order.
How far is Woodstock from Niagara Falls by car?
Woodstock to Niagara Falls is about 153–156 km (95–97 mi) via Highway 403 and the QEW, usually just under 2 hours off-peak with NiagaraFallsLimo.net. From Ingersoll it is about 166 km (103 mi), roughly 2 h 05 – 2 h 15. Enter the pickup address in the online booker and the fixed fare appears before you pay.
Both towns sit right at the western start of Highway 403, which is what makes this trip simpler than it looks. From Ingersoll, the car runs a short stretch east on Highway 401 first; from Woodstock, the 403 begins almost on your doorstep.
Sitting time, and how to break it up
Two hours is about the limit many older travellers are comfortable sitting without a break, so plan one stop each way.
The highway rest plazas don't line up as neatly as you might hope. ONroute's location list shows its Woodstock plaza serving eastbound Highway 401 traffic and its Ingersoll plaza serving westbound traffic. Neither is on the 403, and the list shows no ONroute on the QEW. In practice, that means:
- An Ingersoll pickup heading east may pass the Woodstock eastbound plaza before turning onto the 403, depending on the exact routing. Ask the chauffeur at the start.
- A Woodstock pickup joins the 403 straight away, so the comfort stop will be at a regular service station or restaurant off the highway, often around Brantford or along the QEW.
- On arrival, Table Rock Centre at the falls has washrooms, food and a shop, so the first stop at the falls is also a rest stop.
The simplest instruction to give your chauffeur is, "We'd like a 15-minute comfort stop about halfway." They will choose the spot.
Wheelchairs, walkers and getting in and out
This is the part that most often decides whether a seniors' day goes well.
- Folding walkers and folding wheelchairs ride in the cargo area of an SUV or Sprinter. Mention how many when you book.
- Passengers who need to stay seated in a wheelchair should use the booker's wheelchair option, which assigns a suitable vehicle. Our accessible transportation page explains how it works; read it before you book if anyone has a power chair or special requirements.
- Step height. Sedans sit low; SUVs sit higher; Sprinters have a step. If a passenger finds one kind of vehicle easier, tell the desk.
- Time to board. Chauffeurs help with bags and mobility aids and never rush people into their seats. Build ten extra minutes into the pickup for a group.
For a group, the vehicle options are:
| Group size | Vehicle | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 3 | Standard Sedan (Cadillac XTS or similar) | Lowest seat; 2 large bags |
| Up to 6 | Standard SUV or Executive Black SUV | Room for folded walkers and chairs; 6 bags |
| Up to 12 | Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz) | Individual seats, standing headroom; carry-on only |
| Up to 16 | Stretch SUV Limousine | Availability confirmed at booking; low seating, less suited to limited mobility |
| Larger | Coach | On request |
Most residences and clubs end up in an Executive Sprinter for up to 12, or two vehicles if a few passengers need the wheelchair option. Our group transportation page covers bigger outings.

Lunch near Table Rock
Lunch is the anchor of a seniors' day at the falls, and the Table Rock area has the most convenient choices:
- Table Rock House Restaurant, run by Niagara Parks at 6650 Niagara Parkway. It bills itself as the closest you can dine to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, serves VQA wines with meals, and takes reservations through OpenTable. For a group, reserve well ahead.
- Table Rock Market, inside the same centre, for quicker meals.
- Queen Victoria Place Restaurant, a little north along the Parkway, with views of both the American and Horseshoe falls. It is seasonal, from April to October.
Getting there: Niagara Parks says paid parking for Table Rock Centre is across the street at the Falls Parking Lot, connected to the centre by the Bridge of Flowers overpass. With a chauffeur, the car brings the group as close as the road and traffic officers allow, then waits or circles while you go inside. For other dining options in the city, our Niagara Falls restaurants guide is the next stop.
Building the rest of the day around easy walking
After lunch, choose one or two gentle things rather than five:
- The railing at the Horseshoe Falls. A short, level walk from Table Rock, and the view everyone came for.
- Journey Behind the Falls, inside the Table Rock Welcome Centre, where an elevator takes visitors down to tunnels and an observation deck at the base of the falls. It is open year-round.
- A slow drive north along the Niagara Parkway, past the river gorge to the Floral Clock, where passengers can enjoy it from just beside the car. Book the day "By the hour" if you want the chauffeur to drive you between sights.
