Search for things to do in Niagara Falls and you get lists of forty attractions, arranged as if you had a week. Most visitors have an afternoon, or a day at most. The useful question is not "what is there?" but "what is worth doing in the hours I actually have, in what order, and how long does it take to get from one to the next?"
That is the question our chauffeurs answer every day, so this is the shortlist NiagaraFallsLimo.net drivers hand to guests, built around time. Drive times are off-peak road times between stops from our own routing, and they matter: the attractions north of the Falls are spread along about 15 km of the Niagara Parkway.
What are the best things to do in Niagara Falls if you only have a few hours?
With three hours, see the Horseshoe Falls from Table Rock, go down through Journey Behind the Falls or ride Niagara City Cruises in season, and walk to the American Falls view. With six, add the Power Station tunnel and the Whirlpool Aero Car, 5 km away. NiagaraFallsLimo.net books cars by the hour, fixed fare shown in its online booker.
How to read the shortlists
Three rules shape every list below:
- Start at the water. The Falls are the reason you came; see them first, while you are fresh and before the midday crowds.
- Move north, not back and forth. The gorge attractions line up along the Parkway downstream. Doubling back past Clifton Hill in summer traffic wastes time.
- One ticket per hour, at most. Each paid attraction takes 45 minutes to an hour once you include queues, lockers and the walk in and out.
Seasons matter too. Journey Behind the Falls, the Niagara Parks Power Station, the Butterfly Conservatory, Niagara Takes Flight and the Floral Showhouse are open year-round. Niagara City Cruises, the Whirlpool Aero Car and the White Water Walk are seasonal, from April to November.
The 3-hour shortlist: the Falls up close
For a stopover, a business visitor with an afternoon, or a first look before a longer stay.
- Table Rock (20 minutes). The brink of the Horseshoe Falls, beside the railing. Free.
- Journey Behind the Falls (45–60 minutes). A 125-ft descent to tunnels and an observation deck at the foot of the Horseshoe Falls, on the first floor of the Table Rock Welcome Centre. Year-round.
- Niagara Takes Flight or a boat (40–60 minutes). On the second floor of the same building, Niagara Parks' flying theatre takes about 35 minutes start to finish. In season, swap it for Niagara City Cruises, whose dock is about 2 km downstream, near the foot of Clifton Hill.
- The river walk to the American Falls view (30–40 minutes). North along Queen Victoria Park. Your car meets you at the far end, saving the walk back.
Driving in this plan: under 5 km. You could do it on foot and with the Falls Incline Railway if you are staying in Fallsview; a car mainly saves you the uphill return.
Book a three-hour car at the Falls
The 6-hour shortlist: the Falls and the gorge
For a day visitor who arrives mid-morning, or a hotel guest with a free day.
- Table Rock and Journey Behind the Falls (1 h 15). As above.
- Niagara Parks Power Station and The Tunnel (1 h). A short way south of Table Rock on the Parkway, between Table Rock and the Floral Showhouse. A glass elevator drops 180 ft to a 2,200-ft tunnel, dug in 1901, that ends at a platform at river level with views of both falls. Niagara Parks says the tunnel is included with admission and is fully accessible. See our Power Station page.
- Lunch (1 h). Table Rock House Restaurant at the brink, or a Clifton Hill option if the children vote.
- White Water Walk (45 minutes). About 3.5 km north of Table Rock, roughly 6 minutes by car. An elevator descends 70 m to a boardwalk beside the Whirlpool Rapids. April to November.
- Whirlpool Aero Car (40 minutes). About 2 km further north. The antique cable car has crossed the Whirlpool since 1916. April to November.
- Butterfly Conservatory (45 minutes). A few kilometres further north, inside the free Botanical Gardens, year-round.
Driving: about 15 km in total, with roughly 25 minutes in the car between stops. By WEGO it is possible, with waits at each stop; by car, the chauffeur is outside each exit.
The full-day shortlist: Falls, gorge, Queenston and Niagara-on-the-Lake
For visitors with nine or ten hours who want the region rather than one viewpoint.
| Time | Stop | Drive from previous stop |
|---|---|---|
| 9:00 | Table Rock, then Journey Behind the Falls | Start |
| 10:30 | Niagara City Cruises in season, or the Power Station tunnel | About 2 km, under 10 minutes |
| 12:00 | Lunch near the Falls | Short hop |
| 13:15 | Whirlpool Aero Car or White Water Walk | About 5 km, about 10 minutes |
| 14:15 | Niagara Glen lookout or a short trail | About 3 km, 5 minutes |
| 15:00 | Floral Clock | About 5 km, 10–15 minutes |
| 15:30 | Queenston Heights and Brock's Monument | About 4 km, 10–15 minutes |
| 16:15 | Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake, Queen Street | About 12 km, 15–20 minutes |
| 18:30 | Dinner in Niagara-on-the-Lake | Walk |
| 20:30 | Back to Fallsview for the illumination | About 23 km, about 30 minutes |
That is roughly 60 km of driving in a day with eight stops, which is exactly the sort of day a waiting car makes easy. If wine tastings replace part of the afternoon, see our Niagara Falls private tour for how a chauffeur builds them in.
The evening add-on: two hours after dark
If your hotel is in Fallsview, add an evening to any of the lists:
- Dinner at the top of the Skylon Tower. Skylon says its Revolving Dining Room sits 775 ft above the Falls and turns once an hour; the observation deck is included with a meal. See our Skylon Tower page.
- The illumination from Queen Victoria Park, lit every night of the year.
