Buffalo FBO Arrivals for Niagara Falls Executives: Planning the Ground Leg

The flight is the easy part. The 40-odd minutes between the Buffalo ramp and a Niagara boardroom involve a bridge, a second customs booth and a car that has to be waiting. Here is how flight departments plan it.

A Buffalo private jet to Niagara Falls itinerary usually looks simple on the trip sheet: wheels down at Buffalo Niagara International, car to the hotel, done. In practice the ground leg crosses an international border, so there are two separate government checks between the aircraft door and the meeting room. The first happens on the ramp, before anyone touches a car. The second happens on a bridge over the Niagara River.

NiagaraFallsLimo.net plans that leg for corporate travellers, and the planning is mostly about sequence: who clears where, which bridge, and how long the chauffeur waits without anyone noticing.

How long is the drive from a Buffalo FBO to Niagara Falls, Ontario?

From Signature Buffalo Niagara, the business-aviation terminal at Buffalo Niagara International (BUF), Fallsview in Niagara Falls, Ontario is about 42–55 km (26–34 mi) by road, usually 45–55 minutes before any border queue. NiagaraFallsLimo.net quotes the fixed fare in its online booker, and the chauffeur crosses the bridge with you.

That spread of distances is the bridge choice, not traffic. Our route checks from the FBO at 50 North Airport Drive in Cheektowaga give roughly:

Destination and bridgeDistanceTypical drive, no border queue
Fallsview via Rainbow Bridgeabout 44 km (27 mi)45–50 min
Fallsview via Peace Bridge and the QEWabout 50 km (31 mi)45–50 min
Fallsview via Lewiston-Queenston Bridgeabout 55 km (34 mi)50–55 min
Niagara-on-the-Lake Old Town via Lewiston-Queenstonabout 56 km (35 mi)55–60 min
Downtown Niagara Falls, New York (no crossing)about 38 km (24 mi)35–40 min

Add whatever the inspection queue is that day. Nobody can promise that number, and we never do.

Who runs the business-aviation side at BUF now

The fixed-base operator at Buffalo is Signature Buffalo Niagara, at 50 N Airport Drive, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It lists on-site customs and immigration, a heated overnight hangar and limousine service among its facilities. If an older trip sheet still says Prior Aviation or TAC Air, update it; the FBO now operates under the Signature name.

For a flight arriving from outside the United States, the US formalities happen at the FBO. Under CBP's general aviation processing rules, the pilot or charter operator transmits the passenger manifest through eAPIS, not the passengers. Your executives simply carry their passports and clear with the officer on arrival. Only once that is done do they walk to the car.

A domestic US flight into Buffalo has no customs step at the FBO. The only border your guests meet is the bridge into Canada.

The ramp hand-off for a Buffalo private jet to Niagara Falls

A smooth pickup at a business-aviation terminal is mostly invisible. This is how ours usually runs:

  1. Booking. The flight department or executive assistant enters the FBO as the pickup point, the tail number or flight details, the passenger count and the bag count. Meet & greet with a name board is a booker option if your principal prefers to be met inside the lounge.
  2. Tracking. Flight tracking follows the aircraft. If the jet leaves Teterboro forty minutes late, the pickup moves with it.
  3. Positioning. The chauffeur arrives before the scheduled landing and follows whatever access procedure the FBO sets for that day. Whether a car can go airside is the FBO's decision, not ours; we work to their instruction.
  4. Clearance. On an international arrival, nobody moves until CBP finishes.
  5. Loading. Bags go straight into the vehicle. Golf bags, sample cases and presentation kits are worth listing in the booking so the right class is sent.
  6. Departure. The chauffeur confirms the destination and the bridge, and the car pulls away.

Our private jet and FBO transfer service covers the same routine at Toronto Pearson, Hamilton and Niagara District as well as Buffalo.

Choosing the bridge into Canada

Three crossings are realistic from Buffalo, and each suits a different destination.

Rainbow Bridge. The shortest line to Fallsview and Clifton Hill hotels. Cars and limousines are allowed; commercial trucks are not. It lands you minutes from the Fallsview hotel strip, which is why it is the default for meetings at the convention centre or a Fallsview tower.

Peace Bridge. Fort Erie to Buffalo, then north on the QEW. It is usually our pick when the I-190 north of Buffalo is congested, and its Canada-bound NEXUS lanes run around the clock. The Peace Bridge has gone cashless, so the toll is card or E-ZPass only.

Lewiston-Queenston Bridge. The natural route to Niagara-on-the-Lake and the wineries, and the bridge commercial trucks use. Its Canada-bound NEXUS lane runs daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Whirlpool Rapids Bridge is NEXUS-only, and that means every single person in the car, chauffeur included, must hold a NEXUS card. For a mixed group it is simply off the table.

Documents for the second checkpoint

Clearing CBP at the FBO does not cover Canada. At the bridge, a Canada Border Services Agency officer will look at each passenger, so every passenger needs their own valid documents in hand, not in the checked bags.

  • Canadian citizens: a valid Canadian passport is what CBSA advises carrying.
  • US citizens: CBSA recommends a valid passport; a NEXUS card, enhanced driver's licence or proof of citizenship are also described on its documents page.
  • Other nationals: visa-exempt travellers generally do not need an eTA when entering Canada by car, because the eTA is tied to boarding a flight to Canada. A traveller whose nationality requires a Canadian visitor visa needs it at the bridge as well.

Our guide to documents for entering Canada goes through the edge cases, including permanent residents and travelling minors. The chauffeur will tell the officer who is in the car and why; the officer then speaks to each passenger.