For a quieter afternoon among the flowers, the journal post on Queen Victoria Park gardens for older travellers has a full plan, and the post on Journey Behind the Falls, Table Rock drop-off and best hours covers that attraction in detail.
Home before supper
For an Oxford County group, a 3 p.m. departure from the falls puts you home around 5 p.m. That works well for residences with set mealtimes and for passengers who tire in the late afternoon. In late autumn it also means travelling most of the way in daylight. Ask the organizer to do a quick headcount at the meeting point before the car leaves the falls; with a group of twelve, it is easy for one person to still be in the gift shop. If anyone wants to see the falls lit at night, that's a different trip: the illumination starts as early as 4:30 p.m. in November and December, so a winter outing can include the lights and still be home by 8.
Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private chauffeur or Sprinter | About 2 h – 2 h 15 each way, door to door | Fixed fare via booker, shown before you pay | Walkers, folded chairs, day bags | Seniors' groups, mobility aids, no transfers |
| Rideshare | Similar driving time, one small car at a time | Surge pricing; long trips may be declined | Depends on the car | Not practical for a group |
| Taxi | Similar driving time | Metered or agreed flat rate | Usually fine | Local trips in Woodstock or Ingersoll |
| VIA Rail plus GO | Train to Toronto, then a GO connection to Niagara Falls; most of a day | Published fares | Train allowances | Independent travellers who enjoy rail |
| Coach tour | Operator's schedule | Operator's price | Small bags | Large groups who don't need door-to-door service |
| Driving yourselves | About 2 h each way plus parking | Fuel and parking | Unlimited | Families with a confident highway driver |
The honest verdict: rail is real but slow from here. VIA Rail's Woodstock station, at 100 Victoria Street South, is unstaffed, and its wheelchair lift needs 48 hours' notice, so it takes planning even before you reach Toronto and change trains. A large club of 40 might do well with a coach. For a group of up to a dozen with walkers, canes and a lunch booking, one Sprinter from the door of the residence is the easiest way to get everyone there and back without anyone being left on a platform.
Booking it with NiagaraFallsLimo.net in 3 steps

Who this trip suits
Groups are the heart of it: retirement residences, seniors' centres, church fellowships and service clubs. See our groups page. Couples celebrating an anniversary book a sedan for a quieter version of the same day. Families taking grandparents to the falls choose an SUV so everyone rides together. Individuals, perhaps a widowed parent joining a relative, can travel in a sedan door to door. If your outing starts further west, our London, Ontario to Niagara Falls route page and the London journal post cover that part of the 401.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Ingersoll from Niagara Falls?
About 166 km (103 mi) by road to the Fallsview area, via a short stretch of Highway 401, then Highway 403 and the QEW. It usually takes 2 h 05 – 2 h 15 off-peak. Allow longer on a Friday afternoon.
Can a passenger stay in their wheelchair for the trip?
Yes, using the booker's wheelchair option, which assigns a suitable vehicle. Describe the chair in the booking notes, especially if it is a power chair, and read our accessible transportation page before you book.
Where can a group have lunch near the falls?
Table Rock House Restaurant, run by Niagara Parks at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls, takes reservations through OpenTable; book ahead for a group. Table Rock Market in the same centre serves quicker meals, and Queen Victoria Place Restaurant opens seasonally from April to October.
Is there a rest stop on the way?
ONroute lists its Woodstock plaza for eastbound Highway 401 traffic and its Ingersoll plaza for westbound traffic, with none on the 403 or the QEW. Ask your chauffeur for a mid-trip comfort stop and they will plan one at a service station or restaurant along the route.
How many seniors fit in one vehicle?
The Executive Sprinter seats up to 12 with carry-on bags only, which suits a day trip. Folded walkers and wheelchairs fit in SUVs and Sprinters; tell the desk how many. For passengers who need to stay in a wheelchair, book the wheelchair option, which may mean a second vehicle.
What time should we leave Niagara Falls to be home for supper?
A departure around 3 p.m. usually has an Oxford County group home by about 5 p.m. on a weekday. Leave earlier on a Friday, when the QEW and Hamilton traffic builds sooner.
Do we need passports?
Not for a day on the Canadian side; this trip never crosses the border. If you add the American side, every passenger needs their own valid documents, and the chauffeur crosses the bridge with the group. Our page on documents for entering the USA lists what is accepted. For a seniors' day we usually suggest staying on the Canadian side: the views of both falls are excellent from Table Rock and Queen Victoria Park, and there is no queue at a bridge to sit through.