- Clifton Hill, for families: the Niagara SkyWheel rides take about 8–12 minutes in climate-controlled gondolas, and Clifton Hill sells a combined Fun Pass for its attractions.
- The Power Station at night, when its "Currents" sound-and-light show runs.
Fun and unusual things to do in Niagara Falls
For repeat visitors, or when the main list feels familiar:
- Niagara Helicopters, flights daily from 9 am until sunset, weather permitting.
- WildPlay's Zipline to the Falls, 670 m from Grand View Marketplace towards the base of the Horseshoe Falls; riders must be over age seven.
- Bird Kingdom, a large indoor aviary five minutes' walk from the Falls, open all year.
- Lock 3 of the Welland Canal in St. Catharines, about 18 km away, to watch freighters rise and drop through the lock.
- Maid of the Mist from the American side, if your party has documents for the border; it ran April 24 to November 8 in 2026.
Our main things to do in Niagara Falls guide covers each attraction in depth.
Chauffeur vs rideshare vs taxi for this trip
| Way to go | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Walking plus Falls Incline Railway | Fine for the 3-hour list from Fallsview | Incline fare; walking free | None | Hotel guests doing the Falls only |
| WEGO visitor bus | Workable for the 6-hour list, with waits at stops | Adult 24 h $16 (as of 2026) | Day bags | Budget visitors with time |
| Rideshare | Quick between stops; a new match each time | App price per ride; surge at busy times | One car's worth | Two or three hops in a day |
| Taxi | Rank or dispatch wait each time | Metered | Sedan or minivan | A single long hop, such as to Niagara-on-the-Lake |
| Driving yourself | Flexible | Fuel plus paid parking at most stops | Own trunk | Visitors who already have a car |
| Chauffeur by the hour (NiagaraFallsLimo.net) | The car waits outside each exit | Fixed fare via booker, shown before you pay | By vehicle class | 6-hour and full-day lists, families, groups |
Verdict. For the 3-hour list, you do not need a car if you are staying in Fallsview: walk, use the Incline, and grab a taxi for the hill if your legs give out. For the 6-hour list on a budget, the WEGO bus works. For the full day with Queenston and Niagara-on-the-Lake, eight stops over 60 km, a car held by the hour saves an hour or more of waiting and turns pay-and-display parking into somebody else's problem. Our blog on hourly vs point-to-point bookings helps you choose.
Booking it with NiagaraFallsLimo.net in 3 steps
- Pick "By the hour" in the online booker, set your hotel as the pickup, choose the start time and the number of hours from the shortlist you like, and list the stops in the notes.
- Choose the vehicle. Couples often take an E-Class; families an SUV for up to 6; groups an Executive Sprinter for up to 12. Each class shows the fixed fare for your hours.
- Add and confirm. Child seats, meet and greet if you are coming from an airport first, then pay securely; confirmation comes by email.
Reserve your chauffeur for the day
Who each list suits
Individuals on a stopover do best with the 3-hour list. Couples tend to choose the 6-hour list plus the evening add-on with dinner and the illumination. Families with young children should pick the 6-hour list and cut one attraction; four stops is plenty. Groups of eight or more get the most from the full day in a single Sprinter, because keeping everyone together across eight stops is the hard part; see our page for groups.
For the gorge stops in more detail, read the White Water Walk and Whirlpool Aero Car with a chauffeur, and for the first stop of every list, planning Journey Behind the Falls.
Frequently asked questions
What is the number one thing to do in Niagara Falls?
Stand at Table Rock beside the brink of the Horseshoe Falls. It is free and takes twenty minutes. If you add one paid experience, make it Journey Behind the Falls year-round, or Niagara City Cruises from April to November, so you see the water from below as well as above.
What can you do in Niagara Falls in one day?
The Falls, Journey Behind the Falls or a boat, the Power Station tunnel, the gorge attractions such as the Whirlpool Aero Car, the Floral Clock and Queenston, with dinner in Niagara-on-the-Lake and the illumination at night. That is about 60 km of driving, so a car is helpful.
What are the best things to do in Niagara Falls, Canada, in winter?
Journey Behind the Falls, the Niagara Parks Power Station and its tunnel, the Butterfly Conservatory, Niagara Takes Flight, and the Floral Showhouse are open year-round. From November 14, 2026 to January 10, 2027, the free Winter Festival of Lights adds displays and fireworks.
How far apart are the attractions in Niagara Falls?
The main Falls attractions around Table Rock are within walking distance of each other. The gorge attractions run north along the Niagara Parkway: the White Water Walk is about 3.5 km from Table Rock and the Whirlpool Aero Car about 5 km. The Floral Clock is about 13 km away and Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake about 23 km.
What are fun things to do in Niagara Falls with kids?
The boats, Journey Behind the Falls, the Butterfly Conservatory, Bird Kingdom, the SkyWheel and the arcades on Clifton Hill all work well for children. Mix one wet attraction with one indoor one, and keep the day to four stops so nobody is exhausted by mid-afternoon.
Is Clifton Hill worth visiting?
For families with children and for an evening of games, yes; the SkyWheel and the Fun Pass attractions are fun for an hour or two. Visitors who came for nature can walk through quickly and spend their time on the gorge and the Parkway instead.
Do I need tickets in advance for Niagara Falls attractions?
For the busiest summer days, buying ahead is sensible, especially for timed boat tickets with Niagara City Cruises. Niagara Parks also sells passes that bundle several attractions. Outside peak weekends there is usually more choice of times, but check availability on the operator's site the day before.