What usually goes wrong, and how to avoid it

Most of the friction we see on these arrivals is not the border itself. It is small planning gaps:

  • A passport packed in the hold. At the FBO it is fine. At the bridge, it means unloading the trunk in an inspection lane. Ask travellers to keep passports in a jacket pocket.
  • A late headcount change. An extra analyst joins the trip and now six people and their bags are heading for a sedan. Update the booking, or book the Standard SUV from the start.
  • The wrong bridge for the destination. Niagara-on-the-Lake via the Rainbow Bridge means driving back through Niagara Falls traffic. Tell us the end address and we route accordingly.
  • Assuming rideshare will cross. Niagara Falls International Airport's own ground transportation page warns that rideshare services may not cross the border, and the same caution applies to app rides from Buffalo. For an executive on a schedule, an app driver who stops at the bridge is not a plan.

Which car suits a Buffalo private jet to Niagara Falls trip

Business-aviation guests tend to travel lighter than airline passengers, but not always. These classes come up most on Buffalo FBO runs:

  • Mercedes-Benz E / S-Class: up to 2 passengers and 2 bags. The one-principal option.
  • Executive Black SUV (Escalade / Navigator): up to 6 passengers and 6 bags. The default for a CEO with an aide and luggage.
  • Executive Jet Sprinter: up to 6 passengers with 2 bags, with a cabin you can stand in.
  • Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz): up to 12 passengers with carry-on only, for a full board or a client team.
  • Mercedes-Maybach or Rolls-Royce: up to 2 passengers, availability confirmed at booking.

All models are "or similar" and confirmed when you book. Our corporate travel page explains accounts and invoicing for companies that fly in regularly.

The honest verdict: if your guests are staying in Buffalo or downtown Niagara Falls, New York, a taxi or rideshare from the main terminal can be perfectly fine. Once the destination is in Canada, the pre-booked car wins on predictability. The vehicle is known, the chauffeur crosses these bridges routinely and does not decline the trip at the border. The fare is fixed before anyone takes off. For the wider comparison beyond this route, read our chauffeur vs taxi vs rideshare guide.

Booking it with NiagaraFallsLimo.net in 3 steps

  1. Enter the route. Pickup is Signature Buffalo Niagara; drop-off is the hotel, office or winery in Ontario. Add the date, planned landing time and the tail number or flight details.
  2. Pick the class. Each vehicle shows its fixed all-in fare for that exact trip before you pay.
  3. Add the details. Passenger names and count, bags, meet & greet, child seats if a family is aboard, then pay securely. Confirmation arrives by email.

For a return to the FBO, book it as a return trip so the outbound and inbound legs sit on one confirmation. Our Buffalo airport transfer page covers commercial arrivals at the main terminal too.

Who this plan suits

Individuals: a solo executive gets a sedan or an E-Class, and arrives without having negotiated anything at the border. Couples: a leisure jet arrival for a Niagara-on-the-Lake weekend works best via the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge straight to the inn. Families: child, toddler and booster seats are booker options, and the SUV takes strollers. Groups: a board or client team of up to 12 fits an Executive Sprinter, with luggage sent separately if needed.

For a deeper look at the border side, see our cross-border car service. Two related journal pieces cover the alternatives: Pearson FBO arrivals and the chauffeur hand-off and Hamilton airport private aviation to wine country. If some of your team are flying commercial into BUF, read Buffalo Niagara International to Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Frequently asked questions

Which FBO do private jets use at Buffalo Niagara International?

Signature Buffalo Niagara, at 50 N Airport Drive in Cheektowaga, New York. It is open 24 hours a day and lists on-site customs and immigration, which matters for flights arriving from outside the United States. Older references to Prior Aviation or TAC Air at Buffalo describe the same facility before it took the Signature name.

Can a car meet the aircraft on the ramp at Buffalo?

That is decided by the FBO on the day, based on its own security procedures. NiagaraFallsLimo.net chauffeurs follow the FBO's instructions. Many arrivals are met at the lounge door with a name board, which is a meet & greet option in our booker.

Do passengers clear customs twice on a Buffalo-to-Niagara trip?

On an international flight, yes. CBP processes the arrival at the Buffalo FBO, and then CBSA inspects everyone again at the bridge into Canada. On a domestic US flight there is only the Canadian check at the bridge.

Which bridge is fastest from Buffalo to Niagara Falls, Ontario?

There is no permanent answer. The Rainbow Bridge is the shortest route to Fallsview, the Peace Bridge avoids I-190 congestion north of Buffalo, and Lewiston-Queenston suits Niagara-on-the-Lake. The chauffeur checks live wait times before leaving the FBO and picks the crossing then.

How much is a private car from the Buffalo FBO to Niagara Falls?

Enter the FBO and your Ontario address in the online booker, and it displays a fixed all-in fare for each vehicle class before any payment. The fare is all-in, and there is no meter running while you wait in an inspection lane.

Can we use NEXUS lanes in the car?

Only if every person in the vehicle, including the chauffeur, holds a NEXUS card. If even one passenger does not, the car uses the regular lanes. The Whirlpool Rapids Bridge accepts NEXUS vehicles only, so it is rarely an option for a hired car.

What if the jet is diverted or arrives early?

Flight tracking follows the aircraft. If it lands early, the chauffeur is already positioned ahead of the scheduled time. If weather diverts the flight to another airport, call the 24/7 reservations desk and the pickup is re-planned around the new arrival point.
